5 Stats to Know Before Setting Your Week 6 Lineup (2024 Fantasy Football)

Week 6 is here, and we have built a trend in the statistical arena to help us identify the correct players to lean into, the right defenses to target because of their weaknesses and which players to avoid due to the analytical story around their matchup. Today, we are going to guide you through multiple stats that will help you identify the right plays for your Week 6 fantasy roster.

Compete in the Over/Under Challenge with Colin Cowherd

Tank Bigsby (RB – JAC) is Here To Stay!

Tank Bigsby has been ruining the Travis Etienne hype train. However, Bigsby does not care, as he has finally achieved his potential in the Jaguars’ backfield. Bigsby has been exceptionally strong in man/gap concepts and is used 68% of the time in these concepts.

This week, the Jaguars face the Chicago Bears, who have been struggling with their run defense in this concept. In zone runs, the Bears only allow 4.2 yards per carry and a 42% success rate. However, in the man/gap concept, the Bears allow 5.7 yards per carry while allowing this concept to be successful over 50% of the time!

If you are struggling with running backs due to injuries or byes, Bigsby can help you deliver a victory and survive in Week 6.

Calvin Ridley (WR – TEN) Week

The Indianapolis Colts defense is one of the league’s worst units, especially against perimeter wide receivers. We watched players like George Pickens record seven receptions and over 100 receiving yards. Rome Odunze hauled in six receptions for over 100 yards (with a touchdown). Nico Collins and Brian Thomas Jr. also broke the century mark for their respective teams against this defense.

This week, the Colts face off against the Tennessee Titans, which, if this trend continues, means Calvin Ridley will have a productive fantasy week. Don’t sit your Titans wide receiver in Week 6.

Buns Out!

A new statistic sweeping the NFL world is the A.S.S. Score, also known as the average separation score. Most people would assume players like Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase would lead the charge. However, the leader will surprise you.

The leader is Adonai Mitchell. The rookie Colts wide receiver has a score of .323, leading the league. This week, Michael Pittman and possibly Josh Downs will miss time. The Colts need to lean on their rookie wide receiver to create this separation to help their inaccurate young quarterback, Anthony Richardson.

If the bye week hurts your depth, Mitchell is a sneaky piece that can be added to your fantasy line to help you dominate your opponent.

I Only Have Eyes For You

Aaron Rodgers has been a quarterback who, once he falls in love with your game, will trust you until the end. This year is no different when the New York Jets enter the red zone. Rodgers gives Garrett Wilson a 37.5% target share in the red zone. Wilson is followed closely by Rodgers’ long-time friend, Allen Lazard, who recorded a 33.3% target share in the red zone.

Wilson will always start in your fantasy lineups, but Lazard is a great bye-week replacement who will see the valuable targets that you need from a depth piece inserted into your lineup to help lead you to victory.

Ps. The next highest player is Tyler Conklin…. at 8.3% target share. Rodgers is predictable with who he uses in the red zone, and we need to take advantage of this trend on Monday night versus the Buffalo Bills.

Your Time is Up; My Time is Now!

Brian Thomas Jr. has taken the league by storm for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has taken the lead wide receiver role on his shoulder and (no pun intended) ran with it. His first-read target share has elevated to crazy levels. In Week 1, Thomas recorded a 25% first-read target share. We became disappointed in Week 2 when his number dropped to 17.4%. Since then, he has recorded 22.4% in Week 3 and 33.3% in Week 4.

His talent is undeniable, and his speed is a mismatch for defenders, regardless of who plays. At this point in the season, if you have Thomas Jr. on your fantasy team, you need to start him weekly.

The Bears aren’t an easy passing defense to beat, but they aren’t world-beaters either. Thomas Jr. should be able to utilize his speed to create separation and fantasy points for our fantasy football teams.

As we head into Week 6, remember that fantasy football is about balancing gut instinct with the data. The stats can point you in the right direction, but don’t be afraid to trust your judgment when setting your lineups. A player’s past performance is a strong indicator, but factors like matchups, injuries, and game flow can shift things unexpectedly. This week’s data should give you a solid foundation to make the best possible decisions, but as always, fantasy football is a game of probabilities, not certainties.

Whether you’re eyeing a breakout star from the waiver wire, deciding which flex option to roll with, or considering a brutal trade, staying informed gives you the upper hand. A few extra minutes spent diving into these stats could make the difference between securing a win or leaving points on the bench. Remember to stay updated on late-week injury reports and other news that could impact game-time decisions.
