Wednesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Jack Flaherty (LAD) vs. SEA
Jack Flaherty's showing no signs of slowing down in a bounce-back campaign. According to FanGraphs, in his previous four starts spanning 22.2 innings, Flaherty has had a 2.78 ERA, 2.91 xFIP, 3.01 SIERA, 1.19 WHIP, 6.3 BB%, 31.6 K%, 28.4 CSW%, 93 Stuff+, 108 Location+, 106 Pitching+ and two quality starts.
Flaherty has a high-upside matchup and sweet betting info tonight. The Mariners are tied for 15th in wRC+ (98) with a 28.3 K% versus righties and 17th in wRC+ (95) with a 26.5 K% on the road. Seattle was also 28th in wRC+ (83) with a 30.3 K% in the previous 14 days. So, the Dodgers are -165, and the game's total is 7.5 runs.
Ryan Pepiot (TB) at OAK
Ryan Pepiot was hitting his stride before a month on the Injured List (IL). Thankfully, he picked up where he left off in his return on August 16. In Pepiot's past five starts, he's had a 1.37 ERA, 3.97 xFIP, 4.13 SIERA, 0.95 WHIP, 8.7 BB%, 23.1 K%, 28.5 CSW%, 115 Stuff+, 99 Location+ and 106 Pitching+ in 26.1 innings.
Pepiot has an average matchup and rock-solid betting info tonight. The Athletics are tied for 15th in wRC+ (98) with a 25.2 K% versus righties and tied for 11th in wRC+ (107) with a 23.5 K% at home. Oakland was also 15th in wRC+ (102) with a 20.8 K% in the last 14 days. Therefore, the Rays are -130, and the game's total is 7.5 runs.
Mitch Spence (OAK) vs. TB
Mitch Spence is Pepiot's opponent tonight, and the pitcher-friendly total applies to his DFS outlook, too. The A's are also slight underdogs (+110), which shouldn't dissuade gamers from using Spence as an SP2 in GPPs at DK.
Spence has done his best work at home. In 14 appearances (eight starts) lasting 60.2 innings at home, the rookie righty has had a 3.86 ERA, 3.93 xFIP, 1.34 WHIP, 7.1 BB% and 20.4 K%. Spence's stats aren't jaw-dropping, but they're acceptable for his cushy matchup. The Rays are tied for 21st in wRC+ (93) with a 24.1 K% versus righties and 11th in wRC+ (99) with a 24.7 K% on the road this year. Finally, the Rays were last in wRC+ (70) with a 23.7 K% in the previous 14 days.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
The Royals have an above-average offense, tying for 12th in wRC+ (102) versus righties and tying for 11th in wRC+ (107) at home this year. However, they've cranked it up, ranking tied for third in wRC+ (126) in the last 14 days. They should continue their heater in a mouthwatering matchup against Johnny Cueto. The 38-year-old righty has had a 4.84 ERA, 5.11 FIP, 1.29 WHIP and allowed 1.32 HR/9 in 12 starts in Triple-A this year. Moreover, Cueto had a 6.02 ERA and 5.13 xERA in 13 appearances (10 starts) last year, coughing up a .343 wOBA to righties and a .378 wOBA to lefties.
- Road (Truist Park)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.0 Runs/PHI EVEN
Max Fried isn't a cupcake matchup for the Phillies. Yet, they're catching him at the ideal time. In Fried's last five starts, he's allowed three, five, five, one and five runs. Meanwhile, the Phillies have MLB's best offense against lefties, sporting a 122 wRC+ against southpaws. Philadelphia is also 10th in wRC+ (101) on the road and was tied for third in wRC+ (126) in the previous 14 days.
