Fantasy Football IDP Start/Sit Lineup Advice: Week 2 (2024)

James Cook and Tua Tagovailoa will be in most of the headlines, but Thursday Night Football also gave us the continued emergence of Khalil Shakir and a painful look at how easy it is for the Dolphins offense to stall without a credible WR3. There were also some storylines on the defensive side of the ball, including Von Miller ratcheting up the pressures and notching a sack despite a rotational role, Ja’Marcus Ingram picking Tua off twice, David Long continuing his LB2 push, and Damar Hamlin solidifying himself ahead of rookie Cole Bishop. Looking ahead to this weekend, we will take a look at five players fantasy managers should do their best to plug into their lineups and five others who are better left on benches despite promising upside. Let’s dig in.

Fantasy Football IDP Start/Sit Week 2

Start em

Dallas Turner (DE/LB – MIN)
Turner played just 51 percent of the snaps in Week 1 but still managed to notch his first sack, finishing the afternoon with three solos, one sack, and one tackle for loss. He should see his role expand in the coming weeks, but the snap percentage is a cause for concern as far as his weekly floor. Move him down to DL3 territory for now, but he should emerge as an upside DL2 IDP asset sooner rather than later. Start him as a DL3 for a plus Week 2 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Tyquan Lewis (DE – IND)
Tyquan Lewis popped onto the IDP radar with a strong Week 1 performance that saw him register four solos, two assists, one sack, and one tackle for loss. Lewis played identical snaps to Kwity Paye at 66 percent, while promising rookie Laiatu Latu played just 36 percent. Lewis is a deep league DL3/4 option for as long as he is seeing north of 60 percent of the snaps. Fire him up as such for a plus Week 2 matchup against Malik Willis and the Green Bay Packers.

Chase Young (DE – NO)
Chase was back on the case in Week 1, generating six pressures while facing constant double teams. He played ahead of veteran Cam Jordan, seeing 63 percent of the snaps, while Jordan saw 46 percent. He was right behind Carl Granderson in snaps (68 percent,t), and as the superior pass rusher at this point in their respective careers, he should continue to see more time than Jordan in neutral and positive gamescipt situations. Continue to start him as a DL3 option for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Josey Jewell (LB – CAR)
Jewell played 94 percent of the snaps in Week 1, tallying three solos, four assists, and one pass defended. Shaq Thompson played more snaps (100 percent), but the Panthers stay in nickel enough for both of these linebackers to be start-worthy every week as DL2/3 options. Treat him as an LB3 with LB2 upside for Week 2, thanks to a plus matchup against a Los Angeles Chargers team he saw a ton of when he was with Denver.

Tyler Nubin (S – NYG)
Despite being listed as the backup to Dean Belton on the depth chart, Tyler Nubin played every snap in Week 1, while Belton was relegated to just 16 percent of the snaps. This revelation puts Nubin back on the DB3 radar after a solid five solos and an assist in his NFL debut. He is worth plugging into deeper lineups for Week 2, thanks to a plus matchup against Washington. Start him as a DB3/flex where needed.

Sit em

Edgerrin Cooper (LB – GB)
Edgerrin Cooper played just 14 percent of the snaps in Week 1. The most concerning part was not that he played minimally behind Isaiah McDuffie but that he saw fewer snaps than journeyman Eric Wilson. Keep him glued to benches for Week 2 despite a tasty matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

Ivan Pace (LB – MIN)
Pace played just 55 percent of the snaps in Week 1, confirming the fear that Blake Cashman winning the green dot meant Pace would be the one rotating out. What is even more damning is that Kamu Grugier-Hill did not play one defensive snap. Keep Pace rostered as more LB3 than LB2 going forward.

Damone Clark (LB – DAL)
Clark should be left on benches for Week 2 after Week 1 suggested that he has fallen behind DeMarvion Overshown on the depth chart. Clark was expected to start beside Eric Kendricks in nickel packages but ended up playing just 34 percent of the snaps, while Overshown played 58 percent. The talent suggests a continued stash, but if his role remains unchanged over the coming weeks, he will become a cut candidate during the byes.

Grady Jarrett (DE – ATL)
Grady racked up two solos, one assist, 1.5 sacks, and two tackles for loss in Week 1, tying his 2023 total in the process. The Falcons have more talent on defense than they’ve had since Grady joined Atlanta, so there is a chance of a breakout season coming. However, we need to see more before counting him as anything more than a bye week filler. Leave him on benches for Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tyrann Mathieu (S – NO)
Tyrann picked up a hamstring injury that kept him out of Wednesday’s practice while keeping him limited on Thursday. He managed just 46 percent of the snaps in Week 1, so this is an injury that could limit his snaps even if he does suit up this weekend. Make other plans for Week 2, but keep Mathieu stashed in deeper 11 v 11 formats.
