Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 6)

Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season is in the books. Hopefully, your team pulled out the victory. However, the only easy win was last week’s win. So, let’s look at the top streaming quarterback options for Week 6.

All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN 1QB leagues and under 25% in superflex leagues.

Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 6)

Streaming Targets in 1QB Leagues

Kirk Cousins (ATL) vs. Carolina Panthers (45.1% Rostered)

Raise your hand if you predicted Cousins would have the first 500-yard passing game this season. Now, put it down because you’re lying. The veteran quarterback hasn’t had the best start to the year, averaging one passing touchdown and 10.6 fantasy points per game over the first month. However, he was unbelievable in Week 5, completing 72.4% of his pass attempts for four touchdowns, including the game-winner, and 34.4 fantasy points, all season-highs. By comparison, Cousins had 42.4 total fantasy points over the first four games.

While fantasy players shouldn’t expect him to have another four-touchdown performance, the veteran quarterback has top-five upside this week against the Panthers. Carolina has surrendered 232.4 passing yards, 2.2 touchdowns, and 18.7 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season, some of the highest averages in the NFL. Last week, Caleb Williams ripped them apart despite the backfield having three touchdowns in the blowout win. The rookie star completed 69% of his pass attempts for 304 yards, two touchdowns, and a career-high 23.6 fantasy points.

Caleb Williams (CHI) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (44.7% Rostered)

Speaking of Williams, the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft has played well after a rocky start to his rookie season. He completed 56.1% of his 66 pass attempts for 267 yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions, and 14.6 fantasy points over the first two weeks. However, the former USC star has been significantly better the past three weeks, completing 67.3% of his 104 pass attempts for 274.7 yards, 1.7 touchdowns, and 17.5 fantasy points per game, totaling two touchdowns and 17.3 or more fantasy points in two matchups.

Last week, Joe Flacco made his first start of the season. The nearly 40-year-old quarterback had no problem making the Jacksonville defense look foolish, including on the ground, totaling 22 rushing yards on three attempts. More importantly, he picked apart their awful secondary, completing 75% of his pass attempts for 359 yards, three touchdowns, and 26.6 fantasy points, averaging 0.55 fantasy points per attempt. The Jaguars have surrendered 27 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the past three weeks, giving up 23.5 or more in every contest.

Streaming Targets in Superflex Leagues

Daniel Jones (NYG) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (13.9% Rostered)

Many, including myself, had no interest in streaming Jones in Week 5, with Malik Nabers unable to play because of a concussion. Yet, he had his best game this season, totaling 257 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 22.1 fantasy points. Furthermore, the veteran had his best outing on the ground, with 11 rushing attempts for 38 yards. More importantly, Jones has played well since Week 1. He has had two passing touchdowns and at least 18.3 fantasy points in three of the past four games.

Hopefully, Nabers can return to the lineup this week, with Jones facing a Bengals’ defense that has gotten obliterated by quarterbacks lately. They have surrendered 274 passing yards, 2.7 touchdowns, and 25.7 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the past three weeks, giving up 28.1 or more twice. Last week, Lamar Jackson had 348 passing yards and four touchdowns against Cincinnati, scoring 29.9 fantasy points with his arm. While Jones won’t score 30 fantasy points Sunday night, he should have his second consecutive game with 20 or more.

Andy Dalton (CAR) vs. Atlanta Falcons (8.3% Rostered)

Dalton was my streamer to avoid in Week 5. Hopefully, fantasy players listened, as the veteran quarterback was awful against his former team. He had only 136 passing yards, zero touchdowns, one interception, and 3.7 fantasy points against the Chicago Bears. However, Dalton is an appealing QB2 option for fantasy players in superflex leagues in Week 6. The former TCU star completed 66.2% of his pass attempts for 269.5 yards, 2.5 touchdowns, and 20.1 fantasy points per game over his first two starts, averaging 0.52 fantasy points per attempt.

Meanwhile, the Falcons have played well on defense this season. Atlanta gave up 15.1 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the first month, slightly above the league average. However, they had no answers for Baker Mayfield in Week 5. The former No. 1 NFL Draft pick had only 24 pass attempts. Yet, he completed 79.2% of them for 180 yards, three touchdowns, and 23.4 fantasy points. Mayfield also had six rushing attempts for 42 yards in the loss. After struggling last week, expect a bounce-back performance from Dalton.

Streamer to Avoid

Trevor Lawrence (JAX) vs. Chicago Bears (33.3% Rostered)

Typically, streaming articles provide which players to target off the waiver wire. However, I will give one quarterback that fantasy players should avoid streaming each week.

Fantasy players who needed a last-minute replacement at the quarterback position in Week 5 should have added Lawrence off the waiver wire. The former Clemson star had his best game this year, completing 82.4% of his pass attempts for 371 yards, two touchdowns, and 21.2 fantasy points. However, he did that against an awful Indianapolis Colts defense. By comparison, Lawrence averaged 182.3 passing yards, one touchdown, and 12.2 fantasy points per game over the first four weeks. More importantly, he has an awful matchup in Week 6.

The former Clemson star faces an elite Bears defense in London. They contained Andy Dalton and Bryce Young to 194 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and 6.9 fantasy points last week. Chicago has held quarterbacks to only 194.4 passing yards per game this season. Furthermore, quarterbacks haven’t had a passing touchdown against the Bears since Week 2, totaling only two this year. They have held quarterbacks to only 7.6 fantasy points per game, with C.J. Stroud (14.3) being the only one to total more than 6.7 against this elite defense.
