The NFL offseason is upon us. While others (myself included) debate on 2025 way-too-early fantasy football rankings, 2025 NFL free agency and NFL team needs through the draft and veteran markets, let’s take a look ahead to the 2025 NFL draft and what it has to offer in terms of dynasty fantasy football talent.
Throughout the draft season, I’ll be delivering prospect overviews at every fantasy position to keep tabs on the top dynasty prospects. For those looking to dig deeper, check out the highly-coveted FantasyPros Dynasty Draft Kit and the official 2025 NFL Draft Guide.

Top Dynasty 2025 Rookie Running Backs
Let’s dig into the top incoming rookie running backs for dynasty fantasy football leagues in 2025 to get familiar with the top names we will be overly obsessing about over the next three months.
This is hardly the final locked-and-loaded list (more names will be added as we trudge along) but more of an introduction to the uber-talented 2025 running back class for those (like myself) who have been buried in the NFL since July.
Note that I will be referring to a player’s dominator rating at length in this piece.
For those who are new or unfamiliar with the terminology, dominator rating considers both rushing and receiving yards for the running back position. It’s critical to target running backs with upside in the passing game, especially in our PPR-happy fantasy leagues.
In layman’s terms, dominator rating is just a way of capturing how productive a player was in their offense in a way to even the playing field when comparing running back prospects. If you are interested in comparing this year’s class to prospects from the last two seasons, check out the table at the bottom featuring 2021-2024 class dominator ratings. The 2025 ratings will be added later in the offseason.
Ashton Jeanty (RB – Boise State)
Age: 21 | Height/Weight: 5-foot-9/215 pounds | Class: Junior | Career Dominator Rating: 32% | 2024 Dominator Rating: 43%
Freshman Year (2022) – Immediate Impact
- Played as a true freshman, quickly earning a role in the Broncos’ offense.
- Logged 196 snaps, carrying the ball 156 times for 821 yards — 5.3 yards per attempt (YPA) — and seven touchdowns while adding to the passing game.
Sophomore Year (2023) – Dual-Threat Emergence
- Took on a larger workload with 217 carries, rushing for 1,344 yards (6.2 YPA) and 14 touchdowns.
- Showcased major growth in the passing game, finishing second on the team in receiving yards, making him one of the most versatile backs in the country.
Junior Year (2024) – Dominant Heisman Contender
- Breakout season, posting a 43% dominator rating while rushing for an eye-popping 2,595 yards (6.9 YPA) and 29 touchdowns.
- Led Boise State’s offense, carrying the ball 375 times over 416 snaps, a true workhorse back.
- His dominant campaign earned him runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, cementing his place as one of the top backs in college football.
Career Summary
- Over three seasons, Jeanty rushed for 4,760 yards on 748 carries (6.4 YPA) with 50 touchdowns.
- Just 10 fumbles on 748 carries (1.3% rate)
- Displayed steady year-over-year growth, particularly excelling as a receiver in his second season.
- His dominance as a junior, both statistically and in awards recognition, puts him in an elite company heading into the 2025 NFL Draft.
- The only knock is that he played in the Mountain West, so he was not facing top-tier defenses weekly.
- According to Football Insights, Jeanty finished his collegiate career with the highest missed tackle forced per touch rate (39%).
- Jeanty’s best season dominator rating (43%) is in the 94th percentile among running backs drafted since 2021. His career dominator rating ranks inside the top five. His yards per play (3.4) mark is also elite.
- He played under former NFL head coach Dirk Koetter in his last year at Boise State. Koetter has coaching ties to Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn.
- My NFL player comp for Jeanty is DeAngelo Williams.
Kaleb Johnson (RB – Iowa)
Age at Draft: 21 | Height/Weight: 6-feet/225 pounds | Career Dominator Rating: 33% | 2024 Dominator Rating: 48%
Freshman Year (2022) – Immediate Impact
- Led the team in rushing as a true freshman, carrying the ball 151 times for 777 yards (5.1 YPA) and six touchdowns.
- Limited impact as a receiver (four catches for 27 yards), primarily used as a downhill runner/hammer.
Sophomore Year (2023) – Injury-Plagued Season
- Missed three games due to an ankle injury, limiting his production.
- Still managed 117 carries for 463 yards (4.0 YPA) and three touchdowns on 126 snaps.
- Slight improvement in the passing game (three catches for 25 yards) but remained mostly a between-the-tackles runner.
Junior Year (2024) – Breakout Dominance
- One of the most dominant running backs in college football, posting a 48% dominator rating (96th percentile).
- Rushed for a career-high 1,535 yards (6.4 YPA) and 21 touchdowns on 240 carries.
- Suspended for the first half of the season opener but still rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the second half, proving his elite talent.
- Expanded his receiving role, catching 22 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns, adding another dimension to his game.
- Showed elite efficiency and durability, logging 262 snaps as the focal point of Iowa’s offense.
Career Summary
- 2,775 rushing yards on 508 carries (5.5 YPA) with 30 touchdowns over three seasons.
- Twenty-nine receptions for 242 yards — 8.3 yards per reception (YPR) — and two touchdowns, with his receiving role peaking in 2024.
- Career 33% dominator rating, proving he was a workhorse-caliber back. Second-highest dominator rating among running backs since 2021.
- Averaged 3.35 yards per play (elite mark), highlighted by his 3.83 yards per play during his junior season (highest among the top-five consensus rookie backs).
- Overcame adversity, bouncing back from injuries and suspension to deliver an elite final season.
- The Iowa running back is a physical specimen. Before his sophomore season, Iowa football strength coach Raimond Braithwaite said via the Athletic, “He was touched by God, so to speak, from a physical standpoint, and he looks like a Greek god. A statue.”
- Johnson patterns his game after Derrick Henry, and it sticks out when you watch him on tape. You can’t compare any running back on planet Earth to King Henry (alien status) but the running style is so similar.
- Johnson’s breakout season in 2024 was under offensive coordinator Tim Lester. Lester spent the 2023 season as a senior analyst for the Green Bay Packers. He is a former college football team-mate of Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.
“I watch him almost every day. . . . I’ll be writing notes down on what he’s doing.” ????️ @Kj_Superman2 https://t.co/O0Q3W0A6pI

Quinshon Judkins (RB Ohio State)
Age at Draft: 21 | Height/Weight: 6-feet/219 pounds | Career Dominator Rating: 25% | 2024 Dominator Rating: 20%
Freshman Year (2022) – Breakout Star & SEC Freshman of the Year
- Led Ole Miss in rushing as an 18-year-old true freshman, earning SEC Freshman of the Year honors.
- Won the starting running back job over TCU transfer Zach Evans, a future NFL sixth-round pick, despite having two fewer years of experience.
- Rushed for 1,567 yards on 275 carries (5.7 YPA) and 16 touchdowns, dominating SEC competition.
- Had a modest role as a receiver, recording 15 receptions for 132 yards and one touchdown.
- His 28% dominator rating marked the most dominant season of his career.
Sophomore Year (2023) – Consistent Production
- Followed up with another strong season for the Rebels, rushing for 1,158 yards on 241 carries (4.8 YPA) and 15 touchdowns.
- Slight increase in his receiving involvement, catching 22 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
- Posted a 26% dominator rating, proving his workhorse ability for the second straight year.
- Established himself as one of the top running backs in the country heading into the transfer portal.
Junior Year (2024) – National Champion with Ohio State
- Transferred to Ohio State, stepping into a loaded backfield alongside incumbent TreVeyon Henderson.
- Still led the team in rushing, posting 1,060 yards on 193 carries (5.5 YPA) with 14 touchdowns
- Split touches with Henderson, leading to a lower 20% dominator rating but proving his adaptability in a committee with fresh legs.
- Helped Ohio State win a National Championship, solidifying his legacy as a high-impact rusher at two major programs.
- In the National Championship against Notre Dame, Judkins scored three touchdowns and posted over 120 yards from scrimmage.
Career Summary
- Recorded 3,786 rushing yards on 739 carries (5.1 YPA) with 45 touchdowns and three fumbles over three seasons.
- Fifty-nine receptions for 442 yards (7.5 YPR) and five receiving scores, steadily improving as a pass-catcher.
- Career-high 28% dominator rating as a freshman, followed by 26% as a sophomore and 20% at Ohio State.
- National Champion (2024) and SEC Freshman of the Year (2022).
- Excelled as both a bell-cow back (Ole Miss) and in a committee (Ohio State), proving versatility and durability.
- He finished his three-year career at OSU/Ole Miss with 4,227 yards from scrimmage and 50 touchdowns.
- Judkins doesn’t have long breakaway speed that Henderson has, but he more than makes up for it with his vision, burst to the hole and a strong finish to his carries.
- Player comps for Judkins: Stevan Ridley, Cam Akers, Isiah Pacheco
Omarion Hampton (RB – North Carolina)
Age: 22 | Height/Weight: 6-foot-1/220 pounds| Class: Junior | Career Dominator Rating: 24% | 2024 Dominator Rating: 38%
Freshman Year (2022) – Early Contributor
- Played immediately as a true freshman, earning 89 carries for 403 yards (4.5 YPA) and seven touchdowns despite a limited role.
- Showed promise with a high touchdown rate, but his workload was capped with just 105 snaps as he split work with Elijah Green. Quarterback Drake Maye led the team in rushing yards in his freshman season.
- Minimal impact in the passing game.
Sophomore Year (2023) – Breakout Season
- Exploded in his second year, taking over the Tar Heels’ backfield with 254 carries for 1,500 yards (5.9 YPA) and 15 touchdowns.
- Became a true workhorse, logging 305 snaps, and handling over 72% of the team’s running back carries.
- Made strides as a receiver, catching 29 out of 32 targets for 222 yards and a touchdown, showcasing all-purpose ability.
Junior Year (2024) – Dominant Final Season
- Took his game to an elite level, posting a 38% dominator rating while rushing for 1,660 yards (5.9 YPA) and 15 touchdowns.
- Showed improved efficiency and durability, handling 281 carries on 309 snaps.
- Further expanded his receiving role, recording 43 receptions for 373 yards and two touchdowns, proving he can be a three-down weapon.
- Limited fumbling issues with just one fumble all season despite a massive workload. He had five fumbles entering his final season at UNC.
Career Summary
- Put up 3,563 rushing yards on 624 carries (5.7 YPA) with 37 touchdowns over three seasons.
- Seventy-two receptions for 631 yards (8.8 YPR) and three receiving touchdowns, showing steady receiving development.
- Career 24% dominator rating (70th percentile), proving he was a consistent offensive centerpiece for North Carolina in the last two seasons.
- Junior year peak: Over 2,000 total yards, 17 touchdowns and a 38% dominator rating (85th percentile) — one of the most productive ball-carriers in the nation.
- Hampton’s 2.7 career yards per play does leave a little to be desired.
- Hampton played under long-time NFL and college football coach Freddie Kitchens from 2023-2024 at UNC. Kitchens seems to be regarded well by former New England Patriots brass, given he was promoted to offensive coordinator after Bill Belichick took the head coaching job.
- My NFL player comps for Hampton are Ryan Mathews and Zach Charbonnet.
TreVeyon Henderson (RB – Ohio State)
Age at Draft: 22 | Height/Weight: 5-foot-10/208 pounds | Career Dominator Rating: 18% | 2024 Dominator Rating: 17%

- Led Ohio State’s backfield as an 18-year-old true freshman, immediately establishing himself as a game-changer.
- Rushed for 1,248 yards on 183 carries (6.8 YPA) and 15 touchdowns, leading the Buckeyes in rushing.
- Impacted the passing game with 27 receptions for 312 yards and four receiving touchdowns, rounding out a 19-touchdown season.
- Earned a 24% dominator rating, proving to be one of the most valuable backs in the country.
Sophomore Year (2022) – Injury-Plagued Season
- Played through a broken foot and torn ligaments in his left foot for most of the season, significantly hampering his production.
- Despite the injury, still managed 576 yards on 106 carries (5.4 YPA) and six total touchdowns.
- Limited as a receiver, catching just four passes for 28 yards and a touchdown.
- Played only 124 snaps, a sharp drop from his freshman season.
Junior Year (2023) – Strong Comeback, But Limited Availability
- Missed three games due to a knee injury, playing in just 10 out of 13 games.
- When healthy, showed elite efficiency, rushing for 925 yards on 156 carries (5.9 YPA) and 11 touchdowns.
- Re-established himself as an effective receiver, recording 19 catches for 229 yards.
- Posted a 23% dominator rating, proving his ability to be a top-tier weapon when on the field.
Senior Year (2024) – Resilient Finish & Efficiency Leader
- Shared the backfield with running back Quinshon Judkins, who transferred from Ole Miss, yet still put together a 1,010-yard season on just 145 carries (7.0 YPA) with 10 touchdowns.
- Despite a reduced workload, he was the more efficient runner, finishing second in his draft class in YPA (7.0) during the 2024 collegiate season.
- Maintained a strong role in the passing game, hauling in 26 catches for 281 yards and a touchdown.
- Played 189 snaps, showing durability while handling a split workload.
Career Summary
- Finished with 3,759 rushing yards on 590 carries (6.4 YPA) and 42 touchdowns over four seasons.
- Seventy-six receptions for 850 yards (11.2 YPR) and six receiving scores, proving long-term value as a pass-catcher.
- Battled multiple injuries (foot, knee) but remained a highly efficient back throughout his career.
- Capped off his college career with a dominant efficiency season, outperforming a strong backfield mate.
- His 18% career dominator rating isn’t great, but injuries and backfield competition provide much-needed context behind the raw numbers.
- Great long speed, explosive with strong chops in the receiving game.
- Player comps: Tony Pollard, Jaylen Wright
