Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 4)

Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season is in the books. Hopefully, your team pulled out the victory. However, the only easy win was last week’s win. So, let’s look at the top streaming quarterback options for Week 4.

All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN 1QB leagues and under 25% in superflex leagues.

Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups (Week 4)

Streaming Targets in 1QB Leagues

Geno Smith (SEA) vs. Detroit Lions (27.8% Rostered)

Unfortunately, the veteran didn’t have the Week 3 performance many fantasy players had hoped for. Smith scored 11.4 fantasy points, completing 76.5% of his pass attempts for 289 yards, one touchdown, and two touchdowns. Furthermore, he had no impact in the run game, totaling two attempts for negative two yards. However, Smith would have scored 15.4 fantasy points without the two turnovers after totaling 17.8 or more fantasy points in the other two games this season. More importantly, he could have a top-five finish in Week 4.

The veteran will face the Lions on Monday for the third consecutive year. Detroit has struggled to slow down quarterbacks despite giving up only one passing touchdown per game this season. They have allowed quarterbacks to average 236.3 passing yards and 16.1 fantasy points per game. More importantly, Smith was outstanding in the previous two matchups against the Lions. He has completed at least 76.7% of his pass attempts for 320 yards and two touchdowns in both contests, averaging 27.4 fantasy points per game against the NFC North reigning champions.

Justin Fields (PIT) vs. Indianapolis Colts (24.1% Rostered)

Fantasy players should assume that Fields will start in Week 4 after his performance on Sunday, even if Russell Wilson is healthy. However, fantasy players can pivot to Andy Dalton (1.4% rostered) if Fields isn’t Pittsburgh’s starter. The former Ohio State star wasn’t a fantasy impact player over the first two weeks but was outstanding against the Los Angeles Chargers. He completed 78.1% of his pass attempts for 245 yards and a touchdown while adding a rushing score, totaling 18.4 fantasy points in the win.

Fields should have a field day (pun absolutely intended) against the Colts. Indianapolis has had one of the worst defenses over the first three weeks. They have surrendered 239.7 passing yards, 1.7 touchdowns, and 16.3 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks despite facing Malik Willis and Caleb Williams in back-to-back contests. Furthermore, the Colts have also struggled on the ground, giving up 179 rushing yards per game, including 41 to Willis in Week 2. Don’t be surprised if Fields has a dominating performance in the air and on the ground.

Streaming Targets in Superflex Leagues

Sam Darnold (MIN) vs. Green Bay Packers (16.2% Rostered)

The Vikings have been the NFL’s biggest surprise this season, posting a 3-0 record, including back-to-back victories over the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans. Darnold has been outstanding for Minnesota and fantasy players. The former USC star has averaged 219 passing yards, 2.7 touchdowns, and 19.3 fantasy points per game, totaling 19.9 or more in back-to-back contests. While he suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s win, the veteran only missed one play before returning to the game. Thankfully, the veteran only has a minor bone bruise.

Hopefully, Darnold is 100% healthy for Sunday’s matchup against the Packers. Green Bay has held quarterbacks to 13.3 fantasy points per game this season, including 13.6 or fewer in back-to-back contests. However, they’ve faced young quarterbacks with high turnover rates, with Anthony Richardson and Will Levis combining for six giveaways against the Packers. By comparison, Darnold has only two turnovers this year. Last week, Levis completed 76.5% of his pass attempts for 260 yards against Green Bay. He would have scored 19.6 fantasy points if not for his three turnovers.

Daniel Jones (NYG) vs. Dallas Cowboys (6.1% Rostered)

While Jones is considered one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL, the former Duke star has played well this season. After a poor Week 1 performance against a talented Minnesota Vikings defense, Jones has had back-to-back games with at least 18.3 fantasy points. He threw two touchdowns in both contests. Furthermore, Jones is coming off his best performance since the 2022 season, completing 70.6% of his pass attempts for 236 yards, two touchdowns, and 19.4 fantasy points against an elite Cleveland Browns defense.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ defense has massively struggled after being one of the top units last year. Last week, they gave up 26 fantasy points to Lamar Jackson on only 15 pass attempts. However, he scored 14.7 fantasy points with his legs. Yet, Dallas has surrendered 0.87 fantasy points per pass attempt and 10.4 fantasy points per game on the ground to quarterbacks over the past two weeks despite facing Jackson and Derek Carr. Don’t be surprised if Jones continues his hot streak against the division rivals on a short week.

Streamer to Avoid

Bo Nix (DEN) vs. New York Jets (7.8% Rostered)

Typically, streaming articles provide which players to target off the waiver wire. However, I will give one quarterback that fantasy players should avoid streaming each week.

Unfortunately, the rookie quarterback class didn’t have many bright moments over the first two weeks. However, Nix is coming off his best performance, completing 69.4% of his pass attempts for 216 yards in the Week 3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While the former Oregon star hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass in the NFL, he is making plays with his legs, averaging 35.7 rushing yards per game. Nix had nine rushing attempts for 47 yards and a touchdown last week, scoring 55.3% of his fantasy points on the ground.

The rookie will face his toughest opponent so far this season in Week 4. The Jets held Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye to 120 passing yards and six fantasy points on 26 attempts last week. Furthermore, New York has surrendered only 181 passing yards and 9.2 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, allowing 11.5 or fewer in every contest. The Jets have given up only one passing touchdown and zero rushing scores to quarterbacks. While Nix played well in Week 3, expect him to struggle in Week 4.
