3 Fantasy Football Trades to Propose Week 6 (2024)

J.K. Dobbins (RB – LAC) for Stefon Diggs (WR – HOU)

We mentioned J.K. Dobbins as a trade candidate a couple of weeks ago and he’s done nothing to change that opinion. Ever since Dobbins’ explosive debut for the Chargers, where he totaled 130+ rushing yards in each of the first two weeks of the season, he’s looked downright pedestrian. He totaled 44 yards on the ground in Week 3 and 32 in Week 4. Luckily, the Chargers had a bye in Week 5, or it would have gone down even more.

The fact remains Dobbins is physically broken and is a good bet to break down in a major way sometime soon, especially for as much as the Chargers are riding him. His 56 carries are already the third-highest of his career and puts him on pace for nearly 240 carries, well past his career-high of 134.

Instead, target a receiver who’s about to get a bump in workload and has an elite quarterback behind him. Texans receiver Stefon Diggs was taking a back seat to current Texans stud receiver Nico Collins until the latter was put on injured reserve (IR) this week due to a hamstring injury. Collins will miss a minimum of four weeks, which provides ample opportunity for Diggs to operate as a No. 1 WR again. Houston loves to pass, ranking third in the league with 38 pass attempts per game. And let’s not forget Diggs has a history of being the top receiver — in fantasy leagues and real life — so it’s not like he hasn’t done this before.

He should also be valuable even after Collins returns. Over his last three games, while playing across from Collins, Diggs saw 12, nine and eight targets, respectively. He topped 80+ yards in two of them.

Better to get out from the old running back who is bound to break down and hitch your fantasy playoff hopes to the former/future No. 1 WR on a pass-heavy offense.

CeeDee Lamb (WR – DAL) for Kenneth Walker III (RB – SEA)

This trade would have been viewed as blasphemous before the season. Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb — the top pick in countless fantasy drafts this season — traded for a running back who was in danger of losing his workhorse role and drafted several rounds later? But the first few weeks can change things and this is where we’re at.

For Lamb, his production so far could be viewed as disappointing not only compared to last year but also because of how often Dallas passes. They’re currently second in the league with 38.8 pass attempts per game. Yet, Lamb is averaging a little over 75 yards per game and scored just twice. He’s on pace for just under 1,300 yardsstill very good, but nowhere near the 1,749 yards he totaled last year. Lamb is still a top-15 fantasy receiver this year but not exactly elite.

Meanwhile, Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker looks like a potential league winner. He’s been injured and missed a couple of games but in the weeks he has played, he’s filled the stat sheet. He ran for over 100 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, scored three times in Week 4 while catching four balls for 36 yards and then saw a career-high seven receptions in Week 5 for 57 yards. If you look at average fantasy points per game this season, Walker is a top-five running back and an easy fantasy start sit decision.

The issue with Walker has been his health as he’s missed multiple games in each of his three seasons. But when he plays, Seattle rides him, giving him at least a dozen carries in more than half of their games. And if he can continue to be part of the passing game — he’s averaging five targets per game this season — he could lead Seattle and your fantasy team to the playoffs.

Joe Burrow (QB – CIN) and Jahmyr Gibbs (RB – DET) for Rashid Shaheed (WR – NO) and Brock Bowers (TE – LV)

On the surface, this trade looks lopsided. A team with Joe Burrow and Jahmyr Gibbs would surely be in the driver’s seat for a spot in the fantasy playoffs. So why move them? Because it’s about supply and demand and shoring up a position that is weakened around the league.

Rookie tight end Brock Bowers is currently the top fantasy tight end and a bright spot in a position that has had a down year. And he’s not just having a good year for a tight end. He’s currently leading the Raiders in targets (36), receptions (28) and yards (313). If he were classified as a wide receiver in fantasy leagues, he’d be in the top 10 at that position, too.

Not to be outdone at the position is Saints receiver Rashid Shaheed. Fantasy players made a mistake in assuming Chris Olave was the New Orleans target when it was Shaheed. He leads the team in target (34), yards (338) and touchdowns (three), and is himself a top-10 fantasy receiver so far.

Giving up Burrow and Gibbs may seem like a lot. But for Burrow, you’re not only hoping and praying his body holds up the entire season but other, cheaper options at quarterback can get you most of the same production at a fraction of the cost. Who would have thought quarterbacks like Justin Fields or Sam Darnold would be top-10 fantasy quarterbacks this season? Scour the waiver wire or be on the lookout for a team in your league with too many options at quarterback.

Gibbs, for as much of a dynamic player as he is, won’t be the workhorse anytime soon. He and David Montgomery split the backfield duties. As long as the Lions’ offense is humming along, they will continue to split the backfield workload.
