If your fantasy season is going something like the Pelicans’ season, hopefully, this trade advice article will help you change things around. No, Elfrid Payton (who started for the Pelicans on Tuesday) is not involved here.
If your fantasy season is looking more like the Cavaliers’ 16-1 start, then let’s capitalize on the trade market and keep things going steady.

Fantasy Basketball Trade Advice (Week 4)
Trade For
Lauri Markkanen (UTA – SF, PF)
Lauri Markkanen’s numbers have started to pick up after a slow start. Having reached the 20-point mark just once in his first five games, Markkanen has three such games in his last six. Better yet, his FG% has risen from 38.5% in October to 48.8% in November.
Despite making no notable additions to last year’s roster, Utah’s offensive food chain has oddly changed. Markkanen’s field goal attempts have dropped from last year’s 16.2 to his current 12.2 per game, which ranks fourth on the team and makes him a buy-low candidate. The good news is that Markkanen isn’t being phased out because he’s averaging almost 33 minutes per game this month.
Players to Trade Him For Who Are Ranked Higher: Tyrese Maxey (G – PHI)
Trade Away
Kawhi Leonard (LAC – SG, SF, PF)
The decision to keep or trade Kawhi Leonard comes down to your fantasy squad’s record. If you’re doing well in The Klaw’s absence, hold on and (eventually) watch your team get better upon his return.
A struggling team that has Leonard on injured reserve (IR) is missing out on a consistent contributor that comes with trading him away. Clippers coach Tyronn Lue has taken to ruling Leonard out one week at a time. Recent reports say he’s just now started to participate in shooting drills. Not great.
Leonard is rostered in 96% of Yahoo! leagues and is at 80% on ESPN. While he’s worth a roster spot, 2-2 teams (or worse) with Leonard are better off without the headache.
Players to Trade Him For Who Are Ranked Lower: Isaiah Hartenstein (C – OKC), Dyson Daniels (G – ATL)
Trade For
The Mavericks will rely on Kyrie Irving and P.J. Washington to shoulder the on-ball work with Luka Doncic out with a wrist strain. Doncic leaves behind 22.6 shots per game and the bulk of the ball-handling duties.
The offensively dependent trio of Klay Thompson, Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively likely keep their usual roles, but because Irving and Washington are more capable with the ball in their hands, they should see an uptick in volume.
Players to Trade Him For Who Are Ranked Higher: Bogdan Bogdanovic (G – ATL), Jonas Valanciunas (C – WAS)
Trade Away
Josh Giddey (CHI – PG, SG, SF)
Josh Giddey opened the season averaging 15.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists on 48.2% shooting from the field and 58.8% from three in his first five outings. Since the end of that stretch, Giddey has averaged a line of 10.1, 5.2 and 6.6 on 36.8%/26.2%/72.7% shooting.
As a result, Giddey has seen his minutes wane (hasn’t played 30 minutes since November 11). To make matters worse, three other Chicago guards average at least 28 minutes per game and Lonzo Ball appears to be approaching his return.
The former Thunder seems to be a declining fantasy asset.
Players to Trade Him For Who Are Ranked Lower: Zach LaVine (G – CHI), RJ Barrett (F – TOR)
