SmashUp Fantasy Sports is back and better than ever for the 2024 season. The award winning weekly contest we all know and love is back with new cards added to the mix to keep things interesting. New for 2024 is the addition of season long leagues. League size is unlimited as it remains the same DFS roster format. These season long DFS style leagues are named Chase the Crown. And yes, they are all completely free to play.

Chase the Crown
Chase the Crown league winners with a minimum of six teams that have six or more weeks of activity will automatically qualify for the Tournament of Champions, which is the playoff-focused weekly DFS contest with increased prizes.
For those unfamiliar with the weekly product that launched late last season, we covered it in depth here and will again as the season draws closer, but for a quick recap, the weekly and season long tournaments are DFS-styled multiplier contests with a twist. Instead of just choosing players with multipliers already assigned to them or assigning them yourself, SmashUp Fantasy has multiplier cards that, when combined with the graphic interface, gives users a bit of a retro video game feel, which only enhances the fun and experience.
There is a salary cap for both the players you roster and the cards you utilize, making this DFS offering require more skill and strategy than the skill/luck heavy contests we are used to.
First league
Registration for Season Long Chase the Crown is open, so I quickly started a couple of my own. One strictly for members of my home league, while another will be a much bigger group. Ligue 1 was the best league name I could come up with (while watching the France Olympics). To make my contests as fun as possible, I will be posting the link in most, if not all, of my league chats. If there is enough interest, we can even set up a league for FantasyPros readers.
SmashCards
SmashCards are the main differentiator for SmashUp Fantasy and are what make it entertaining and worth playing. Week 1 team registration starts on August 27th, so we will briefly touch on some of the cards we utilized. Before I do, I will leave you with this reminder/tip/insight, the cards utilized and who you use them on are make-or-break decisions. It is not uncommon to see teams with more than half of their score come from card bonuses. This is something to keep in mind when constructing teams.
Here is a list of some of my favorite cards to use:
Starting QB: Your quarterback gets a 1.5x multiplier to their score
Scramble Spikes: QB: For your quarterback, all points from rushing yards and rushing touchdowns get a 2.5x multiplier, while all points from passing yards and passing touchdowns get a 0.25x multiplier.
All Pro RB: Your running back gets a 2x multiplier to their score
Not So Wide Receiver: WR: If the selected player does not score a receiving touchdown, they get a 2x multiplier on points from their receiving yards. However, if they do score a receiving touchdown, this card does nothing.
The Human Vulture: RB/WR/TE: For the selected player, the points from rushing and receiving TDs get a 2x multiplier, and points from rushing and receiving YDs get a 0.5x multiplier
All Pro DEF: Your defense gets a 2.5x multiplier to their score
Sacks in the City: DEF: Every sack caused by your defense gets a 4x multiplier on that component of the defense score
All Pro K: Your kicker gets a 2.5x multiplier to their score
Big Kick Energy: K: All points your kicker scores from made field goals longer than 40 yds get a 2.5x multiplier.
