It’s hard to believe, but the 2024-25 National Basketball Association regular season is here. We have two games on tap, with the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics tipping off on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. ET in the front end of a doubleheader on TNT. NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer

NBA DFS Core Plays

Jalen Brunson (PG – NYK)

  • DraftKings: $8,700
  • FanDuel: $8,900

Brunson is the top option on offense for the Knicks, and you’ll want to use him in this marquee game against Boston. The 28-year-old was actually a little more special on the road last season than he was at home, going for 29.5 PPG in 40 games, while posting a slightly higher field-goal percentage (48.2%) and 3-pointer percentage (40.4%). Even his free-throw percentage (85.0%) was better on the road. And, against Boston in 2023-24, he posted 27.4 PPG with 5.4 APG, 2.4 RPG and 1.2 SPG, while hitting 47.7% from the field in five regular-season games.

Karl-Anthony Towns (C – NYK)

  • DraftKings: $7,800
  • FanDuel: $7,900

Towns makes his debut for the Knicks after a surprising offseason trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Normally it isn’t a great idea to load up on a ton of high-priced players from the same team, but we have just two games on tap, so we’ll make the exception. Towns should operate as the second scoring option behind Brunson. The Knicks head into this game with an axe to grind, and a point to prove. This team has real championship aspirations, and if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best, right?

Julius Randle (PF – MIN)

  • DraftKings: $8,000
  • FanDuel: $7,700

Randle was part of the offseason trade which shipped Towns to Gotham. He went to the Twin Cities with Donte DiVincenzo and Keita Bates-Diop, who has since been waived. Randle is the biggest get for the Timberwolves, and he’ll face his original NBA team on Opening Night. In each of his previous four seasons with the Knicks, he went for 20.1 PPG or more points, including three seasons with 24.0 PPG or more points, which is a mark he hit last season. He faced the Lakers just once last season, but he piled up 27 points with 14 rebounds and three assists in 43 minutes, while hitting 12-of-22 from the field.

CTAs

NBA DFS Cash Game Targets

Mike Conley (PG – MIN)

  • DraftKings: $5,500
  • FanDuel: $5,400

It’s hard to believe Conley is 37 years old. It seems like yesterday he was at Ohio State filling it up for the Buckeyes. In each of his past 17 NBA seasons, Conley has averaged double digits in points per game. That’s impressive, and not a lot of people talk about his production. Conley is like that actor or actress in a movie, who fills a role, and does it well, but you don’t necessarily think about them all of the time, if at all. He is just consistent, and that’s a quality DFS players appreciate.

Anthony Edwards (SF/SG – MIN)

  • DraftKings: $8,800
  • FanDuel: $9,400

Edwards was rock solid last season, going from another guy to a potential superstar. The 23-year-old from the University of Georgia averaged 27.6 PPG, 7.0 RPG and 6.5 APG while hitting 48.1% from the field. He was consistent much often than not. On the road, he was slightly better, too, going for nearly a bucket more per game in his 39 regular-season road contests. He basically hit his averages against the Lakers, too, finishing with 27.3 PPG, 5.8 APG and 4.5 RPG with 1.5 BPG and 1.5 SPG in four games against the Lakers.

Rudy Gobert (C – MIN)

  • DraftKings: $6,700
  • FanDuel: $7,800

The “Stifle Tower” rested in the preseason finale, as Luka Garza got a long look instead. That means Gobert is rested and raring to go. He has a favorable matchup against the Lakers. Last season, he was good for at least 13 points and at least 13 rebounds in all three games against Los Angeles.

NBA DFS GPP Targets

Donte DiVincenzo (PG/SG – MIN)

  • DraftKings: $5,100
  • FanDuel: $5,800

The versatile DiVincenzo is a good play in his team debut against Los Angeles. He was a nice addition for the Timberwolves, in addition to Randle. While Minnesota made big strides to championship contender last season, the team felt the need to make a big change. DiVincenzo is always moving on the offensive end, as he seemingly has a motor that doesn’t stop. The 27-year-old joins his fifth team, but he continues to rise. He averaged a career-high 15.5 PPG last season, and he had a career-high 40.1% from behind the 3-point line. He’ll make his presence felt in the opener.

Mikal Bridges (SF/SG – NYK)

  • DraftKings: $6,800
  • FanDuel: $6,200

Speaking of versatility, Bridges is good because he can be plugged in at a multitude of spots. This wasn’t intentional, either, but he is also a Villanova guy like DiVincenzo (above). Bridges was a quick starter last season, going for 20.3 PPG or more in each of his first three months before tailing off a little as the season went along. Take advantage, and use him early in the season when he is fresh. He did struggle a little with his shot last season against the Celtics, hitting just 39.7% from the field in four games, but he was able to post a solid 17.0 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 3.0 APG and 2.5 3PT per game.

Derrick White (SG/PG – BOS)

  • DraftKings: $6,300
  • FanDuel: $6,900

White is a good player who can be plugged into multiple spots, too. The Olympian had a tremendous season for the defending champs, going for 16.7 PPG, 4.3 RPG and 4.1 APG, while hitting 45.2% from the field. He was one of the unsung heroes leading to a banner raising. He was good for 12.0 PPG with 3.4 APG and RPG in five games against the Knicks last season, and he was good for 2.2 3PT per game against New York last season. White is solid, yet unspectacular.

NBA DFS Value Plays

Payton Pritchard (PG/SG – BOS)

  • DraftKings: $4,700
  • FanDuel: $4,100

Pritchard is never going to kill it. He is on a deep team, so he has to make the most of his minutes. But in 41 games at home last season, he had a respectable 11.5 PPG in just 22.6 minutes per game. He might not get the most minutes, but he maximizes his time. He was good for 2.1 3PT per game last season at home.

Terrence Shannon Jr. (SG/SF – MIN)

  • DraftKings: $4,100
  • FanDuel: $3,600

The last time we saw Shannon Jr. was in the NCAA Tournament, as he was leading the University of Illinois on a deep March run. Perhaps I am just wistful, cheering for the kid who brought so much excitement in the college game, but I think he has the real potential to carve out a role for himself quickly in the Twin Cities.

Dalton Knecht (SF – LAL)

  • DraftKings: $3,900
  • FanDuel: $4,100

The rookie from the University of Tennessee is expected to step into the rotation immediately. At this price, he is hard to ignore. Knecht is a fantastic 3-point shooter, and LeBron James has given the former Volunteer his seal of approval for his work ethic and shooting ability. So, what’s better than that for a rookie joining a new team?
