6 Fantasy Football WR/CB Matchups to Know: Week 6 (2024)

With over 35% of the fantasy regular season (if your regular season ends in Week 14) completed, and with injuries piling up, it is time to try and grind out some wins.

Last week there were a few late injury/disciplinary calls that led to a couple of players not playing. However, while the Atlanta Falcons wide receivers did finally show up in the 2024 season and put on a clinic against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the rest of the challenging matchups proved to be the right fade decisions.

This is why it’s important to take in all the matchups and analyze those marginal fantasy start sit decisions managers stress over every Sunday.

Let’s provide some more analysis and break down six fantasy football WR/CB Matchups to know for Week 6.

WR/CB Matchups: Week 6

Advantageous Wide Receiver Matchups

Jayden Reed (WR – GB) vs. Kei’Trel Clark (CB – ARI)

Jayden Reed has a huge plus-matchup this week that can allow him to finish in the top 6-8 of the position in Week 6. Reed has been on fire this season and will potentially have fewer target competition this week due to the injury to Christian Watson and the team issues surrounding Romeo Doubs.

Reed is also managing 0.66 fantasy points per route run, according to Fantasy Points. This is the highest total of any wide receiver playing in Week 6.

He is up against Kei’Trel Clark, who is giving up 0.45 fantasy points per route run against him so far this season. This is the most allowed by a cornerback playing in Week 6. He is also being targeted on 25% of routes run against him. This again, is the most allowed by a cornerback playing in Week 6.

In summary, you have the man with the most fantasy points per route run of any receiver this season up against the corner who is allowing the most fantasy points per route run against him. This simple equation can only lead to one outcome — plenty of fantasy points for Reed.

Tee Higgins (WR – CIN) vs. Deonte Banks (CB – NYG)

Tee Higgins finally got his season up and running last week in a huge shootout loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He can continue that form against the New York Giants.

The Giants are porous against man coverage. According to Fantasy Points, they allow 0.71 fantasy points per dropback when they play man coverage. This is the third-most of any team in the NFL through the first five weeks of the season. That is why they only line up in man 27.9% of the time, the 16th-most in the NFL.

Higgins is 10th in the NFL in targets per route run in man coverage (minimum 30 routes run). He is targeted 32% of the time when running routes vs. man coverage. He is also tied for 14th in win rate. And Higgins has had some tough matchups.

Deonte Banks, on the other hand, is giving up 0.40 fantasy points per route run against him. This is the third-most among cornerbacks playing in Week 6. Banks is also not used to covering the left side. However, due to slot corners Dru Phillips and Adoree Jackson dealing with injuries, there will be a lot of movement and alignment changes among the healthy corners. This could create miscommunication and more opportunities for Higgins and the rest of the Bengals pass-catchers.

Fire up Higgins as a safe WR2 option this week. He does have WR1 upside if he gets significant targets against man coverage.

DJ Moore (WR – CHI) vs. Montaric Brown (CB – JAX)

It would be terrible if I didn’t get to mention a game I will be watching in person in London this Sunday. DJ Moore is coming off a big game last week and will look to continue his fine form in London.

Moore is running routes on 89.3% of snaps, which is the fourth-most of any wide receiver playing this week. Potentially third-most if Davante Adams does not play. He is up against a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that almost allowed a fourth-quarter miracle to Joe Flacco last week.

The Jaguars have allowed the third-most total points in the NFL, averaging almost 29 points allowed per game. They have also allowed 1,439 passing yards in the NFL this season, which is the most of any team. They also allow the second-most total yards in the NFL.

Montaric Brown is allowing 0.39 fantasy points per route run against him. This is the fourth-most of any cornerback playing this week. He is also the fourth-most targeted corner, being targeted on 21.2% of routes run against him.

Expect another tough day for the Jaguars’ defense at the hands of Moore and his fellow Bears pass-catchers.

Other Notable Advantageous Matchups

Challenging Wide Receiver Matchups

Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR – DET) vs. Jourdan Lewis (CB – DAL)

Amon-Ra St. Brown is coming off a bye and is very fresh. While the Dallas Cowboys defense under Mike Zimmer hasn’t been good enough, Jourdan Lewis has been an excellent slot corner so far this season.

Lewis is only allowing 0.14 fantasy points per route run this season. This is the fourth-lowest of any cornerback in the NFL playing this week. The Cowboys are allowing the eighth-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers so far this season. A good amount of these are on big chunk plays.

St. Brown still has the capacity and ceiling to be a WR1 this week. But he will need a high-volume performance to do so

Mike Evans (WR – TB) vs. Marshon Lattimore (CB – NO)

Mike Evans and Marshon Lattimore do not like each other. There are fireworks every time they play. We have seen both players ejected in the past for their behavior towards each other. As nasty rivalries go, this is right up there as one of the most visceral in the NFL.

With that in mind, Lattimore does raise his game. Considering he is only allowing 0.15 fantasy points per game and is only being targeted on 9% of routes run against him, that is a scary thought.

Never count out a future Hall of Famer. Evans has the talent and attitude to overcome. And he has something to prove. However, this is a matchup that is both challenging and box office, in equal measure.

Garrett Wilson (WR – NYJ) vs. Rasul Douglas (CB – BUF)

The New York Jets continue to baffle sports fans with their decision-making and logic. This week they chose to fire head coach Robert Saleh but retain offensive coordinator Nathanial Hackett. However, the most baffling decision they have chosen to make is to defer their bye after playing in London.

That decision appears to be a really poor one, considering they now have a divisional matchup against the Buffalo Bills. And, while the Bills are on a two-game losing streak themselves (the Jets have also lost two straight), they have had far more time to recover and prepare for this game.

Rasul Douglas is only allowing 0.17 fantasy points per route run against him. He is also only being targeted on 10.2% of routes run against him.

Garrett Wilson saw 40% of his targets this season in London last week, and only just managed to scrape 101 yards from them. Take out the stat line from that crazy London game that saw just about every crazy thing imaginable by a team and he is 34-20-191-1 in his other four games.

Unless Wilson is getting 10-13 targets a game, which he hasn’t been until last week, he has to sit in WR3 territory, at best.
