Christian McCaffrey Injury: Will He Play Week 2? (Fantasy Football)

Another weekend of NFL football has arrived! Unfortunately, the injury watch for fantasy football managers is also here, and that’s certainly the case with 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey. Players who appear on the injury report and haven’t practiced much during the week, like Christian McCaffrey, can often lead to trepidation for managers trying to make fantasy football lineup decisions and/or waiver claims. Don’t fret, though – FantasyPros is here to provide you with all of the latest news and updates on the players who are questionable heading into this week. So, will Christian McCaffrey play in Week 2? Here’s what we know.

Fantasy Football Outlook: Will Christian McCaffrey Play Week 2?

Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) ruled out for Week 2

McCaffrey is set to miss his second-straight game on Sunday. He is dealing with a lingering injury to his calf and Achilles, and the team wants to be cautious with his recovery and give him all the time that he needs to get fully healthy. His next chance to play will come in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams, and until then, Jordan Mason will continue to serve as the starter in his absence and will be a strong RB2 for fantasy purposes on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact

McCaffrey was able to suit up and practice on a limited basis for the second straight day. He will have a another day to log more practice time in hopes to make his season debut against the Vikings in Week 2. If McCaffrey is unable to play, Jordan Mason would handle the bulk of the carries again.

Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) feels like a ‘long-shot’ to play in Week 2, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Impact

McCaffrey was surprisingly held out of the team’s season opener because of a lingering Achilles injury, and it looks like he may miss San Francisco’s next game as well. He’s reportedly day-to-day for the time being, but it seems to be a lingering issue that may take real time to fully heal. This is a devastating blow for fantasy managers if it turns out to be true, but it would once again propel Jordan Mason into the RB2 range for the week.
