Fantasy Football Roster Trends: Adds, Drops & Most Traded (Week 6)

Fantasy football’s wild start to the season continues as we head into Week 6. A lot of players were on the move across all of the leagues linked on FantasyPros. Some are familiar faces, some are new to this list, but all are volatile in one way or another. If you like risk, these are the guys you are probably already looking for in your leagues. Let’s get into it.

*The percentage beside each player indicates the number of linked FantasyPros leagues where the respective player is among the most added, dropped or traded.

Fantasy Football Roster Trends: Adds, Drops & Most Traded (Week 6)

Most Added

Tank Bigsby (RB – JAX) | 4.8%

Seeing Tank Bigsby atop this most-added list after Week 5 should be no surprise. He finished as the RB1 on the week with 25.9 PPR points thanks to a 101-yard rushing performance. He also had one catch for 28 yards and two touchdowns. Bigsby was the hot hand against the Colts. Will that continue? That’s hard to say. But an RB1 finish isn’t something to be taken lightly. Seeing him added in 4.8% of leagues makes complete sense to me, even if he doesn’t do it again this season.

Jalen Tolbert (WR – DAL) | 4.0%

Week 5 saw an explosion of points at the WR position. Jalen Tolbert was 12th in PPR leagues with 21.7 points. The Cowboys eventually beat the Steelers after a delayed kickoff on Sunday night, and Tolbert was the one who stayed awake the best. He finished with seven catches on 10 targets for 87 yards and a touchdown. Fantasy managers would have likely preferred CeeDee Lamb get that touchdown, but since it went to Tolbert, they’re chasing the points instead. Can Tolbert keep this up now that Brandin Cooks has been sent to injured reserve (IR)? Who knows, but 4% of linked leagues felt like taking the chance.

JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR – KC) | 3.7%

Last on the list of top-added players is a familiar one in JuJu Smith-Schuster. The former Steelers WR put up 20 PPR points in Week 5 against the Saints, catching seven of his eight targets for a whopping 130 yards. Smith-Schuster seemed to be QB Patrick Mahomes‘ favorite target on Monday night. It’s very common to see players who perform well in primetime games get added from the waiver wire the following week. Everyone was watching that game, and Smith-Schuster did not disappoint.

Most Dropped

Rashee Rice (WR – KC) | 2.8%

On the flipside from Smith-Schuster is Rashee Rice, who tops our most dropped list. News broke this week that Rice will likely miss the remainder of the 2024 season with a torn right LCL. Rice was injured during a collision with Mahomes in Week 4. In terms of redraft leagues, he’s likely not worth holding keeping and can be dropped to the waiver wire. With his departure, a lot of fantasy managers are pivoting to the aforementioned Smith-Schuster to pick up the slack. I’m sure the Chiefs expect the same.

Jauan Jennings (WR – SF) | 1.8%

After Week 3, Jennings made the list of most added players. Only one week later, fantasy managers are already giving up and putting him on the most dropped list. Jennings followed his WR1 finish in Week 3 with a mediocre 11.8 PPR points in Week 4 and a pitiful 2.3 PPR points in Week 5. Jennings was a mirage and more of a result of Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey missing time than anything real. I understand dropping him for someone who has more upside at this point.

Dontayvion Wicks (WR – GB) | 1.4%

Like Jennings, Dontayvion Wicks was another player who recently made the most added list. Wicks put up a goose egg in Week 3 but finished as the fantasy WR3 in Week 4. He then came crashing back to earth in Week 5, finishing with a meager four PPR points. This roller coaster is what we see a lot at WR for fantasy. Chasing points can be fun, but ultimately it’s a very risky endeavor. It was risky enough for 1.4% of linked FantasyPros leagues to see someone decide to get off the Wicks ride. I can’t argue with it. Let someone else have a turn and avoid the headache.

Most Traded

Breece Hall (RB – NYJ) | 1.3%

There’s no other way to say it: Breece Hall doesn’t look right. He did well in Weeks 1 through 3, but Week 4 saw a severe downturn in his production. Week 5 wasn’t much better where Hall finished as the fantasy RB39 overall. In dynasty, he’s got tons of value, so maybe that’s why some people are trading for him. In redraft, his outlook is a little shakier. Perhaps the firing of head coach Robert Saleh is giving people hope. Perhaps it’s the fact Hall can’t be this bad forever. Either way, for him to be traded in 1.3% of leagues both parties need to agree. If you’re selling, someone has to be buying, and this feels like a great chance to buy low on a potential top-10 RB.

Tyreek Hill (WR – MIA) | 1.2%

Tyreek Hill makes the most traded list again as his future production remains cloudy. Even if QB Tua Tagovailoa returns, will Hill return to the stud WR he was promised to be? No one knows, but getting 10 targets in Week 5 with backup QB Tyler Huntley is a good sign. Seeing him moved in 1.2% of leagues means that at least someone sees his future value. It also means someone else is ready to move off of him for another asset. Hopefully, they got someone more consistent in return since it’s hard to get someone with a larger range of outcomes at the moment.

Tank Dell (WR – HOU) | 1.2%

Tied with Hill at 1.2% traded is Tank Dell, who just saw his teammate and fellow WR Nico Collins head to IR. Dell should see a boost in output from this, but maybe it’ll be Stefon Diggs who steps up instead. As of right now, it’s uncertain, and that uncertainty is likely what’s causing him to be traded. I like the idea of adding Dell if I need more upside but I will then have to accept that he comes with risk. If I’m moving off of him, I’d want a prime asset in return. Either way, seeing him make this list after Week 5 makes sense to me.
