2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jack Bech

Jack Bech (WR – TCU)

6-foot-2 | 215 Pounds

Background

Listed as a four-star tight end recruit out of Louisiana who originally attended LSU, where he started seven out of 13 games at receiver as a true freshman, finishing with a line of 43-489-3 (11.4).

After a sophomore season in which he saw his playing time cut down (ending up with a 16-200-1 line), Jack Bech transferred to TCU, where he again played sparingly in 2023 (12-146-0) before breaking out this past season and establishing himself as the team’s go-to receiver.

Finished this season with a 62-1,034-9 (16.7) line. His Brother Tiger was unfortunately a victim of the New Orleans terror attack on New Year’s Day.

Positives

Big, well-built receiver who put himself on teams’ radars with a big senior year. Bech typically took snaps on the line of scrimmage and from the right side of the formation this past year but was predominantly a slot receiver in the three years prior. There’s not a lot of wasted motion in his release package against press coverage.

Relatively smooth mover for such a big receiver, with a little bit of snap to his routes at the stem. Working against off-coverage, shows pretty good speed and does a nice job of finding soft spots on in-breaking routes in the space between zone coverage. Able to work through physicality and stay on track. Shows a nice jab step to set up fade routes near the end zone. Presents a big target for his quarterback, with very reliable hands, having dropped just four career passes against 133 career receptions, per Pro Football Focus (PFF).

Bech’s size, strength, frame and toughness allow him to successfully box out opposing defenders and come down with contested catches. Powerful, competitive runner after the catch who wastes little time getting upfield and can use his size and strength to stiff-arm opponents or run through arm tackles.

Texas Christian often gave him opportunities to create with some room to work on screens, speed outs, hitches and slants. Shows good effort as a blocker, and has the functional strength and physical profile to stalk effectively.

Negatives

Bech comes from an offense that didn’t have the most advanced route trees, so he’ll need to continue to learn patterns and practice his footwork from the other side of the formation more frequently. Doesn’t have the most sudden releases at the line of scrimmage. On his outside releases down the sideline, can struggle to gain separation for the team’s deep shots. Is more of a smooth athlete than an explosive one.

Goes through the stems of his routes a little bit upright, and doesn’t show the best flexibility in his lower body. Settles into coverage at times when working against zone coverage, but it’s possible players in the scheme didn’t have the freedom to make sight adjustments. Sometimes struggles to line up opponents in space when stalking.

Summary

A big, strong and smooth receiver who runs simple but effective routes, Bech presents a big target and a very nice set of hands. Shows good competitiveness and toughness after the catch and as a blocker.

Bech may not be the most explosive or loosest receiver prospect in the class, but he has a well-rounded game that should allow him to develop into a reliable possession receiver with just enough juice for the occasional downfield shot. Not as rare a talent as teammate Savion Williams, but he is currently the better receiver of the two.

Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona)

A very big, smooth, savvy receiver with an incredible catch radius and a graceful game, McMillan established himself as one of the best wide receivers in college football over the past two seasons. May never be the fastest or most explosive wide receiver, but has a great understanding of how to use tempo, nuance and technique to create separation.

Is capable of coming down with contested catches even in tight coverage, with rare size that makes him a mismatch for most cornerbacks. May not have quite the same strength and physicality as Mike Evans did coming out, but is a similar prospect and should go similarly high in the first round, likely within the first five or 10 picks.

Projection: Round 1

Luther Burden III (Missouri)

A dynamic player with the ball in his hands, Burden’s combination of speed, quickness, vision, balance and physicality led the Tigers to scheme up ways to get him the ball, whether on underneath throws, sweeps, screens or otherwise. He also offers some impressive traits as a receiver, with good stop-start quickness to create separation, impressive tracking and body control and a strong pair of hands.

As it currently stands, he doesn’t have a ton of recent experience playing outside and will need to continue diversifying his route tree and polishing his route-running technique, but that doesn’t look like it will stop him from being a first-round pick.

Projection: Round 1

Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State)

Another highly-polished Buckeyes receiver prospect, Egbuka’s excellent combination of acceleration, quickness, route-running savvy, hands and toughness should make him a highly reliable pro receiver.

Likely would have been a first-round pick last year had he stayed healthy. Coming back to put together the season he did gives him a very good chance of going there this year if everything checks out medically during the pre-draft process. A nice reliable, pro-ready big slot option.

Projection: Round 1
