The Fantasy Football season has concluded and champions have been crowned. Winning a fantasy championship is (usually) no easy feat – you have to do a lot of things right. You have to draft well, you have to make smart decisions with waivers and trades, and perhaps most importantly, you need to start the right players each week. Lucky for us, there is a whole industry of Fantasy Football experts who publish rankings each week for exactly this purpose. But with so many options, whose rankings should you look at? In an effort to answer that question, we track the accuracy of rankings from as many experts as possible, and now that the season is over it’s time to reveal the most accurate experts of the 2024 season.
If you want the full story on how we measure in-season rankings accuracy, check out our methodology page. I’ll give you the short-ish version here. The weekly player pool for each position is determined by all the players that rank high enough according to the Expert Consensus Rankings or rank high enough in actual results. “High enough” varies by position – for example we include all the running backs to rank in the top 40 by either standard. This ensures that surprise busts and surprise studs are both included.
Then we judge a set of rankings by interpreting it as a set of projections – if you rank Justin Herbert as the #10 QB, we interpret that as predicting his fantasy points will be the average for the 10th-best QB each week. We compare that prediction to his actual fantasy points and calculate the difference. We add together those differences across the whole player pool to get a lower-is-better measure of accuracy. For the season-long competition we look at weeks 1 through 17, and drop each expert’s worst week.
The total scores for the season give us our most accurate experts for each position, and we combine those scores for QB, RB, WR and TE to determine the overall leaderboard. We also track accuracy for DST, K and IDP, but it doesn’t impact the overall leaderboard.

A huge congratulations is in order for Tyler Orginski of JWB Fantasy Football! Tyler has participated in the competition for five years and has climbed the leaderboard each year. This win represents three straight years in the top 20 and back-to-back top 10 finishes – that’s no easy feat. This adds to an impressive resume that includes a 4th-place finish in our draft rankings accuracy competition in 2022. Tyler also earned the distinction of being one of only two experts to rank in the top 10 and three different positions, and they happen to be the three most important – QB, RB and WR.
Our silver medalist is Joe Bond of Fantasy Six Pack! Joe is the other expert to rank in the top 10 at all three of QB, RB and WR. This adds to an impressive resume that paints a picture of consistency. This is Joe’s fourth time in the top 5, and his ninth straight year in the top 30, an impressive streak in a competition that has well over 100 participants every year. To add to the pile, he was also our #1 most accurate expert for Kickers this year, perhaps the most difficult position to predict.
Our third place winner should need no introduction if you’re plugged into the Fantasy Football world, it’s Sean Koerner of The Action Network! It is not an understatement to call him the Tom Brady of fantasy football. Sean has won this competition a ridiculous four times and has never ranked lower than 14th in 11 years competing. Congratulations to Sean for his seventh top-5 finish.
Most Accurate Experts at Each Position
The overall competition just looks at the big four positions because they are the most relevant to most fantasy leagues, but we like to still recognize the best ranker at each individual position.
Top 2024 In-Season Experts By Position | |
QB | Ben Wasley – The Fantasy First Down |
RB | Joe Bond – Fantasy Six Pack |
WR | Sean Koerner – The Action Network |
TE | Matt Schauf – Draft Sharks |
DST | Ben Wasley – The Fantasy First Down |
K | Joe Bond – Fantasy Six Pack |
IDP | MasterIDP – RPO Football |
This year we have the rare occurrence of two different experts ranking #1 for two different positions each. Ben Wasley of The Fantasy First Down displayed a deep understanding of quarterbacks. Not only was he the #1 QB ranker, but he also ranked at #1 for team defenses, which is really a quarterback award because fantasy defense scoring is so heavily dependent on sacks and interceptions. He did quite well in the overall competition too, finishing 12th.
MasterIDP, AKA Leo from RPO Football has really lived up to his name. It’s a small but highly competitive world of IDP experts, and Leo has dominated. He has only been competing for three years, but has won the IDP crown all three times. It’s mathematically impossible to do better than that.
This concludes our 2024 in-season accuracy results. Be sure to check out the full standings, including every expert’s rank at every position, here. See you next year!
