Renegade Fantasy Football: Draft Prep

Review settings

Draft prep for your fantasy draft always begins with a review of your league’s settings. It is no different at Renegade Fantasy. My main league is the Renegade Standard PPR league, with 12 teams, 25 player rosters, and 20 starters per week. Real time substitutions are going to bring a brand new wrinkle to fantasy football and may take some getting used to, especially with five player benches to 20 starters.

Mock Draft

Once you have firmly understood your settings, it is time to mock draft. If your draft order has been preset, you can do all your mocks from your actual draft position. If this has not been set when you are ready to mock, head over to Draft Wizard and do a mock from each slot. Draft Wizard can be customized to match Renegade Fantasy’s roster settings. I did my first mock draft out of the eight hole and have done one for each of the other draft slots since. Despite being 25 rounds, the mocks take less than five minutes to complete.

Pre-rank

Any veteran fantasy football player will tell you to pre-rank your players either on the platform’s system or through a cheat sheet. League provider pre-ranks are notoriously unreliable, even when contracted out. There will always be players listed too low or too high. You can gain an advantage in your draft room by identifying these players.

Draft Tools

The most important draft tool is the Draft Wizard as mock drafts are often one of the best ways to help you do your final preparation for draft day. However, it does not start there. Keeping up on the latest fantasy football news is step one. FantasyPros does a great job of compiling all this information for us, so we don’t have to worry about sourcing this info ourselves. The second step is to get familiar with where fantasy analysts have players ranked going into the season. Every fantasy analyst differs, which is why being able to customize the rankings you see (by selecting your preferred experts) is an invaluable resource that can give you an edge on draft day. Consensus rankings or ECR combined with ADP will allow you to easily identify players you think may be sleepers or busts. Consensus sleepers can be found here. Finally, when your draft starts be sure to make use of the Draft Assistant.
