Week 2 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2024 Fantasy Football)

Week 2 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2024 Fantasy Football)

Week 1 is now in the books. There are numerous storylines to track, but perhaps the most significant is the overlooked IDP players who showed out in Week 1. There were a lot of defensive fireworks in Week 1, so there are more than a few intriguing names on the waiver wire in leagues of all sizes. Let’s take a look at some of the names that may be worth some of your free agent budget.

Week 2 IDP Waiver Wire

Linebacker

Zack Baun (LB – PHI): 4% rostered on Yahoo
Zack Baun went off in Week 1, tallying 11 solos, four assists, two sacks, and one tackle for loss. This performance should lock him in beside Nakobe Dean, even when/if Devin White returns to the team. Devin White’s status will affect his floor, but he’s an elite LB3 with obvious LB2 upside for the time being. Add and start him where possible.

Eric Kendricks (LB – DAL): 8% rostered on Yahoo
Kendricks made a statement in Week 1, racking up six solos, three assists, two sacks, one tackle for loss, one interception, and one pass defended. The Cowboys have finally found a solution in the middle at a position that was left in turmoil when Dallas decided to move Micah Parsons to the edge on a more permanent basis. Fire Kendricks up as a strong LB2 for Week 2 and beyond.

DeMarvion Overshown (LB – DAL): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Overshown played 58 percent of the snaps in Week 1, well ahead of Damone Clark (34 percent) and just behind Eric Kendricks (67 percent). He responded with five solos, six assists, one sack, and one tackle for loss, locking up the number two role for all intents and purposes. Treat him as an LB3 option going forward. Make the add where necessary.

Mack Wilson (LB – ARI): 6% rostered on Yahoo
Mack Wilson showed up in Week 1, racking up eight solos, one assist, one tackle for loss, and one pass defended. He did his damage on 63 percent of the snaps, so his production may be inconsistent until he earns a slightly larger role. Still, this was a promising Cardinals debut for Wilson and puts him squarely on the LB3/4 radar for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Make the add where needed

Ja’Whaun Bentley (LB – NE): 3% rostered on Yahoo
Bentley was back to doing Bentley things in Week 1, recording seven solos, five assists, and 0.5 sacks. He is playing an every down role for the Patriots and is undoubtedly the inside linebacker to roster from New England. Treat him as an LB2 option for Week 2. Make the add where needed.

Defensive Line

Jonathan Cooper (DE/LB – DEN): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Cooper was excellent in Week 1, notching two solos, four assists, two sacks, and two tackles for loss. He played 70 percent of the snaps, leading all edge rushers. Fire him up as an upside DL2 for a tasty Week 2 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Andrew Van Ginkel (DE/LB – MIN): 1% rostered at Yahoo
AVG made his presence known immediately for the Minnesota Vikings, recording two solos, two assists, one sack, one interception, one pass defended, and one touchdown. He played 58 percent of the snaps. AVG had six sacks last season while filling in for Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb in Miami and should push to set career highs across the board with a more consistent role sewn up. Treat him as a DL3/4 option for Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Keion White (DE/LB – NE): 1% rostered at Yahoo
Keion White has arrived. White got on the board in Week 1 with three solos, one assist, 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. He has already doubled his sack total from 2023 and should become the force Patriots fans envisioned when he was drafted. White played 80 percent of the snaps compared to Anfernee Jennings’ 55 percent and Josh Uche’s 25. White is the Patriots edge rusher to roster and start for Week 2 and beyond.

Darrell Taylor (DE – CHI): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Taylor was excellent in his Bears debut, notching seven solos, one assist, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. Taylor should have earned a larger snap share with his performance, and playing alongside Montez Sweat should allow him to face constant one-on-ones. Treat him as a DL3 for Week 2 against Houston. Make the add where needed.

Rashan Gary (DE/LB – GB): 4% rostered on Yahoo
Gary was solid in Week 1, posting one solo, three assists, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one pass defended. One of the premier pass rushers in the league and now expected to play a full complement of snaps, Gary should be viewed as a weekly top-15 option. Double-digit sacks is the expectation. Treat Gary as an elite DL2 who will be a DL1 during the byes. Make the add in all competitive leagues.

Defensive Back

Javon Bullard (S – GB): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Javon Bullard racked up seven solos and four assists in Week 1 while playing 100 percent of the snaps. Bullard is locked in as a DB2 play and could threaten DB1 territory if he can prove to be a consistent IDP force. Treat him as an upside DB2 for a plus Week 2 matchup against Anthony Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts. Make the add wherever possible.

Juan Thornhill (S – CLE): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Thornhill was impressive in Week 1, recording eight solos, one assist, and one tackle for loss. This was one of the better IDP performances of Thornhill’s career, and perhaps the Browns scheme is more conducive to him producing. Whatever the case, he is now on the radar as a DB3/4 option. He has a favorable schedule over the next few weeks, so he can solidify himself as a DB3 mainstay if he can show some consistency. Add Thornhill in deeper formats.

Tony Adams (S – NYJ): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Adams had himself a day on Monday night, going off for eight solos, four assists, one sack, and one pass defended. Adams disappointed fantasy managers in 2023, but it looks like he may finally be translating his practice play to games. If he can stay consistent, he will enter the DB2 conversation, but for now, it is safer to treat him as a DB3 with DB2 upside. Treat him as just that for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. Make the add where needed.

Julian Blackmon (S – IND): 7% rostered on Yahoo
Julian Blackmon was excellent in Week 1, racking up 10 solos and three assists against the Houston Texans. With tasty matchups on tap for Weeks 2, 3, and 4, Blackmon becomes a DB2 play. Fire him up as just that for a plus Week 2 matchup against a Green Bay Packers team that will be without Jordan Love.

Nick Cross (S – IND): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Cross had one of the most productive games of his career in Week 1, notching eight solos and six assists, moving him from the bye week filler-only realm to DB3 territory. He will have to show some consistency being for being viewed as anything more than a boom or bust option, but the fact that he can put up DB1 numbers gives us a glimpse of his potential ceiling in Indianapolis.
