Week 10 was a wild ride for kickers and special teams units. There were 10 missed field goals, a couple of muffed punts and a blocked chip shot at the end of regulation that kept the Chiefs undefeated and sent the Broncos home with a heartbreaking loss.

The special teams unit of the 49ers, without question one of the worst in the league, lost another punt in a critical junction, and Jake Moody missed three kicks on the day. As a 49ers fan and someone who promoted Moody as a great start, I was tilting a bit on Sunday afternoon. Luckily, Moody made his final try of the day and the 49ers left Tampa with a win. Moody still finished with 10 fantasy points.
Week 11 Kicker Rankings & Start/Sit Advice
Week 10 Strong Performances From Widely-Available Kickers
Joey Slye (K – NE) @ Chicago: 1% Roster Percentage on Yahoo
In an otherwise dreadful Week 10 game between the Patriots and Bears for fantasy purposes, Joey Slye was one of the only bright spots on either team. He made four field goals and an extra point in a game in which the Bears were 7-point favorites at home. The Bears are dreadful. Perhaps they hit rock bottom this week.
John Parker Romo (K – MIN) @ Jacksonville: 2% Roster Percentage on Yahoo
I’m not sure which is more surprising. The fact John Parker Romo made all four of his kicks to start his career or that the Minnesota offense could not score a single touchdown on Sunday.
Week 10 Dud Performances From Heavily-Owned Kickers
Justin Tucker (K – BAL) vs. Cincinnati: 99% Roster Percentage on Yahoo
It is pretty crazy to think a kicker like Justin Tucker, arguably the best of all time, would score just two fantasy points in a week in which the Bengals and Ravens combined to score 69 total points. But that is just what happened, as Tucker missed an extra point and had zero field goal attempts on the week. It may surprise some to learn that Tucker is in the midst of his worst season and ranks 13th overall in points per game.

*Red Zone Efficiency is based on the inverse of how well the kicker’s offense does in the red zone. For example, the Ravens rank 30th in red zone efficiency, giving Justin Tucker an RZ EFF score of 2. The lower the number, the better for kickers, as playing on a team that struggles to score touchdowns in the red zone equates to more field goal opportunities.
**The K Score is the sum of an opponent’s red zone, the red zone efficiency of his offense and the overall rank of his respective team in terms of total yards. A low score indicates a kicker has variables working in his favor for a good fantasy kicking performance.
Kicker fantasy football rankings are based on numerous factors, including matchups, Vegas lines and score projections, weather conditions, the ability of a kicker’s team offense and their ability to move the ball into field goal range, offensive red zone efficiency and how well the opposing defense limits touchdowns in the red zone. These factors are a guide, but not a definitive way to predict kicking success, as other variables and negative game scripts significantly impact the outcome.
Based on all of the variables mentioned above, the following two kickers are players ranked outside of FantasyPros’ expert consensus rankings (ECR) top 10 who could be excellent in Week 9.
Brandon McManus (K – GB) vs. Chicago: 3% Roster Percentage on Yahoo
Brandon McManus boasts the lowest K Score in the six years I have been writing this article. Aside from the weather going sideways and a surprising game script, he is a lock for a top-12 finish and is available on the waiver wire everywhere.
Austin Seibert (K – WAS) @ Philadelphia: 32% Roster Percentage on Yahoo
Commanders kickers have scored the most fantasy points per game this season and this game looks like it is setting up for another strong kicker performance. Austin Seibert is hurt and may not play, so be sure to monitor the injury report closely. If he is active, I would start him.
Week 10 Prediction Review
Each week, I suggest two kickers ranked outside the FantasyPros ECR top 10 who I believe will be solid performers based on the variables described in the K Score section. The following is a review of my picks from the previous week to see where I was successful and where I missed the mark.
Jake Moody (K – SF) vs. Tampa Bay: 26% Roster Percentage on Yahoo
- ECR Rank: 20
- My Rank: 10
- Week 10 Finish: T-6
It is pretty nuts to think that a player can miss three kicks on the day and still finish as a top-10 player, but that is exactly what Moody did against the Bucs. Even with Christian McCaffrey back, the Niners continue to struggle in the red zone. Moody had a chance to be the K1 on the week.
Jason Sanders (K – MIA) @ Rams: 32% Roster Percentage on Yahoo
- ECR Rank: 15
- My Rank: 11
- Week 10 Finish: 30
