3 Fantasy Football Trades to Propose

Rachaad White (RB – TB) for DeAndre Hopkins (WR – KC)

It was an eventful week regarding off-the-field news that will affect your fantasy team. Let’s start with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who lost, not one but, two starting receivers to injury in Week Seven. Chris Godwin dislocated his ankle and will be lost for the season while Mike Evans injured his hamstring which will leave him out for a few games. Couple that with the emergence of Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker in the backfield and you have a host of new contributors in Tampa Bay.

One of the holdovers, Rachaad White, is still the starter and actually should slightly benefit from the rash of injuries. While he didn’t see that many more carries than Irving or Tucker, he did lead the backfield in targets, receptions, yards, and even scored twice. It could be a sign of things to come that if Tampa is playing from behind more without their star receivers, White would see an uptick in touches. At least, that’s how you’ll sell it to the team you’re trading him to.

On the flip side, former Titans receiver DeAndre Hopkins was graciously traded away from that dumpster fire to Kansas City where he will play with the greatest quarterback of this generation. It’ll be a breath of fresh air for both Hopkins and the Chiefs. For Kansas City, not only have they yet to find a suitable replacement for Tyreek Hill after years of trying, but the players they did bring in have all gotten hurt from Marquise Brown to JuJu Smith-Schuster. Hopkins will be a reliable set of hands for an offense that needs a veteran presence.

For Hopkins, it would be silly to assume he could produce WR1 numbers like he did earlier in his career in Houston and Arizona. But in his last healthy season – last season in Tennessee – he did eclipse 1,000 yards again and was a top-20 fantasy receiver. That should be the goal this year playing alongside Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Jakobi Meyers (WR – LV) for Nick Chubb (RB – CLE)

It’s been a long road back for Browns running back Nick Chubb but that persistence is about to pay off for him, Cleveland and his fantasy managers that have held onto him this long. Chubb returned to action in Week Seven after suffering a major knee injury in Week Two last season and immediately looked like the starter again. He dominated the number of carries (it was only 11 due to the negative game script) and saw three targets, totaling 32 yards on 12 touches and scoring a touchdown.

But make no mistake, Chubb will lead the rushing attack going forward and his timing is impeccable. The Browns offense has been stuttering all season with quarterback Deshaun Watson under center. That’s going to change this week after Watson suffered his own major injury that will now keep him out of the rest of the season. In his place is Jameis Winston who, while turning over the ball a lot, can also get an offense to score in bunches too. And let’s not forget what the Browns did last season when Waston was out and Joe Flacco was under center. Cleveland made the playoffs. They also finished in the top-five in rushing attempts which is a good sign for Chubb. Don’t expect Chubb to be the RB1 he was before but he will be a starter on a decent offense which is needed this time of year with the injury bug coming for everybody.

In exchange, you can offer a WR1 on a team that is sure to be behind plenty of times this season. Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers is now the top target thanks to the Devante Adams trade and should see plenty of targets down the stretch. Meyers was already seeing a lot of attention, notching at least nine targets in each of his last three games before an injury kept him out of a couple of contests. He’s a volume-depending receiver which you should want to swap in place of a former RB1 who will be leading the rushing attack on a rejuvenating offense.

Patrick Mahomes II (QB – KC) and Tank Dell (WR – HOU) for Najee Harris (RB – PIT) and Hunter Henry (TE – NE)

If you were a team that started the year out with Patrick Mahomes II and Tank Dell instead of Najee Harris and Hunter Henry, you’d think you were in prime position for the fantasy playoffs. After all, Mahomes has been a QB1 in every year he’s been a starter for the Chiefs. And Tank Dell is coming off a rookie season where he was on pace for a 1,000-yard season and scored seven times before an injury kept him out of nearly half the season.

Yet, that’s not what their respective managers got this year. Mahomes has been downright pedestrian, averaging a career-low 231 yards per game with just six touchdowns. Dell is averaging less than 10 yards per reception and has yet to eclipse 200 receiving yards in six games this season.

Meanwhile, Najee Harris of the Steelers is starting to heat up. He’s run for 100 yards and a touchdown in each of his last two games, the last of which was with new starter Russell Wilson at quarterback. And Henry is playing like a TE1 again, something he hasn’t done since 2021. In the two games rookie quarterback Drake Maye has started, Henry has either scored a touchdown or topped 90-plus receiving yards. If the rapport with Maye can continue, Henry can be one of the few valuable fantasy tight ends this season.
