2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jared Ivey

Jared Ivey (DL – Mississippi)

6-foot-6 | 285 Pounds

Background

Three-star recruit who spent the first two seasons of his career at Georgia Tech. Jared Ivey rotated in a bit in 2020 (eight tackles), then stepped into a starting role the following year, finishing with 32-6.0-1.5. Transferred to Mississippi, where he posted a 37-5.0-3.5 line in 2022, 46-12.0-5.5 in 2023 and a line of 38-10.0-7.0 as of the end of the 2024 regular season.

Positives

Very well-built four-year starter with escalating production. Typically plays on the end of the Rebels’ three-man lines, but will occasionally stand up and function as a strongside elephant. Plays the run with discipline, keeping his shoulders square and handling his gap responsibilities effectively. Stays home on the backside. Has a stable base underneath him and a strong anchor to hold the point of attack.

Ivey gets good extension with his arms to lock out opponents, locates well and has some heaviness to his hands to shed. Shows a pretty good motor in run support. Length gives him a solid tackling radius. Productive inside rusher who has good lateral quickness and is active and effective with his hands to work his way through gaps and create pressure; mixes swipes and swims. Active to seek out clear lanes to the passer, with pretty good footwork. Closes relatively well when he finds a lane and is a pretty good finisher.

Despite playing with other talented linemen like Walter Nolen, Ivey can draw some additional help from blockers and free up teammates. Gets his hands up to contest passing lanes and has the length to bat down screens and other throws.

Negatives

Spent five years in school and is a little bit older than some of the other linemen in the class. His frame might make him a strange fit for some even fronts, although he does have some experience playing as more of a traditional interior lineman. Would like to see him fire out more consistently; has some tendencies to rise out of his stance with occasional balance issues.

Flashes good speed in pursuit, but range could be described as somewhat inconsistent. Ivey lacks the first-step explosiveness to threaten the edge in the passing game. Knifes through gaps effectively, but would like to see him work the bull rush more consistently, get his legs going and walk back opposing linemen. Doesn’t have a deep repertoire of counters and tends to end up idling around the line when his initial move is unsuccessful.

Summary

A tall, well-built defensive lineman who has been increasingly productive despite transferring into the SEC a few years ago. Plays the run with good discipline, power and effort, and is capable of threatening gaps on the interior in the passing game.

Compared with some of the other top linemen in the class, Ivey is probably a bit more versatile, having moved around often in school and possessing the skills to conceivably succeed in both one- and two-gap fronts. While he may not be the most explosive mover, versatility and consistency could potentially make him a three-down player in the league. He should get second-day looks.
