2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker (OG – Alabama)
6-foot-5 | 325 Pounds
Background
A four-star recruit out of the IMG Academy, Tyler Booker totaled 427 snaps as a swing reserve between both left and right guard as a freshman before stepping into the starting left guard role in 2023, surrendering two sacks on the year.
This season, Booker started at left guard, aside from the second game of the season, where he played left tackle; did not give up a sack, per Pro Football Focus (PFF), but was credited with seven penalties.
Positives
A big, thickly-built two-year starter at one of college football’s premier programs. Possesses the kind of natural power his frame would indicate, with stable contact balance. Has good flexibility through his body, with better lateral quickness than anticipated; the team often has him pulling to the left side of the formation and leading the way on outside rushing attempts.
Booker works hard to get out in space when pulling. Generally maintains his form and avoids lunging when climbing to the second level. Has heavy hands to control the interaction when he gets locked on, and hand placement in a phone booth is good. Keeps his feet churning after contact to generate push. Plays through the whistle and does a good job of sustaining in a phone booth. Alert and active in pass protection.
Has nice knee bend and a wide base in pass pro, with his hands high and inside. Proactive with his hands to try and keep blockers out of his frame. Absorbs power as well as you’d expect given his strong frame, dropping an early anchor. Light on his feet; avoids getting stuck in, allowing him to handle second-effort moves.
Negatives
Length appears to be closer to average; has started one game at tackle, but looks like a guard at the next level. Not the lightest on his feet and looks much better in a phone booth; shows good effort when pulling or otherwise getting out in space, but lacks juice.
Booker has to sell out to get to the second level and struggles to line up opponents at times. Hand placement could be a little bit more consistent in space. Some leaner tendencies. Got flagged seven times this year. Has been listed at over 350 pounds in the past, so conditioning could be an issue.
Summary
A two-year starter with a thick, strong build and the ability to create movement in a phone booth and absorb power in pass protection, Booker’s technically sound game and SEC experience should allow him to step into a lineup relatively soon.
While he occasionally struggled to get out in space and secure blocks, Booker showed impressive effort and handled some difficult responsibilities in Alabama’s power-based concepts. Would be best in an in-line scheme and looks like he’ll come off the board on the second day as a relatively safe pick.
Projection: Round 2/Round 3
