Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 8)

Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season is in the books. Hopefully, your team pulled out the victory. However, the only easy win was last week’s win. So, let’s look at the top streaming quarterback options for Week 8.

All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN 1QB leagues and under 25% in superflex leagues.

Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 8)

Streaming Targets in 1QB Leagues

Sam Darnold (MIN) vs. Los Angeles Rams (45.3% Rostered)

The last time we saw Darnold, he had two turnovers and a season-low 4.3 fantasy points against the New York Jets in London. Thankfully, the veteran bounced back last week, completing 81.5% of his pass attempts for 259 yards, a touchdown, and 16.3 fantasy points against the Detroit Lions, totaling four rushing attempts for a season-high 39 yards on the ground. Darnold has averaged 2.4 passing touchdowns and 18.9 fantasy points per game in the five non-Jets matchups. He has a low-end QB1 floor for the rest of the year.

Last week, Aidan O’Connell (2.1) and Gardner Minshew (-1.6) had awful fantasy performances against the Rams. However, the Las Vegas Raiders have the worst quarterback situation in the NFL. Meanwhile, Los Angeles had surrendered 18.1 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the first six weeks, the 10th-most in the NFL. They gave up two or more passing touchdowns in three of their last four games before the matchup against the Raiders. Don’t be surprised if Darnold has another three-passing touchdown performance on Thursday night.

Tua Tagovailoa (MIA) vs. Arizona Cardinals (26.5% Rostered)

Hopefully, Tagovailoa returns in Week 8 after spending the past four games on injured reserve because of a concussion. The star quarterback said he will practice this week and is aiming to start on Sunday against the Cardinals. Tagovailoa had 338 passing yards, a touchdown, and 18.6 fantasy points in his only healthy game this season. While there are no teams on a bye in Week 8, fantasy players should make the former Alabama star their top waiver wire priority if they need help at the quarterback position.

Tagovailoa has top-10 appeal for the rest of the year, including top-five upside in Week 8. Arizona surrendered 19.2 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks heading into the Week 7 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, the fourth-most over the first six weeks. They gave up 24 or more fantasy points to quarterbacks in half of those six games, including a four-passing touchdown performance to Jordan Love in Week 6. Miami’s passing attack will get back on track with Tagovailoa under center, starting with the matchup against the Cardinals.

Streaming Targets in Superflex Leagues

Matthew Stafford (LAR) vs. Minnesota Vikings (19.7% Rostered)

Head coach Sean McVay told the media Sunday that he expects Cooper Kupp to play in Week 8 against the Vikings after missing four games with a high-ankle sprain. Thankfully, that means Stafford’s fantasy struggles should come to an end. The veteran quarterback has averaged only 8.1 fantasy points per game since Week 1, totaling 6.6 or fewer in 60% of the contests. However, Stafford was unbelievable late last year, averaging 2.8 passing touchdowns and 21.9 fantasy points per game from Week 12 through Week 16 with Kupp healthy.

Furthermore, there is a chance that Puka Nacua (knee) could play for the first time since Week 1. Meanwhile, Minnesota has struggled to slow down quarterbacks lately after having an elite pass defense earlier this season. They have allowed quarterbacks to average 304.3 passing yards, 2.7 touchdowns, and 19.6 fantasy points per game over their past three matchups, giving up 18.8 or more fantasy points twice, including to Jared Goff in Week 7. This game has the third-highest total this week. Therefore, expect plenty of fantasy points from both quarterbacks.

Bo Nix (DEN) vs. Carolina Panthers (16.1% Rostered)

While the Broncos’ passing attack has been hit or miss, the rookie quarterback has been surprisingly good for fantasy players lately. Nix has averaged 19.3 fantasy points per game over the past three weeks, totaling 20.7 or more twice. Furthermore, he has scored 19.3 or more fantasy points in three of his past five games despite totaling only five passing touchdowns in those contests. Nix has been outstanding rushing this season, averaging 6.7 rushing attempts for 36.4 yards, 0.43 touchdowns, and 6.2 fantasy points per game on the ground.

Last week, the former Oregon star had 10 rushing attempts for 75 yards, both career highs. More importantly, Nix has an outstanding matchup on Sunday. The Panthers gave up 19.6 fantasy points to Marcus Mariota last week following Jayden Daniels‘ exit from the game because of a rib injury after totaling 50 rushing yards and 5.2 fantasy points on 10 snaps. Carolina surrendered 84 rushing yards to the Washington Commanders quarterbacks. Furthermore, they have given up 23.2 or more fantasy points to quarterbacks in two of the past three weeks.

Streamer to Avoid

Daniel Jones (NYG) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (20.1% Rostered)

Typically, streaming articles provide which players to target off the waiver wire. However, I will give one quarterback that fantasy players should avoid streaming each week.

Jones has an awful Week 1 performance, totaling 4.9 fantasy points. However, he was the QB12 from Week 2 through Week 5, averaging 17.6 fantasy points per game despite Malik Nabers missing time because of a concussion. Unfortunately, Jones has turned back into a pumpkin, totaling 304 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and 17.8 fantasy points per game over the past two weeks. Furthermore, the veteran quarterback got benched in Week 7. However, head coach Brian Daboll said Jones will remain the Giants’ starting quarterback despite the benching.

The veteran has played significantly better on the road than at home. He has averaged 20 fantasy points per game on the road compared to 8.1 at home this season. However, fantasy players shouldn’t expect much from Jones in Week 8 on the road against an elite Steelers defense. Pittsburgh has held quarterbacks to 12.2 fantasy points per game, one of the lowest averages in the NFL. The Steelers will get consistent pressure on Jones, making his life miserable Monday night with Andrew Thomas done for the year.
