Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 7)

Week 6 of the 2024 NFL season is in the books. Hopefully, your team pulled out the victory. However, the only easy win was last week’s win. So, let’s look at the top streaming quarterback options for Week 7.

All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN 1QB leagues and under 25% in superflex leagues.

Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 7)

Streaming Targets in 1QB Leagues

Sam Darnold (MIN) vs. Detroit Lions (45.5% Rostered)

Darnold has been outstanding this season, averaging 16.5 fantasy points per game. The former USC star had at least two passing touchdowns in his first four games, averaging 2.8 per contest. Furthermore, he was the QB3 from Week 2 through Week 4, averaging three passing touchdowns and 21.9 fantasy points per game despite facing three talented defenses. Unfortunately, Darnold had an awful performance before the Vikings’ bye week, totaling 179 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and 4.3 fantasy points against the New York Jets in Week 5.

However, the veteran’s performance was impacted by multiple penalties by the Jets’ secondary. Darnold had limited touchdown opportunities because of the penalties. Thankfully, that was a fluke, meaning he should bounce back this week against the Lions. Dak Prescott had an awful performance against Detroit in Week 6, with the Dallas Cowboys offense struggling. Yet, the Lions had surrendered 18.4 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over their previous three contests. Meanwhile, T.J. Hockenson (knee) could make his season debut against his former team, improving Darnold’s supporting cast.

Trevor Lawrence (JAC) vs. New England Patriots (32.4% Rostered)

Last week, I wrongly listed Lawrence as the quarterback who fantasy players needed to avoid streaming. However, he played well against an elite Chicago Bears defense, completing 65.7% of his pass attempts for 234 yards, two touchdowns, and 17.1 fantasy points. More importantly, the veteran quarterback has had at least two passing touchdowns in three consecutive games after totaling only two over the first three weeks. Furthermore, Lawrence has scored 17 or more fantasy points in back-to-back games after averaging 12.2 fantasy points per game over the first month.

While the Patriots’ defense was once one that fantasy players avoided at all costs, that isn’t the case in 2024. New England “held” Tyler Huntley to 194 passing yards and 6.5 fantasy points in Week 5. However, they have struggled with every other quarterback since opening weekend. Over the past five weeks, the Patriots have surrendered 272 passing yards, 1.8 touchdowns, and 18 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks not named Huntley. Lawrence should have at least 17 fantasy points for the second consecutive week in London.

Streaming Targets in Superflex Leagues

Andy Dalton (CAR) vs. Washington Commanders (6.1% Rostered)

The veteran quarterback had a bounce-back performance last week after struggling against the Chicago Bears in Week 5. Dalton completed 68.4% of his pass attempts for 221 yards, two touchdowns, and 14.9 fantasy points against a talented Atlanta Falcons defense. Unfortunately, a pair of interceptions impacted his fantasy performance. However, Dalton provided some upside with his legs, totaling 21 rushing yards, his highest total since Week 2 of the 2021 season. More importantly, the former TCU star has an appealing matchup on Sunday against the Commanders.

Washington’s defense was a fantasy football goldmine for passing attacks in 2023. While they have been better this year, the Commanders are still a fantasy-friendly matchup. They have surrendered 2.2 passing touchdowns and 20.4 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks not named Deshaun Watson, giving up at least two touchdowns and 18.3 fantasy points in all but one contest. Last week, Lamar Jackson had 323 passing yards on only 26 attempts. Washington’s offense should pick apart Carolina’s defense, leading to plenty of opportunities for Dalton to rack up fantasy points.

Drake Maye (NE) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (3.8% Rostered)

Many had low expectations for Maye in his first career start against a talented Houston Texans defense. However, the rookie quarterback surprised everyone. The former UNC star made some rookie mistakes, totaling three turnovers. Yet, he had 243 yards, three touchdowns, and 19.5 fantasy points on 33 pass attempts. Maye’s three passing touchdowns last week was one more than Jacoby Brissett had in five games. More importantly, the rookie’s 243 passing yards were the most allowed, while his three touchdowns were the second-most allowed by the Texans this season.

Maye should continue to play well for fantasy players in Week 7 against the Jaguars in London. Jacksonville has surrendered 24 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, the most in the NFL. Last week, Caleb Williams completed 79.3% of his pass attempts for 226 yards, four touchdowns, and 28.6 fantasy points against them. More importantly, the Jaguars have given up 299 passing yards, 3.3 touchdowns, and 27.4 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the past four weeks, surrendering at least two touchdowns and 23.5 fantasy points in every contest.

Streamer to Avoid

Spencer Rattler (NO) vs. Denver Broncos (2.5% Rostered)

Typically, streaming articles provide which players to target off the waiver wire. However, I will give one quarterback that fantasy players should avoid streaming each week.

Unfortunately, Derek Carr will miss multiple weeks because of an oblique injury. Rattler made his first career NFL start in Week 6 against a fantasy-friendly Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense. The NFC South reigning champions had surrendered 21.4 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the first five weeks, the second-most in the league. However, the rookie quarterback couldn’t take advantage of the matchup, completing only 55% of his pass attempts for 243 yards, a touchdown, and 12.4 fantasy points, totaling three turnovers in the loss to the Buccaneers.

The Saints lost Chris Olave early in Week 6 to a concussion. Unfortunately, they face the Broncos on Thursday night, giving Olave little chance of playing this week. More importantly, the matchup is one fantasy players should avoid at all costs. Denver has held quarterbacks to only 12.1 fantasy points per game, one of the lowest averages in the NFL. Furthermore, they have given up only five passing touchdowns to quarterbacks, surrendering one or fewer in every game. Rattle should be the lowest quarterback in Week 7 fantasy rankings.
