Wednesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Robbie Ray (SF) vs. ATL
Robbie Ray has shown flashes of brilliance since debuting for the Giants this year. According to FanGraphs, in four starts spanning 20.1 innings, the former Cy Young Award winner has had a 3.98 ERA, 3.69 xFIP, 3.39 SIERA, 1.18 WHIP, 10.7 BB%, 33.3 K%, 29.4 CSW%, 106 Stuff+, 95 Location+ and 96 Pitching+. The veteran lefty has a decent matchup tonight.
The Braves are tied for 13th in wRC+ (106) with a 24.4 K% versus lefties and tied for 17th in wRC+ (94) with a 24.0 K% on the road this year. Atlanta is tied for 12th in wRC+ (107) since the All-Star break, but they've had an exploitable 28.2 K%. The Giants are -115, and the game's total is 8.0 runs.
Bryan Woo (SEA) at DET
Bryan Woo is in excellent form. In his previous four starts spanning 24.1 innings, he's had a 1.93 ERA, 3.06 xFIP, 3.25 SIERA, 0.86 WHIP, 2.2 BB%, 23.3 K%, 28.5 CSW%, 105 Stuff+, 108 Location+ and 109 Pitching+. Sadly, Woo is much better at home than on the road. Nevertheless, the young righty has a tasty matchup tonight.
The Tigers are tied for 25th in wRC+ (89) with a 23.9 K% versus righties and tied for 21st in wRC+ (94) with a 21.5 K% at home this year. Finally, Detroit is 29th in wRC+ (73) with a 24.6 K% since the All-Star break.
David Peterson (NYM) vs. OAK
David Peterson's matchup is mixed. The Athletics are ninth in wRC+ (113) with a 23.7 K% versus lefties. Oakland is also sixth in wRC+ (117) with a 20.2 K% since the All-Star break. Yet, they're tied for 20th in wRC+ (92) with a 26.7 K% on the road.
Conveniently, Oakland's road struggles mesh with Peterson's favorable home splits. In 19 appearances (15 starts) totaling 83.1 innings at home since last year, the southpaw has had a 3.13 ERA, 3.76 xFIP, 1.44 WHIP, 58.4 GB%, 11.7 BB% and 24.7 K%. Thus, the Mets are -190, and the game's total is 8.5 runs.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
The Dodgers have a high-octane offense. LA is fourth in wRC+ (114) versus righties and fifth in wRC+ (110) on the road this season. They're in a blow-up spot against Frankie Montas tonight. The veteran lefty lasted only 18.0 innings in his past four starts, getting torched for an 8.50 ERA, 4.28 xFIP, 2.06 WHIP and 2.0 HR/9. LA's lefties are the most exciting stacking options because Montas has coughed up a .377 wOBA to 248 lefties this year.
- Home (Citi Field)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.5 Runs/NYM -190
The Mets have an above-average offense, ranking 10th in wRC+ (107) versus righties and ninth in wRC+ (110) at home this season. They can build on their success in a drool-inducing matchup. Joey Estes has been a tire fire on the road. In 10 appearances (nine starts) on the road since debuting in the majors last year, Estes has had a 7.17 ERA, 5.50 xFIP and 1.55 WHIP.
