Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Chris Sale (ATL) vs. COL
Chris Sale is pitching at a Cy Young level, and he's not slowing down. According to FanGraphs, in Sale's previous five starts spanning 30.2 innings, he's had a 2.05 ERA, 2.06 xFIP, 2.62 SIERA, 1.30 WHIP, 4.7 BB%, 33.1 K%, 33.5 CSW%, 85 Stuff+, 104 Location+, 104 Pitching+ and four quality starts. Sale's matchup tonight is drool-inducing.
The Rockies are 28th in wRC+ (78) with a 26.9 K% versus lefties and 29th in wRC+ (78) with a 27.9 K% on the road this year. Colorado was also 23rd in wRC+ (88) with a 25.9 K% in the previous 14 days. Unsurprisingly, the Braves are -375, and the game's total is 8.0 runs.
David Peterson (NYM) vs. BOS
David Peterson's 1.86 ERA in his previous six starts was much better than his 4.16 xFIP and 4.57 SIERA. Still, he's excelled at home and has a tasty matchup and betting info. In 21 appearances (17 starts) totaling 96.2 innings at home since last year, Peterson has had a 2.89 ERA, 3.71 xFIP, 1.39 WHIP, 11.4 BB% and 24.5 K%.
The Red Sox are tied for 17th in wRC+ (98) with a 28.0 K% versus lefties this year. Yes, Boston is also second in wRC+ (115) with a 24.5 K% on the road. Nevertheless, they're in a funk, ranking tied for 28th in wRC+ (71) with a 26.0 K% in the previous 14 days. Finally, the Mets are -132, and the game's total is 8.0 runs.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
The Guardians aren't an obvious stack tonight. Cleveland is 19th in wRC+ (96) versus righties and tied for 24th in wRC+ (90) on the road this season. However, they were tied for 12th in wRC+ (109) in the previous 14 days. Brady Singer isn't a pushover, but he's struggled against Cleveland's hitters. Additionally, the Guardians have ample lefties to exploit Singer's .374 wOBA yielded to 351 lefties this year.
- Home (Oracle Park)
- Game Total/Moneyline: Unlisted
The Giants are another non-obvious stack. They have a below-average offense by every applicable split. Nonetheless, Ryne Nelson is inconsistent. He's in good form, but his 4.22 ERA, 4.24 xERA and 4.14 SIERA this season are nothing to write home about. The righty has also allowed a .315 wOBA to lefties and a .337 wOBA to righties. So, Nelson is an unimposing matchup for left-handed and right-handed batters.
Core Studs
- Jose Ramirez has stuffed the stat sheet in a highly productive season at the plate. In 584 plate appearances this year, Ramirez has hit 34 homers and stolen 34 bases with a .331 OBP, .254 ISO and 136 wRC+.
- Steven Kwan will be the first left-handed batter to take a crack at Singer, sitting atop Cleveland's lineup. Kwan's having a career year at the dish, hitting 13 homers with 11 stolen bases, a .361 OBP, .136 ISO and 128 wRC+ in 495 plate appearances.
- Michael Conforto is in a groove. In his previous 97 plate appearances, he's hit five homers with 14 runs, 15 RBIs, a .351 OBP, .274 ISO and 145 wRC+.
Value Plays/Punts
- Kyle Manzardo hasn't put it together yet at the big-league level. Yet, he slugged two homers on Sunday and conquered Triple-A. Could the big showing have been a sign of him turning the corner? Maybe. In 364 plate appearances in Triple-A this year, Manzardo hit 20 homers with a .398 OBP, .281 ISO and 142 wRC+.
- Since 2022, Mike Yastrzemski has had a .324 OBP, .207 ISO and 113 wRC+. Additionally, he's hit leadoff lately for the Giants, enhancing the appeal of using him as a punt.
- Since 2022, Andres Gimenez has had a .329 OBP, .145 ISO and 108 wRC+ against righties.
Tuesday's Top 3 Sleeper and Underdog Player Props
Check out our best picks on the MLB Underdog Cheat Sheet
David Peterson: 17.5 Pitching Outs - Higher (Sleeper) (1.80x)
David Peterson: 16.5 Pitching Outs - Higher (Underdog)
Peterson has piled up innings lately. He's recorded at least 18 outs in four straight and five of his past six games. The Red Sox are dreadful against lefties and in a skid. So, Peterson should exceed 17.5 outs tonight.
Jose Ramirez: 1.5 Total Bases - Higher (Sleeper) (1.94x)
Jose Ramirez: 1.5 Total Bases - Higher (Underdog) (Scorcher 1.08x)
In 417 plate appearances against righties this year, Ramirez has hit 16 doubles, one triple and 21 homers with a .242 batting average, .457 slugging and .215 ISO. The switch-hitter's batting average has left something to be desired, but his power has been legit. Ramirez has an ideal matchup to surpass 1.5 total bases tonight. Singer has coughed up 23 doubles, one triple, 12 homers, a .302 batting average and .495 slugging to 351 lefties this year.
Steven Kwan: 0.5 Runs - Higher (Sleeper) (1.93x)
Steven Kwan: 0.5 Runs - Higher (Underdog) (Scorcher 1.04x)
Singer's ineptitude against lefties is ideal for Kwan to reach base and score a run. The left-handed-hitting outfielder has a .348 OBP against righties this year. Meanwhile, Singer has yielded a .370 OBP to lefties. As a result, Kwan shouldn't have difficulty reaching base, and he has lefties behind him to take advantage of Singer's woes against lefties.
