NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer
NBA DFS Core Plays
- DraftKings: $9,600
- FanDuel: $9,900
LaMelo Ball has been, well, ballin’ this season. He has 31+ points in six of his 10 games so far, and he had a season-high 38 points last time out in Philadelphia on Sunday. He added eight assists, four rebounds and two steals while draining six three-pointers.
He has five or more triples in three straight games and five out of six games in November, while going for four or more triples in eight of his 10 games.
- DraftKings: $8,800
- FanDuel: $8,700
This is a pretty cheap price for Anthony Edwards, so take advantage. He had an off night against the Miami Heat on Sunday, going for just 22 points with six assists and five boards on an 8-for-24 shooting night. Before that, though, he averaged 35.0 points per game (PPG), 7.0 rebounds per game (RPG) and 5.5 assists per game (APG) with 1.0 blocks per game (BPG) and 7.0 three-pointers per game in a pair of games.
One of those games came against the Trail Blazers, Tuesday’s opponent. He dropped 37 points on the Blazers on Friday at Target Center, going for nine triples.
- DraftKings: $8,600
- FanDuel: $8,600
With Trae Young sidelined due to a right Achilles tendinitis, Jalen Johnson and the rest of the starters are going to have to fill a major scoring void. He has been super consistent, whether Young is in the lineup or not.
Johnson has scored 20+ points in five straight games and seven of the past eight outings. In November, Johnson is averaging 21.0 PPG, 9.2 RPG, 5.7 APG and 1.0 steals per game (SPG) in six games.
NBA DFS Cash Game Targets
- DraftKings: $8,900
- FanDuel: $9,100
Cade Cunningham saw his three-game triple-double streak come to an end Sunday against the Houston Rockets, but just barely. He went for 26 points with nine assists and eight rebounds in 36 minutes. That’s just about what his averages have been in six November games, as he has gone for 21.0 PPG, 9.0 APG and 8.7 RPG while hitting 47.3% of his field-goal attempts.
Cunningham should be able to take advantage of a Miami Heat team allowing 36.5% on three-point attempts, as their defense ranks just 21st in the NBA in the category.
- DraftKings: $8,200
- FanDuel: $8,300
Jaylen Brown returned to the lineup Sunday in Milwaukee after a four-game absence due to a hip ailment. He was a little rusty, misfiring on nine of his 13 field-goal attempts, ending up with just 14 points, which is 10 below his average.
Look for Brown to be more like himself in this one, especially against the Hawks’ leaky scoring defense. Atlanta allows 121.7 points per game, while teams are hitting field goals at a 47.2% clip. More importantly, the Hawks allow teams to hit at a 39.9% pace from behind the three-point line.
- DraftKings: $7,000
- FanDuel: $6,900
Kevin Durant is expected to miss at least two weeks due to a strained left calf, so it will be Devin Booker and Bradley Beal who will hold down the fort, trying to fill the scoring void with Durant in street clothes. Beal was good for 28 points last time out against the Sacramento Kings while chipping in with eight boards, three triples, two assists, a blocked shot and a steal.
Beal has been a little erratic in five November outings, but he is coming off his best game of the season. He has managed to score three or more triples in five of his eight games this season.
NBA DFS GPP Targets
- DraftKings: $6,000
- FanDuel: $7,000
The 21-year-old guard is likely going to have to do a little bit of heavy lifting with Trae Young out. Dyason Daniels has been on fire lately and is a great value at this price.
Daniels posted 16 points, eight rebounds and six steals last time out against the Chicago Bulls, and he has four or more steals in each of the past three outings. In November, he is averaging a healthy 12.8 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 3.8 SPG and 2.6 APG while hitting 41.8% of his field-goal attempts.
- DraftKings: $5,400
- FanDuel: $4,800
At this price, Kyle Lowry is a steal. With Tyrese Maxey on the shelf due to a strained right hamstring, Lowry is expected to see an increased role in the offense, while Reggie Jackson and Jared McCain are also likely to benefit.
The veteran had a respectable eight points, five assists and four rebounds last time out on Sunday against the Charlotte Hornets. He has been good for 7.2 PPG, 4.6 APG and 2.8 RPG in five November games.
- DraftKings: $4,900
- FanDuel: $5,400
Grant Williams was huge off the bench on Sunday in Philadelphia, going for 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including 2-of-7 from behind the arc. He also contributed four boards, three blocked shots, two assists and two steals.
With Miles Bridges sidelined for at least two weeks due to a bone bruise in his right knee, extra minutes are available for Williams and Tidjane Salaun. Look for Williams to take advantage of the extra run.
NBA DFS Value Plays
Haywood Highsmith (PF/SF – MIA)
- DraftKings: $4,600
- FanDuel: $4,800
Haywood Highsmith is a good low-priced candidate in the middle, as Jimmy Butler is ruled out for a second consecutive game Tuesday in Detroit due to a sprained right ankle.
Highsmith was one of the two starting forwards last time out with Jimmy Buckets sidelined. He has been playing well lately, going for 13.7 PPG, 3.0 RPG and 2.3 SPG in his past three outings while averaging a pair of triples per contest.
- DraftKings: $4,200
- FanDuel: $4,000
With Damian Lillard sidelined in the league’s mandated concussion protocol, that opens the door for several others to step up to fill the void. AJ Green, Pat Connaughton and Ryan Rollins are likely to see added responsibilities with Lillard sidelined.
Green, the former Northern Iowa standout, has hit three or more three-pointers in all four of his games in November and is averaging 13.5 PPG.
- DraftKings: $3,700
- FanDuel: $3,800
Garrison Mathews is a nice low-cost DFS option for Tuesday. Mathews has been pretty consistent in November, going for 11.5 PPG with 2.7 three-pointers per game. He’ll also chip in with an occasional steal. With Trae Young sidelined, Mathews is a nice value play, as he should see more playing time.
