Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Bailey Ober (MIN) vs. MIA
Bailey Ober has been unlucky lately. According to FanGraphs, in his previous five starts spanning 28.2 innings, he's had a 5.34 ERA. However, he also had a 3.63 xFIP, 3.18 SIERA, 0.91 WHIP, 6.2 BB%, 31.0 K%, 30.3 CSW%, 97 Stuff+, 104 Location+, 102 Pitching+ and three quality starts. The righty has a get-right matchup for his ERA.
The Marlins are 27th in wRC+ (89) with a 23.1 K% versus righties and 28th in wRC+ (79) with a 24.4 K% on the road this season. Miami was also 22nd in wRC+ (82) with a 24.5 K% in the previous 14 days. Thus, the Twins are -240, and the game's total is a pitcher-friendly 7.5 runs.
Spencer Schwellenbach (ATL) vs. NYM
Spencer Schwellenbach doesn't have a favorable matchup tonight. The Mets are tied for seventh in wRC+ (107) with a 22.6 K% versus righties and tied for eighth in wRC+ (107) with a 22.2 K% on the road this season. Additionally, New York was seventh in wRC+ (121) with a 20.9 K% in the previous 14 days. Fortunately, the betting info is rock-solid, and Schwellenbach is a talented pitcher.
The Braves are -130, and the game's total is 8.0 runs. Moreover, in Schwellenbach's nine starts totaling 52.2 innings at home, the rookie has had a 3.93 ERA, 3.18 xFIP, 1.08 WHIP, 3.2 BB%, 28.0 K% and five quality starts.
Mitch Spence (OAK) vs. TEX
Mitch Spence is much better at home than on the road. In 16 appearances (10 starts) spanning 72.0 innings at home this year, the rookie has had a 3.88 ERA, 3.63 xFIP, 1.35 WHIP, 6.2 BB%, 22.3 K% and three quality starts. Spence has a cushy matchup tonight.
The Rangers are tied for 21st in wRC+ (94) with a 20.4 K% versus righties and 26th in wRC+ (88) with a 20.7 K% on the road this year. Texas was also 25th in wRC+ (78) with a 22.3 K% in the previous 14 days. Finally, the betting info is decent. The Athletics are -104, and the game's total is 7.5 runs.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
The Cardinals have an average to slightly below-average offense by tonight's applicable splits. St. Louis is tied for 15th in wRC+ (100) versus righties and tied for 22nd in wRC+ (91) on the road this year. The Red Birds were also tied for 17th in wRC+ (89) in the previous 14 days. Fortunately, they'll get a lift from Coors Field and the pitching matchup tonight.
In 80.2 innings at home since last year, Ryan Feltner has had a 6.25 ERA, 4.26 xFIP, 1.62 WHIP and allowed a .359 wOBA. Finally, Colorado's relievers have the highest ERA (5.31) this year.
- Home (Truist Park)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.0 Runs/ATL -130
The Braves don't have an exceptional offense. Furthermore, Luis Severino is in good form. Still, they're an appealing stack tonight, namely in GPPs. Severino has struggled on the road. In 129.1 innings on the road since last year, Severino has had a 6.05 ERA, 4.27 xFIP, 1.51 WHIP and coughed up a blistering 1.81 HR/9. He's also yielded a .362 wOBA to batters on the road. As a result, Atlanta's stack is exciting, and their appeal is enhanced in GPPs if other gamers overlook them.
Core Studs
- Matt Olson is on fire. In his previous 27 games and 117 plate appearances, he's hit eight homers with 20 runs, 33 RBIs, a .436 OBP, .354 ISO and 204 wRC+.
- In 1,010 career plate appearances against righties, Michael Harris has had a .329 OBP, .195 ISO and 121 wRC+.
- Brendan Donovan has had a .369 OBP, .143 ISO and 126 wRC+ in 1,136 career plate appearances against righties.
Value Plays/Punts
- In 449 career plate appearances against righties, Jordan Walker has hit 15 homers with a .327 OBP, .195 ISO and 121 wRC+.
- Gio Urshela is essentially an average hitter in same-handed matchups. He's had a 103 wRC+ against righties since 2022. Urshela is cheap exposure to the Braves and overqualified for his tiny salary.
- Jacob Wilson destroyed the upper minors. He's had a 70 wRC+ in 83 plate appearances for the Athletics. However, Wilson has been killed by a .258 BABIP, and he's done an outstanding job of avoiding strikeouts, suggesting he's not overwhelmed.
