PGA DFS Advice & Picks: BMW Championship (2024)

It was a fantastic showing for our DFS player pool at last week’s St. Jude in Memphis. We had lineups leveraged with champion Hideki Matsuyama and runner-up Viktor Hovland, so the bankroll is flush entering the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

With the field whittled down to 50 golfers, the likelihood of duplicate lineups increases. Our subsequent moves are simple: Shrink the player pool and get aggressive on our guys. We also must continue to pepper single-entry and three-max tournaments with higher costs of entry. It’s a numbers game and we’re in the business of maximizing our odds of cashing in.

The BMW Championship venue has moved around in the past few years. Last year, it was Hovland who set Olympia Fields ablaze with an incendiary birdie barrage. This season’s rendition takes place at more than a mile high. Castle Pines Golf Club in greater Denver, Colorado is a beastly 8,100 yards and change, a new record for an official PGA Tour event. Adjusted for altitude, however, Castle Pines is merely a Tour-average track with a very gettable par-72 on the card.

A blend of Poa and Bentgrass dot the bluffs and valleys at the foot of the mighty Rockies, with tight fairways and well-guarded green complexes. A well-rounded golfer in good form will still need to keep his wits about him to move on to next week’s Tour Championship. Distance is not a prerequisite, but certainly aids in allowing for shorter clubs on approach. Scrambling and quality putting will also hold importance, especially if the conditions are as firm and fast as predicted. With an idea and a dream out of thin air, let’s dig in.
