Fantasy Football Tight End Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 8)

Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season is in the books. Hopefully, your team pulled out the victory. However, the only easy win was last week’s win. So, let’s look at the top streaming tight end options for Week 8.

All the tight ends in this article are rostered in under 55% of ESPN leagues.

Fantasy Football Tight End Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 8)

Zach Ertz (WAS) vs. Chicago Bears (54.9% Rostered)

Ertz’s days as a must-start fantasy football tight end are over. However, the veteran is a top-10 tight end this season, averaging 6.8 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. He has played well lately, averaging four receptions on five targets for 54 receiving yards, 0.5 touchdowns, and 10.4 fantasy points over the past two weeks. Ertz had five or more targets once over the first month. By comparison, he has averaged six targets per game over the past three weeks, totaling five or more in every contest.

Last week, the veteran tight end had his first receiving touchdown and a season-high 12 fantasy points. More importantly, Ertz led the Commanders in route participation (73.9%) and target share (23.8%) while posting a 29% target per route run rate with Marcus Mariota under center in Week 7 (per Fantasy Points Data). Meanwhile, the Bears surrendered 10 receptions for 102 receiving yards and 13.2 fantasy points to Evan Engram in their last matchup. Whether Jayden Daniels or Mariota starts in Week 8, Ertz should be one of their top options.

Hunter Henry (NE) vs. New York Jets (27.4% Rostered)

New England’s passing attack has come to life with Drake Maye under center. Henry struggled with Jacoby Brissett, averaging 3.2 receptions on five targets for 36 receiving yards and 5.2 half-point PPR fantasy points per game, totaling 4.2 or fewer in all but one contest. By comparison, the veteran tight end has averaged 5.5 receptions on seven targets for 66.5 receiving yards and 12.4 fantasy points per game with Maye, scoring 11.6 or more in both starts. More importantly, the rookie quarterback is leaning on Henry.

The veteran hasn’t seen a meaningful increase in target per route run rate. However, Henry’s first-read target share has increased by 8.3% with the quarterback change, going from 13.7% to 22% (per Fantasy Points Data). Meanwhile, the Jets “held” him to 1.9 fantasy points in Week 3 on two targets. However, New York has surrendered 6.5 receptions for 75 receiving yards and 13.8 fantasy points per game to tight ends over the past two weeks. Henry should have his third consecutive double-digit fantasy performance with Maye under center.

Ja’Tavion Sanders (CAR) vs. Denver Broncos (0.4% Rostered)

Let’s dive deep with my final tight end streaming option for Week 8. Sanders had a solid performance in Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons, totaling five receptions on seven targets for 49 receiving yards and 7.4 half-point PPR fantasy points, all career highs. However, he improved on those numbers last week, catching all six targets for 61 receiving yards and 9.1 fantasy points. Sanders finished the game as the team’s highest fantasy-scoring pass catcher. More importantly, the rookie is becoming the No. 2 option in the passing game.

Sanders has 18 targets over the past three weeks, only one fewer than Diontae Johnson. Furthermore, he has 10 more targets than fellow rookie Xavier Legette over the past three games, including twice as many last week. Meanwhile, the Broncos have surrendered 8.9 fantasy points per game to tight ends this season. Last week, Foster Moreau and Juwan Johnson had 56 receiving yards and 8.1 fantasy points against Denver despite catching passes from Spencer Rattler. Don’t be surprised if Sanders has his first career double-digit fantasy performance in Week 8.
