Fantasy Football Roster Trends: Adds, Drops & Most Traded (Week 2)
Trending Up
This could be the most obvious player on the list. Likely’s TE1 performance on Thursday Night Football combined with the subsequent disappearance of every other tight end made this happen. Likely may not be useful every week but this isn’t fool’s gold either. Andrews has struggled in his last two games since returning from injury. Oddly enough, both of those games were against the Chiefs. Maybe it’s a combination of the two and he gets back on track this week. Who knows, but Likely is the real deal and worth rostering either way.
Another big gainer this week was Lazard, who finished as WR3 thanks to his two touchdowns. He also caught six of nine passes for 89 yards, meaning he was a huge part of the Jets’ offense. It sure seemed like Aaron Rodgers was favoring his old Packers teammate, didn’t it? The real question is will that happen again or was that a fluke? Given the fact that Lazard was added everywhere, people are betting it’s the start of a trend. For those that spent heavily to add him, I hope they’re right.
Mayfield impressed a lot of people in Week 1, finishing as QB2 behind Josh Allen. His high finish was thanks in large part to throwing four touchdowns, which aren’t exactly a sticky stat. He could do it again, but Mayfield isn’t known for his consistency. That being said, if the team liked what they saw there’s a world where they lean on him to carry the load again this week. Personally, I’m not rolling Mayfield out against the Lions in Week 2, but if he performs well again he could become a top-10 option going forward.

With all of the additions, there have to be some drops. Corum makes sense to me as someone fantasy managers are already giving up on. He saw a whopping zero carries or touches in Week 1. His goose egg is not entirely surprising, but it wasn’t expected either. It’s not uncommon for rookie running backs to start slow, so I’m not overreacting too much just yet. I’m fine dropping him in redraft if you see someone better, but I’d hold on to him if you can.
Samuel saw two targets in Week 1, catching both for a measly 15 yards. I expected him to be the third WR option on the team for fantasy purposes, but perhaps he’s further down the depth chart than that. However, if the touchdown had gone to Samuel instead of Hollins, we’d be singing a different story. Much like Corum, I’m not sure I’m giving up just yet. The Bills have a high-powered offense and will need their receivers to step up to compete. I still think Samuel can contribute, but I understand moving on for someone flashier too.
Much like Corum, Williams put up a big zero in Week 1. Rodgers favored Lazard and ignored Williams. Looking at the passing chart, Rodgers pretty much ignored the entire right side of the field. Do I think Williams can turn things around? Sure, but I’m fine cutting bait and letting someone else give him that chance. I avoided Williams in all of my drafts for this exact reason, but if I did draft him I would imagine his leash would be super short. This makes his immediate addition to the cut list very obvious to me.
Most Traded
Jordan Mason/Christian McCaffrey (RB – SF)
Outside of waivers, the best way to change your fortune in fantasy is to make a trade. With the injury to Christian McCaffrey making him a last-minute scratch on Monday, I’m not at all shocked to see his name at the top of the traded list. In addition, his replacement in Mason, also makes sense in appearing on this list. I’m sure McCaffrey managers were panicking and adding Mason if they could, but they might have had to make a deal with the devil instead. If you had Mason and traded him away I sure hope you got a king’s ransom for him from the McCaffrey manager.
Worthy looked terrific on Thursday night, finishing as WR11 on the week. He didn’t get a lot of opportunities but he did a lot with the few opportunities he got. He scored a rushing touchdown on his single carry and a receiving touchdown on one of his two catches. A 66% touchdown rate is crazy and not something likely to repeat, but I get the allure. Teams that added Worthy are likely adding him for the upside. Worthy has that in spades, and I fully expect him to be a weapon that Mahomes and the Chiefs lean on all season long.
The offseason reports of Dobbins being washed were perhaps a little premature. Dobbins finished as RB4 on the week in PPR scoring behind his 135-yard performance. Anyone who rostered Dobbins was hoping for something like this and was likely more than happy to sell high. Hopefully, they got something more valuable in return that can help them down the stretch. If not, they can always look back at his great Week 1 performance and imagine what could have been if they’d just held on.
