Justin Herbert Injury: Will He Play Week 3? (2024 Fantasy Football)

Another weekend of NFL football has arrived! Unfortunately, the injury watch for fantasy football managers is also here, and that’s certainly the case for Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. Players who appear on the injury report and haven’t practiced much during the week can often lead to trepidation for managers trying to make fantasy football lineup decisions and/or waiver claims. Don’t fret, though – FantasyPros is here to provide you with all of the latest news and updates on the players who are questionable heading into this week. So, will Justin Herbert play in Week 3? Here’s what we know about Justin Herbert‘s injury and his status for Week 3.

Fantasy Football Outlook: Will Justin Herbert Play Week 3?

Justin Herbert diagnosed with high-ankle sprain, uncertain for Week 3
Chargers QB Justin Herbert stated Friday that he has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain and that it has not been decided if he will play Sunday.

Fantasy Impact

Herbert appeared on the injury report this week and was limited in practice on Thursday. The expectation is that he will likely suit up against the Steelers, but the injury will likely limit his mobility. If Herbert is unable to suit up, Easton Stick would be in line to draw the start in Week 3.

Fantasy Impact

Fantasy managers got a scare when Herbert didn’t practice on Wednesday, but he was back and participating at Thursday’s practice. He was limited, but it’s still a good sign that he’ll be ready to go for Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Barring anything unforeseen, he should play on Sunday, which is great news for all of Los Angeles’ skill-position players.

Justin Herbert working through ankle injury, expected to play Week 3
Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday that QB Justin Herbert is “working through” an ankle issue that he suffered in Week 2 vs. the Panthers and is expected to play on Sunday vs. the Steelers.

Fantasy Impact

Good news here for the fifth-year QB and the Chargers’ offense, as it looks like Herbert’s injury is not too serious. Having everyone healthy for the team’s Week 3 game in Pittsburgh will be crucial in hopes of taking down the 2-0 Steelers.

What the Experts Are Saying

Herbert has been nerfed into a low-end QB2. He is the QB27 in fantasy points per game, ranking 26th in yards per attempt, 28th in passing attempts, and 15th in CPOE. This week, he gets a brutal matchup against a stout Steel Curtain. Pittsburgh has permitted the 14th-lowest yards per attempt, the lowest passer rating, the 10th-lowest CPOE, and the second-fewest fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. Herbert’s offensive line, which has allowed the fifth-lowest pressure rate, will be tested by a Steelers’ pass rush that ranks third in pressure rate. Herbert is questionable to play this week as he’s dealing with an ankle injury. Even if Herbert plays this week, he’s a sit. If he’s out and Easton Stick or Taylor Heinicke gets the start, they aren’t on the fantasy radar.
