Wednesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Michael King (SD) at SEA
Michael King is dialed in. According to FanGraphs, in his previous five starts spanning 27.1 innings, he's had a 1.98 ERA, 3.34 xFIP, 3.55 SIERA, 1.39 WHIP, 9.2 BB%, 28.3 K%, 33.7 CSW% and three quality starts. King can keep cooking against a strikeout-prone, albeit hot, lineup.
The Mariners are tied for 13th in wRC+ (102) with a 27.6 K% versus righties and tied for 18th in wRC+ (98) with a 29.3 K% at home this year. Sadly for King, the Mariners were first in wRC+ (126) with a 23.3 K% in the previous 14 days. Nevertheless, the game's total is a pitcher-friendly 7.0 runs, and the Padres are only slight underdogs (-105).
Hunter Brown (HOU) vs. OAK
Hunter Brown has been even hotter than King. In Brown's past five starts totaling 31.0 innings, he's had a 1.16 ERA, 3.13 xFIP, 3.46 SIERA, 0.87 WHIP, 7.7 BB%, 26.5 K%, 25.5 CSW%, 103 Stuff+, 102 Location+, 101 Pitching+ and four quality starts. Brown's matchup is decent but not perfect tonight.
The Athletics are tied for 15th in wRC+ (101) with a 25.1 K% versus righties and 12th in wRC+ (101) with a 25.7 K% on the road this year. Oakland was third in wRC+ (120) but had a 25.1 K% in the previous 14 days. Finally, the Astros are -210, and the game's total is 8.5 runs.
Bryan Woo (SEA) vs. SD
Bryan Woo and the Mariners are slight favorites (-115) in the projected pitcher's duel against the Padres. San Diego isn't a pristine matchup for Woo. Instead, the Padres are second in wRC+ (116) with a 17.5 K% versus righties and tied for fourth in wRC+ (110) with a 16.7 K% on the road this year. They were also eighth in wRC+ (100) with a 15.3 K% in the previous 14 days. Regardless, the betting info is favorable, and Woo is talented.
In his last five starts spanning 31.2 innings, he's had a 2.56 ERA, 3.82 xFIP, 3.61 SIERA, 0.79 WHIP, 1.7 BB%, 22.3 K%, 30.7 CSW%, 102 Stuff+, 107 Location+, 108 Pitching+ and three quality starts. Woo is also superb at home. In 14 starts totaling 77.1 innings at home since last year, Woo has had a 2.33 ERA, 3.52 xFIP, 0.87 WHIP, 4.0 BB% and 26.9 K%.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
- Road (Dodger Stadium)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 9.0 Runs/CHC +136
Bobby Miller is a punching bag. In 11 starts this year, he's had a 7.79 ERA, 6.65 xERA, 4.46 xFIP, 4.63 SIERA, 1.65 WHIP and allowed 2.72 HR/9. Miller has also coughed up a .398 wOBA to righties and a .403 wOBA to lefties this season. Chicago's above-average offense can tee off on Miller.
- Home (Target Field)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.5 Runs/MIN -205
The Twins exploded last night and have a top-10 offense against righties and at home. Minnesota is seventh in wRC+ (110) versus righties and tied for first in wRC+ (120) at home this year. Facing rookie Jack Kochanowicz is a tasty matchup, too. The rookie righty has had a 4.89 ERA, 6.12 xERA, 4.86 xFIP, 4.92 SIERA, 1.42 WHIP and a pathetic 2.5 K-BB% in his first seven starts in the majors.
Core Studs
- Yordan Alvarez is smashing this year. In 583 plate appearances, he's hit 32 homers and stolen seven bases with 80 runs, 80 RBIs, a .396 OBP, .258 ISO and 169 wRC+.
- In 583 plate appearances this season, Ian Happ has hit 23 homers with 11 stolen bases, 80 runs, 81 RBIs, .341 OBP, .212 ISO and 125 wRC+.
- Despite a dreadful start to the season, Matt Wallner has ripped 12 homers with a .380 OBP, .300 ISO and 165 wRC+ in 216 plate appearances.
Value Plays/Punts
- In Dansby Swanson's previous 106 plate appearances, he's hit five homers with eight stolen bases, 23 runs, 21 RBIs, a .321 OBP, .223 ISO and 120 wRC+.
- Since reaching the majors last year, Michael Busch has had a .326 OBP, .183 ISO and 109 wRC+ against righties.
- Edouard Julien has had a .370 OBP, .187 ISO and 130 wRC+ against righties since reaching The Show last season.

Check out our best picks on the MLB Underdog Cheat Sheet
Matt Wallner: 1.5 Total Bases - More (Sleeper) (1.89x)
Matt Wallner: 1.5 Total Bases - Higher (Underdog) (Scorcher 1.05x)
In addition to Wallner's stellar full-season stats, he's in good form. In his previous 104 plate appearances, he's hit seven doubles and five homers with a .250 batting average, .500 slugging and .250 ISO. The slugger's matchup is tantalizing, too. Kochanowicz has served up nine doubles, one homer, a .318 batting average and .459 slugging to 91 lefties.
Yordan Alvarez: 8.5 Fantasy Points - More (Sleeper) (1.79x)
Yordan Alvarez: 9.0 Fantasy Points - Higher (Underdog)
Alvarez is on a nuclear heater. In his previous 100 plate appearances, he's hit seven homers and stolen two bases with 12 runs, 17 RBIs, a .400 OBP, .278 ISO and 185 wRC+. His matchup is also sweet. Joey Estes has yielded a blistering .387 wOBA to lefties on the road.
Bobby Miller: 22.5 Fantasy Points - Less (Sleeper) (1.78x)
Bobby Miller: 28.5 Fantasy Points - Lower (Underdog)
The Cubs were a suggested stack because Miller is still a train wreck. In four starts since he was recalled from the minors, he's logged only 20.2 innings with a 7.40 ERA, 4.21 xFIP, 4.04 SIERA, 1.40 WHIP, 7.9 BB%, 23.6 K% and allowed 3.48 HR/9. Miller also had only one quality start in that four-start span. He coughed up four, three, three and seven runs in those starts.
