8 Fantasy Football Smash Starts: Week 14 (2024)

If you were lucky not to insert Tony Pollard, Will Dissly or the New York Giants defense in your Week 13 lineup, you would have loved my Week 13 smash starts. Each of those selections provided zero points for your fantasy lineups. However, the remaining selections supplied your fantasy football lineups with plenty of points and, hopefully, victories.

Anthony Richardson kicked off the points explosion, demonstrating his growth and confidence in leading the Indianapolis Colts to an 80-yard game-winning drive that climaxed with Richardson throwing a touchdown and scoring a two-pointer with 12 seconds to secure the win. Richardson finished with two passing scores, rushing for 48 yards and a score that allowed him to finish as the QB9.

Rico Dowdle produced his first 100-yard rushing performance this season and added a score to finish as the RB4. We also saw the continued emergence of Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving. Irving carried the Bucs offense to a Week 13 win over the much-improved Carolina Panthers. The former Oregon Duck running back rushed 26 times for 152 yards and a touchdown. Irving also grabbed all three of his targets for 33 receiving yards on his way to being the top fantasy running back last week.

Rounding out the smash lineup are two wideouts who provided stellar stats. Courtland Sutton produced six catches on nine targets for 102 yards during Monday Night Football against the Cleveland Browns. DJ Moore topped that with eight receptions on a whopping 16 targets for 97 yards and a score.

The fantasy playoffs are right around the corner, so there is no time to wait to check out this week’s smash starts.

Fantasy Football Smash Starts For Week 14

Quarterback

Will Levis (QB – TEN) vs. Jacksonville

It might not be a prominent selection, but diving into the numbers display, Will Levis should be considered a smash streamer this week. His matchup against Jacksonville is juicy. The Jaguars have allowed eight quarterbacks to score more than 20 fantasy points against them this season. They allow the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.

Levis has been playing well since he sat out for three weeks due to a shoulder injury. He has produced multiple scores in three of the last four weeks. The former Wildcat scored 20+ fantasy points in three of the previous four weeks, including two consecutive 20+ point games. Levis will score at least 20 fantasy points for fantasy managers in this plus-matchup.

Running Back

Rico Dowdle (RB – DAL) vs. Cincinnati

Rico Dowdle broke out last week in the Cowboys’ win over the New York Giants. Dowdle recorded season-highs in carries (22) and rushing yards (112) and scored his first rushing touchdown.

His matchup against the Bengals this week should have fantasy managers smiling. The Bengals’ defense has surrendered at least 100 yards from scrimmage or a touchdown to an opposing running back in every game this season. Najee Harris had one of his best games this season, producing 129 scrimmage yards and one touchdown in Week 13. Dowdle will at least duplicate those numbers. Do not be shocked if he outproduces those stats in an extreme smash start.

Isaac Guerendo (RB – SF) vs. Chicago

Hopefully, you had enough remaining FAAB to snag Isaac Guerendo from your waiver wire. Guerendo is an auto must-start and will be a smash start in his first NFL start. Every running back in a Shanahan system is a fantasy darling. Guerendo will be no different.

Why wait to reap the awards? Guerendo was turning heads in camp with his 4.3 speed. His big-play ability should be on display immediately against a Chicago Bears defense that has allowed 141.3 rushing yards per game across the last three weeks. Opposing running games are averaging an ugly 4.9 yards per carry this season. Guerendo provides elite numbers in his starting debut and will win many matchups for fantasy managers this week who trust him when making fantasy start sit decisions.

Wide Receiver

Jordan Addison (WR – MIN) vs. Atlanta

The Vikings’ offense has been erratic at times, but they are on a five-game winning streak and look to continue that streak against the slumping Falcons. The Falcons are watching Father Time catch up with Kirk Cousins as they try to get in the win column for the first time in four games.

Jordan Addison has continued to emerge and the chemistry with quarterback Sam Darnold is improving. Addison has scored in three of his last five games with 22 receptions on 33 targets for 344 yards in that span. Darnold has thrown for multiple touchdowns in three consecutive games and looks for the streak to continue this week against the Falcons, who allow the third-most touchdowns to wide receivers. The Darnold-Addison connection will connect for a few splash plays, providing fantasy managers with no hesitation to view Addison as a Week 14 smash start.

Jakobi Meyers (WR – LV) at Tampa Bay

Jakobi Meyers is coming off two strong performances, totaling 16 receptions on 26 targets for 218 yards. Meyers has produced at least 97 receiving yards in three of his last five games, averaging 10 targets per game across his last five matchups.

The Buccaneers have struggled against wide receivers this season. The Bucs are in the bottom 10 in fantasy points allowed to wide receivers, averaging 29.9 fantasy points allowed per game. They also surrender the third-most catches per game (14) to wideouts and cough up an average of one wideout score per game. Meyers will continue his impressive streak of imposing fantasy production with an outstanding game at Raymond James Stadium.

Calvin Ridley (WR – TEN) VS. Jacksonville

Activate the revenge game narrative. Calvin Ridley will look to stick it to the Jaguars and show why they should have paid him. Admittedly, Ridley has been an inconsistent option for fantasy managers this season. The former Alabama wideout has been burdened with inconsistent quarterback play, but Will Levis has found his groove lately.

Ridley has averaged eight targets and 75 receiving yards across his last seven games, although he has scored only two touchdowns. Combine the revenge factor with a matchup against the league’s worst pass defense in the Jaguars and we should see Ridley hit paydirt at least once on Sunday.

Tight End

Jake Ferguson (TE – DAL) vs. Cincinnati

Welcome back, Jake Ferguson. Ferguson returns after being out the past two weeks due to a concussion. Fire Ferguson up in this matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals defense, who surrenders the second-most fantasy points to the tight end position.

The Cowboys’ offense continues to improve, with Cooper Rush providing some energy with four passing scores in the last three games. Rush did develop chemistry with tight end Luke Schoonmaker, who stepped in for Ferguson. Ferguson is a better option in the passing game and will turn in a TE1 finish this week in a smash start.

Defense

Arizona Cardinals D/ST vs. Seattle

The Arizona Cardinals’ defense has emerged as one of the best in the second half of this season. The Cardinals have produced the most sacks (11) and have allowed only 4.9 yards per play, the second-best in the league since Week 7. Their Week 13 opponent, Seattle, is struggling offensively, and their offensive line is in shambles.

The Seahawks could be without two offensive weapons in running back Kenneth Walker and wide receiver DK Metcalf, which doesn’t bode well for a Seahawks offense already having issues and is allowing defenses to average 10.67 fantasy points across the last four weeks. The Cardinals took on the Seahawks in Week 12, and their defense posted 11 fantasy points. Look for that number to increase this week in a smash spot for the Cardinals’ defense.
