Week 6 OL & DL Matchups
Texans DL vs. Patriots OL
Rookie Drake Maye will have his hands full during his first pro start against the Houston Texans.
The Texans’ defensive line ranks fourth in pass rush win rate, ninth in pressure percentage and sixth in sacks per pass attempt.
Unfortunately for Maye, the Patriots’ offensive line is the worst in the NFL. They rank 32nd in pass block win rate and pressure percentage allowed, and they are 31st in QB hits allowed.
A big game could be incoming for the likes of Danielle Hunter, Will Anderson and Mario Edwards.
Eagles DL vs. Browns OL
There was a time when the Browns’ offensive line was one of their biggest strengths, but with injuries and poor play, it’s become one of their weakest links.
This week, they have a tough matchup against a relentless Philly defensive line.
Jalen Carter, Josh Sweat and Bryce Huff seem to be rested and ready to go as the Eagles come off their bye. Carter may benefit the most going up against rookie Zak Zinter in place of the injured Wyatt Teller.
Carter and Sweat have combined for 31 pressures, while the Browns’ offensive line ranks 31st in pressure percentage and 32nd in QB hits allowed.
Deshaun Watson will have to be very cautious in the pocket and may have to rely on his legs a bit more this week, as he has taken the most sacks (26) in the NFL.
Packers DL vs. Cardinals OL/Packers OL vs. Cardinals DL
We could see a big day for the Packers on both sides of the ball. Defensively, the Cardinals will have their hands full as they rank dead last in defensive success rate (51.9%) and drop-back success rate (57.4%).
But they will also have a hard time stopping this Packers defensive line. While the Packers’ defensive line hasn’t put up eye-popping numbers throughout the first five weeks, it is coming off its best performance against the Rams, with 14 pressures.
Now, they have another great matchup and will face multiple backups due to another starting lineman’s absence (Will Hernandez).
If the Packers can contain the run, it could make for a long day for Kyler Murray. The Cardinals’ offensive line ranks 23rd in pass block win rate and 19th in hurries given up.
On the flip side, this Packers’ offensive line will have a massive edge as they have the highest Pro Football Focus (PFF) pass block grade (81.3). The next closest is the Colts at 79.6.
A combination of a clean pocket and a Cardinals pass defense that ranks dead last sets up well for Jordan Love and this offense.
Lions OL vs. Cowboys DL
The Lions’ offensive line should have no problems with this injury-riddled Cowboys defensive line.
Dallas will be without their top pass rushers (DeMarcus Lawrence, Marshawn Kneeland, Micah Parsons). The Lions get All-Pro Frank Ragnow back.
This Detroit offensive line should be able to control the line of scrimmage, giving this Lions run game a considerable boost.
Detroit leads the league in RB touches, which should continue this weekend. I’d expect a big performance from both Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.
