Here’s the plan for this week’s column.
I will start by addressing the fact that I threw my underperforming fantasy WR under the bus in the postgame press conference (it was Brandon Aiyuk). We’re then going to mostly gloss over the fact that I lost a sloppy nailbiter to my fantasy division rival “SeaHawk Tua” in week 6. Then I’m going to surprise everyone by showing off my newly acquired secret weapon.

Who Won & Lost Week 6?
That’s right – from now on, all my fantasy opponents will have to handle improper conversations with Javon Kinlaw.
Fantasy Games Won (FGW)
A quick Fantasy Games Won (FGW) primer:
- FGW is a statistic that converts fantasy points into fantasy wins.
- Players get positive FGW points for outscoring average fantasy starters and negative points for below-average scores.
- A player can score up to +0.5 FGW for increasing your chances of winning from 50% to 100% or down to -0.5 for dropping your chances from 50% to 0%.
- Percent started matters – 0% started throttles your FGW down to 0.
For a longer explanation, check out the 2023 FGW launch on my blog. The stat hasn’t changed since its inception.
Who Won the Week?
# | Player | Pos | Pts | %St | FGW |
1 | Chris Godwin | WR | 30.0 | 95% | 0.33 |
2 | Derrick Henry | RB | 25.2 | 100% | 0.25 |
3 | George Kittle | TE | 20.3 | 100% | 0.24 |
4 | Bijan Robinson | RB | 24.0 | 98% | 0.22 |
5 | Joe Mixon | RB | 26.2 | 68% | 0.18 |
6 | Garrett Wilson | WR | 20.7 | 95% | 0.18 |
7 | A.J. Brown | WR | 20.6 | 93% | 0.17 |
8 | Deebo Samuel | WR | 19.2 | 92% | 0.15 |
9 | Terry McLaurin | WR | 20.3 | 79% | 0.14 |
10 | David Montgomery | RB | 20.5 | 88% | 0.14 |
11 | Jordan Love | QB | 29.6 | 74% | 0.14 |
12 | Breece Hall | RB | 19.4 | 98% | 0.13 |
13 | Pittsburgh | DEF | 13.0 | 100% | 0.12 |
14 | D’Andre Swift | RB | 19.9 | 79% | 0.12 |
15 | Justin Tucker | K | 13.0 | 98% | 0.10 |
- Chris Godwin won the week and ate up all of Mike Evans‘ points in the process. A few more games like this and it will be time to discuss again if Godwin is supplanting Evans as the top WR in Tampa. Not yet, though: this was easily Rod “Chris” Godwin’s best fantasy game since he switched to number 14, and his only 0.30+ FGW week since the start of 2021.
- Derrick Henry is easily the MVP of fantasy football so far this season. He hasn’t been this much better than everyone else since the first half of 2021. Given that he hasn’t fallen off like fellow super-veteran Ezekiel Elliott yet, hopefully, that’s a good sign for Henry’s bodily structural integrity.
- Good George Kittle week: The 49ers won, the geomagnetic storm did not disrupt any power grids during the Thursday Night football game, he finished 19 spots ahead of the next Tight End on the FGW leaderboard (Cole Kmet was 22nd), and he’s still the primary Byron Cobalt doppelganger in the NFL. What a week.
- I can’t decide if Terry McLaurin is still a young receiver that hasn’t entirely hit his potential, or if he should be closing in on the Washington career receiving yards record. (I checked – he’s in 7th at 5,639 yards. If he plays out his current contract, he should at least crack the top 5.)
Who Lost the Week?
# | Player | Pos | Pts | %St | FGW |
15 | Javonte Williams | RB | 3.1 | 52% | -0.11 |
14 | Zack Moss | RB | 0.0 | 42% | -0.12 |
13 | DK Metcalf | WR | 6.3 | 91% | -0.12 |
12 | Jake Ferguson | TE | 2.6 | 88% | -0.12 |
11 | Kyler Murray | QB | 13.0 | 74% | -0.13 |
10 | James Cook | RB | 0.0 | 52% | -0.14 |
9 | Brandon Aiyuk | WR | 4.7 | 89% | -0.14 |
8 | Saquon Barkley | RB | 6.4 | 100% | -0.15 |
7 | Mike Evans | WR | 4.4 | 93% | -0.16 |
6 | DJ Moore | WR | 4.0 | 89% | -0.16 |
5 | James Conner | RB | 4.6 | 89% | -0.17 |
4 | Chris Olave | WR | 0.0 | 75% | -0.19 |
3 | Travis Etienne | RB | 0.0 | 73% | -0.20 |
2 | Marvin Harrison | WR | 0.0 | 93% | -0.23 |
1 | Dak Prescott | QB | 3.2 | 79% | -0.27 |
- Bad weeks like this are fairly common for Dak. This was his 8th game with under 10 fantasy points when started in at least 25% of fantasy leagues since the start of 2021. That’s over a 1/6 chance of a dud each week he gets started.
- Travis Etienne, with the generous rounding here, I could have sworn he was at -0.1 fantasy points.
- James Cook with the brutal Monday Night no-show. He was the FGW RB7 before this week; now he’s down to FGW RB14.
- Saquon either has a big game (week 1, week 3), a terrible game (week 6), or a game that’s just okay (week 2, week 4).
Week 4 Junior Varsity All-Stars
# | Player | Pos | Pts | %St | bFGW |
1 | Sean Tucker | RB | 32.7 | 0% | 0.37 |
2 | Cole Kmet | TE | 21.5 | 35% | 0.17 |
3 | Caleb Williams | QB | 32.6 | 32% | 0.17 |
4 | Allen Lazard | WR | 20.4 | 10% | 0.16 |
5 | Gabe Davis | WR | 19.0 | 0% | 0.15 |
6 | DeMario Douglas | WR | 18.2 | 0% | 0.14 |
7 | Romeo Doubs | WR | 18.4 | 11% | 0.13 |
8 | Baker Mayfield | QB | 29.9 | 35% | 0.12 |
9 | Tyler Allgeier | RB | 19.3 | 12% | 0.12 |
10 | Keenan Allen | WR | 18.6 | 29% | 0.10 |
11 | Jared Goff | QB | 28.1 | 35% | 0.10 |
12 | Tyrone Tracy | RB | 19.7 | 30% | 0.10 |
13 | Joe Mixon | RB | 26.2 | 68% | 0.09 |
14 | Ray Davis | RB | 16.7 | 0% | 0.08 |
15 | Josh Downs | WR | 16.0 | 23% | 0.07 |
- I remember drafting Sean Tucker really late round in a league in 2023. I have no idea how to prove this – the league is on CBS Sports, and I don’t even know where to begin to look for the right link on that Labyrinthian site – but trust me, I did. I just get to take credit for being one of the only fantasy analysts to acknowledge the existence of Sean Tucker before this week.
- Seriously: In recapping Week 6, I had to go back and add Sean Tucker stats into my fantasy database for weeks 1, 2, and 4. Why is that significant? To be missing in a week from my database, you need to have scored 0 points and also be 0% rostered. Not 0% started – 0% rostered.
- Cole Kmet is just happier on your fantasy bench.
- Gabe Davis doing Gabe Davis things again. Be very careful starting Gabe Davis. Last year he averaged 11.2 fantasy points when started less than 20% of the time and only 2.6 when started at 20% or more.
Time to Give ‘Em the Business
Despite everything, Jets/Bills referee Adrian Hill’s looking-the-wrong-way “improper conversation” call probably makes my top 10 referee moments of all time. Ron Cherry’s personal foul call is my number 1. See if you agree – I wholeheartedly recommend a rabbit-hole dive on referee moments.
2024 has been a fantasy football season where a sense of humour can go a long way. We’ve already had 4 weeks where all players across the league combined for more than 3.00 bFGW (the more bFGW, the more points are being scored from fantasy benches). In all of 2023, we only had 6 weeks that crossed the 3.00 bFGW threshold, and only 3 of them came before Week 15.
Before you go having improper conversations with your fantasy starters, remember we’re all going down in this fantasy football ship together. Good luck in Week 7.
