Week 4 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2024 Fantasy Football)

Week 4 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2024 Fantasy Football)

Week 3 is now in the books. There are numerous storylines to track, but perhaps the most significant is the overlooked IDP players who showed out in Week 3. There were a lot of defensive fireworks in Week 3, so there are more than a few intriguing names on the waiver wire in leagues of all sizes. Let’s take a look at some of the names that may be worth some of your free agent budget.

Week 4 IDP Waiver Wire

Linebacker

Daiyan Henley (LB – LAC): 1% rostered at Yahoo
Henley has looked better in each of his three weeks as a starter and has forced his way into the top-30 conversation. He tallied nine solos, three assists, one tackle for loss, and one pass defended against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He can be deployed as an LB2 based on his production thus far, but it is probably better to treat him as an LB3 for Week 4 against Kansas City before he enters the LB2 discussion once he comes off bye in Week 6. Henley needs to be rostered in all competitive leagues.

Kenneth Murray (LB – TEN): 5% rostered at Yahoo
Kenneth Murray went off against Malik Willis and the Green Bay Packers, tallying five solos, three assists, two sacks, and one tackle for loss. He has always had pass rush juice, which is part of the reason he remained on the dynasty radar even when he was toiling on the Chargers’ depth chart in previous seasons. Ernest Jones is the everydown linebacker for Tennessee, but the Titans utilize two LB sets frequently enough for Murray to be considered a 90 percent snap player based on his usage thus far. Tap him as an upside LB3 option for a tasty Week 4 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

Troy Andersen (LB – ATL): 2% rostered at Yahoo
Andersen played nearly every snap for the second week in a row and should be on IDP radars for as long as Nate Landman (quad/calf) remains on IR. He has recorded at least five solos in every game of the season, putting his most productive game together on Sunday night when he tallied seven solos and five assists against the Kansas City Chiefs. Andersen has proven he can produce at a consistent LB3 level given the requisite snaps, which is something he will have for at least the next two weeks. Andersen is a priority add in in deep leagues with the byes coming and is still a worthwhile target in shallower formats for those dealing with players underperforming relative to expectations.

Jahlani Tavai (LB – NE): 2% rostered at Yahoo
Tavai was solid in Week 3, recording six solos, four assists, and one tackle for loss. He has stepped into the full-time role with Ja’Whaun Bentley lost for the season and should be a productive LB3 who can serve as an LB2 during the heavy byes. Tap him as an LB3 option for a plus Week 4 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Troy Reeder (LB – LAR): 4% rostered at Yahoo
Reeder was at it again in Week 3, racking up six solos, four assists, and one tackle for loss. He has had at least four solos and eight total tackles in each of his starts this season and should continue to produce with Omar Speights a non-factor. Fire him up as an LB3 for a plus Week 4 matchup against the Chicago Bears. Add and start Reeder where needed.

Defensive Line

Jonathan Greenard (DE/LB – MIN): 3% rostered at Yahoo
Greenard went off in Week 3, racking up three solos, one assist, three sacks, and three tackles for loss. He is up to four sacks on the season and has helped fill the massive void left by the departure of All-Pro Danielle Hunter. He is and has been a borderline DL1, so he should be rostered in all competitive leagues and is a priority target with the byes coming. He is not always active as a run stopper, so there will be some peaks and valleys, but this is true for most edge rushers. Add and start Greenard everywhere as an elite DL2 for Week 4 and beyond.

Kyle Van Noy (DE/LB – BAL): 0% rostered at Yahoo
Van Noy added another two sacks in Week 3, finishing the afternoon with two solos, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and one pass defended. He is up to four sacks with all of them coming in the past two outings. KVN would usually be viewed as a bye week/depth piece, but four sacks in two weeks makes him starter-worthy in deeper formats. Add and start him as a DL3/4 where needed for a plus Week 4 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

Byron Young (DE/LB – LAR): 2% rostered at Yahoo
Young was solid in Week 3, tallying two solos, two assists, one sack, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one pass defended. Young has ‘just’ two sacks on the season but is adjusting to being the focus of opposing offensive lines due to the retirement of Aaron Donald. Young established himself as a DL2 option last season and will continue to ascend as long as he keeps getting to the quarterback. Tap him as a top-25 option for an excellent Week 4 matchup against the Chicago Bears. Add and start him wherever possible.

Brian Burns (DE/LB – NYG): 3% rostered at Yahoo
Burns showed up in Week 3, registering two solos, one assist, one sack, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, and two passes defended. The sack was his first in a Giants uniform and is a welcomed sign after he failed to get to the QB despite two plus matchups to open the season. It has been a slow start for Burns, but he remains a strong DL2 option who will likely be a matchup-based DL1 during the byes. Burns should be rostered in all competitive leagues, regardless of his archaic positional designation on Yahoo (he will be DE-eligible soon). Make the add wherever available.

Boye Mafe (DE/LB – SEA): 1% rostered at Yahoo
Mafe extended his sack streak to three games against the Dolphins, racking up three solos, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one pass defended. Mafe had nine sacks last season and appears to be well on his way to cracking double digits this season. If he can stay consistent, he can quickly become one of the league’s premier pass rushers, something he has already shown flashes of in the past. Treat Mafe as a DL2 for Week 4 against the Detroit Lions.

Defensive Back

Tyrann Mathieu (S – NO): 5% rostered at Yahoo
Tyrann shined again for the Saints, this time racking up seven solos, one tackle for loss, one interception, and one pass defended. The Honey Badger is locked in as a DB2 going forward and should be treated as such for a plus Week 4 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Tyrann should be rostered in all competitive leagues.

Damar Hamlin (S – BUF): 0% rostered at Yahoo
Hamlin was excellent in Week 3, tallying three solos, two assists, one interception, and two passes defended. The solos have been inconsistent (he had eight in Week 2), but Damar has still been producing at a low-end DB3 level and shows no signs of relinquishing the starting role to rookie Cole Bishop. Hamlin should be rostered as a DB3/bye week filler option with an eye on starting him for Week 4, thanks to a plus matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Hamlin should not want for tackle opportunities against Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, and co.

Jason Pinnock (S – NYG): 1% rostered at Yahoo
Pinnock continues to produce for IDP managers, tallying two solos, five assists, one sack, and one tackle for loss against the Cleveland Browns. The solo count remains inconsistent, but Pinnock is the DB7 through three weeks of action due to back-to-back splash weeks. Tap Pinnock as a borderline DB2 for Week 4, thanks to a plus matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Add and start Pinnock everywhere.

Bryan Cook (S – KC): 0% rostered at Yahoo
Cook has been surprisingly consistent through three weeks of action, most recently recording six solos, two assists, and one pass defended. He has posted at least four solos in each of his games thus far and has been outproducing notable names like Camryn Bynum, Kyle Hamilton, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Add Cook as a DB3/bye week filler who you can start in Week 4, thanks to a plus matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Add and start Cook where needed.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson (S – DET): 1% rostered at Yahoo
CJGJ showed up in Week 3, racking up five solos, three assists, and one pass defended. He has been a disappointment in IDP land through three weeks of the season, posting three or fewer solos in each of his previous two weeks. He has proven DB1 upside and should be rostered in all competitive leagues with the byes approaching. Tap him as a low-end DB2 option until he starts to heat up. Add and start him where needed.
