The tight end position was dealt another couple of blows in Week 13 as Taysom Hill and Dallas Goedert both suffered knee injuries and were forced to leave their respective games. It looks worse for Hill, who is now expected to miss the rest of the season. Goedert does not appear to have a long-term injury, but he has proven to be injury-prone this season.
These injuries just continue the theme of unpredictability at the tight end position this season. Through 13 Weeks, only four tight ends are averaging over 10 half-PPR fantasy points per game. One of them — Hill — is now done for the year. Hopefully, we can identify some other good choices on the waiver wire this week to help fill those tight end roster holes.

This weekly column helps identify tight ends that are strong streaming options for the week ahead. Whether it’s due to bye weeks, injuries or overall lack of production, these tight ends are often widely available on the waiver wire (all are fewer than 50% rostered in Yahoo! leagues) and have matchups worth exploiting for fantasy football.
Fantasy Football Tight End Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups
Noah Gray (TE – KC) vs. L.A. Chargers | 11% Rostered
Even after two very strong games, Noah Gray’s roster percentage between Weeks 12 and 13 only went up from 4% to 11%. That number is likely due to Travis Kelce and the feeling Gray’s big games (89 yards and four touchdowns in Weeks 11 and 12) were a fluke and wouldn’t be repeated. The two touchdowns per game are indeed very unlikely to continue, but what has continued is Gray’s opportunity in the Chiefs’ offense.
In Week 13, Gray had another six targets and four receptions for 58 yards. That’s now 16 targets and 12 receptions in the last three weeks. That Week 13 production was accompanied by one of Gray’s highest snap shares of the season (62%). It may be hard to believe, but only Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy have more targets than Noah Gray among all Chiefs players this season. He is a clear part of this offense as Kansas City deploys more 12 personnel and is worth rostering against the Chargers and Browns in the next two weeks.
Juwan Johnson (TE – NO) @ New York Giants | 3% Rostered
The offensive injuries continue to mount for New Orleans. This time it is Swiss Army knife tight end Taysom Hill who has suffered a season-ending knee injury and leaves the Saints even more short-handed. In recent weeks, we have seen New Orleans pass-catchers like Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Kevin Austin Jr. step up. Now it’s going to be Juwan Johnson’s turn to take over a lot of the snaps and receiving work Hill was getting in this offense.
After Hill (five catches for 37 yards on Sunday) went down, Johnson became much more involved in the offense. He drew seven targets, which was his most of the season, finishing with five catches for 36 yards. Last week, he scored his second touchdown of the season. He will have to contend with Foster Moreau at tight end, but Johnson’s 70% snap share in Week 13 was his most since Week 7. A bigger role for the athletic tight end is surely coming.
Tommy Tremble (TE – CAR) @ Philadelphia Eagles | 1% Rostered
Ja’Tavion Sanders missed Week 13 with the horrible neck injury he suffered in Week 12. Tommy Tremble was the big beneficiary at tight end. Tremble played every single offensive snap in the overtime thriller against Tampa Bay. He had eight targets, five catches and 77 yards on the day. Only Adam Thielen and David Moore saw more targets than Tremble. It was clear Bryce Young created a connection between the two.
It is quite likely Sanders also will miss Week 14, which will put Tremble back on the field for almost every play once again. The best part about watching the Young-Tremble connection was Tremble’s ability to get open against linebackers because of his athleticism combined with Young’s evolving poise in the pocket and ability to scramble and make throws on the run. Against the Eagles and Cowboys over the next two weeks, Tremble has an opportunity to rack up targets.
Bonus Tight End Pickup: Hunter Henry (TE – NE) | 47% Rostered
Hunter Henry is on a bye in Week 14, but that’s the perfect opportunity to grab him for a discount if you are in the 53% of leagues where he is available on the waiver wire. He could be a valuable tight end for the stretch run and playoffs since the Patriots will be underdogs against the Cardinals, Bills and Chargers in Weeks 15-17. Henry now has at least eight targets in five of his last seven games and at least nine fantasy points in seven of his last eight.
