2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Xavier Restrepo

Xavier Restrepo (WR – Miami)

5-foot-11 | 198 Pounds

Background

Xavier Restrepo played all but his senior season at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, catching one pass in his first season with the Hurricanes. Was a complementary receiver in 2021 and 2022, with lines of 24-373-2 (15.5) and 21-240-2 (11.4) before emerging as a go-to option out of the slot in his junior year. Posted a line of 85-1,092-6 (12.8) that year, then caught 69-1,127-11 (16.3) in 2024.

Positives

Has been a highly productive slot receiver over the past two years. Compactly-built slot with a low center of gravity. Knows how to vary his tempo to lull defenders into a false sense of security before using solid bursts to create separation for throws underneath. Sinks his hips into the stem on some short routes and shows clean footwork on jerk/whip routes to create separation. Finds soft spots in zone coverage for high-percentage completions.

Not purely an underneath option; Restrepo has some juice to threaten down the seams. Miami occasionally had him run a flag route or something of that nature to take the occasional shot. Shows the ability to improvise and create opportunities when the play breaks down. A highly reliable receiver who has only been credited with six drops against 154 catches over the past two seasons, and who the team looked to in clutch moments. Shows some incredible concentration/focus on difficult throws.

Became a much more dynamic player after the catch this season. Does a nice job of finding pockets of space to maximize additional yardage. Competitive player with good toughness, and his low pad level allows him to run through the occasional arm tackle. Offers good effort as a blocker. Miami sometimes aligned him tight to the formation for that purpose.

Negatives

Lack of ideal size and experience outside will likely make Restrepo a slot-only prospect for many teams. Frame suggests he may struggle to deal with physical jams at the line of scrimmage. Could snap off some of his in-breaking routes a bit flatter when working against zone to prevent defensive backs from having a chance to get back in-phase.

Routes sometimes trail off when he’s not one of the primary reads. A quick player with burst and some acceleration, but might struggle to consistently run away from opponents on man-beaters. There’s a little bit of stiffness to his build. Can struggle to hang on through contact when working in the middle. Doesn’t present the widest catch radius. Restrepo’s lack of length is apparent in his blocking. Has relatively minimal experience/production as a return specialist — 13 punt returns and 10 kick returns in his career; none of either this past season.

Summary

A quick slot receiver with an understanding of tempo, good burst at the stem, reliable hands, impressive toughness and above-average run-after-catch vision and power, Restrepo’s pro projection requires relatively little imagination.

While he likely lacks the size/speed to win consistently on the outside, he’s a savvy, pro-ready target who should be able to produce as an inside receiver sooner rather than later, establishing himself as a trusted target for a pro passer. That should be enough to get him consideration on the draft’s second day.

Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona)

A very big, smooth, savvy receiver with an incredible catch radius and a graceful game, McMillan established himself as one of the best wide receivers in college football over the past two seasons. May never be the fastest or most explosive wide receiver, but has a great understanding of how to use tempo, nuance and technique to create separation.

Is capable of coming down with contested catches even in tight coverage, with rare size that makes him a mismatch for most cornerbacks. May not have quite the same strength and physicality as Mike Evans did coming out, but is a similar prospect and should go similarly high in the first round, likely within the first five or 10 picks.

Luther Burden III (Missouri)

A dynamic player with the ball in his hands, Burden’s combination of speed, quickness, vision, balance and physicality led the Tigers to scheme up ways to get him the ball, whether on underneath throws, sweeps, screens or otherwise. He also offers some impressive traits as a receiver, with good stop-start quickness to create separation, impressive tracking and body control and a strong pair of hands.

As it currently stands, he doesn’t have a ton of recent experience playing outside and will need to continue diversifying his route tree and polishing his route-running technique, but that doesn’t look like it will stop him from being a first-round pick.

Projection: Round 1

Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State)

Another highly-polished Buckeyes receiver prospect, Egbuka’s excellent combination of acceleration, quickness, route-running savvy, hands and toughness should make him a highly reliable pro receiver.

Likely would have been a first-round pick last year had he stayed healthy. Coming back to put together the season he did gives him a very good chance of going there this year if everything checks out medically during the pre-draft process. A nice reliable, pro-ready big slot option.
