Fantasy Football for a good cause. Our friends at SmashUp Fantasy Sports have teamed up with the Scott Fish Bowl, Fantasy Cares, and the Jimmy V Foundation to bring us a unique Thanksgiving week DFS contest titled Tackle Cancer Before the Snap. Users can help raise money for charity just by playing free fantasy football. SmashUp will donate $1 for every user (new or existing) who submits a lineup for Thanksgiving Week (11/26 – 12/2). SmashUp donates $1 to the Jimmy V Foundation

The contests are completely free to play with no pay-to-win mechanics. And best of all, it’s for a great cause. In an effort to mobilize users to spread awareness, SmashUp is offering one entry per referral for a $25 draw that will run after the week is complete. There will be 20 winners, and you can win more than once.

New SmashCard

SmashUp has introduced a special SmashCard for this week called V for Victory. This card awards a 1.25x multiplier for players on a winning team and a 0.75x multiplier for players on a losing team. Utilizing this card presents a new layer of complexity and strategy but could pay significant dividends if employed correctly.

Jimmy V Foundation

The Jimmy V Foundation is a non-profit founded by ESPN and former basketball coach and ESPN commentator Jim Valvano with one goal in mind: to achieve Victory Over Cancer. The charity has allocated over $353 million in grants for cancer research across the nation.

Contests

There are three different contest types to choose from. Weekly Tournaments, Fantasy Leagues, and Single Player Campaign. The weekly tournaments are their classic free-to-play contests with cash prizes for the top finishers. The Fantasy Leagues option has fewer offerings, given we are heading into Week 13, but there are two-week Lightning Leagues that offer a small prize for the winner. Finally, we have their newest offering, the Single Player Campaign, which is a ladder-style tournament akin to Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. Ascend the ladder by beating a Head Coach. Lineups for Head Coaches will be set by the likes of Scott Fish as well as our very own Andrew Erickson and Pat Fitzmaurice.

Entering a Lineup

I will be entering all three of the lineups I am allowed to, but new users who sign up with the code FANTASYPROSCARES will get an additional fourth lineup. I will break down one of my actual lineups for the Single Player Campaign. At quarterback, I went with Anthony Richardson in the hopes a softer opponent would lead to another QB1 finish. He has a lower-end salary for Week 13, which will allow me to roster who I want at other positions. At running back, I tapped the two best in the league in Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley. I went with three wide receivers (one flex) and tapped Ladd McConkey, Jerry Jeudy, and Jameson Williams. All three of these players offer WR1 upside. At tight end, my options were limited due to this being the last position I filled, but I was surprised to see the likes of Sam LaPorta, Mark Andrews, Tucker Kraft, and Will Dissly still within my budget. I have tapped Andrews for now because I believe Lamar is going to need him against a team with its issues covering the seams. Finally, at kicker and defense, I went with Jason Sanders, who has been balling, and the Texans’ defense due to facing Jacksonville.

The SmashCards I will be using are as listed below.

Run CMC: Saquon Barkley
This card awards 30 points if the selected player has over 80 rushing yards and 40 receiving yards. The Eagles are going to lean on Saquon regardless of gamescript this weekend, making this a very attractive SmashCard.

Starting RB: Derrick Henry
This card offers a 1.5x multiplier to your score. I went with Henry since Saquon already has a card on him and may see his rushing attempts limited if gamescript gets out of hand.

Sacks in the City: Texans
Every sack by your defense gets a 4x multiplier added to that component of your score. The Texans’ front is back close to full strength and should come out hot in this one.

Defense Wins Championships: Texans
If your defense’s team wins the game, you get 15 points. This one was easy as the Texans are facing off against the Jaguars.
