Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Michael King (SD) vs. PIT
Except for Michael King, the pitching landscape on tonight's MLB DFS slate is dreadful. He's the lone bright spot and will justifiably be chalky. According to FanGraphs, in King's past three starts spanning 18.1 innings, he's had a 2.95 ERA, 2.67 xFIP, 2.99 SIERA, 0.82 WHIP, 7.2 BB%, 31.9 K% and 33.6 CSW%. King should stay hot in a cushy matchup.
The Pirates are 28th in wRC+ (84) with a 24.3 K% versus righties and tied for 25th in wRC+ (88) with a 25.6 K% on the road this year. Pittsburgh is also 24th in wRC+ (95) with a 25.1 K% since the All-Star break. Thus, the Padres are -200, and the game's total is 8.0 runs.
Kyle Harrison (SF) vs. ATL
Kyle Harrison's matchup is mixed. The Braves are tied for 11th in wRC+ (108) with a 23.9 K% versus lefties and 17th in wRC+ (95) with a 23.7 K% on the road this year. Yet, Atlanta is tied for ninth in wRC+ (112) with a 27.5 K% since the All-Star break.
Fortunately, Harrison has rock-solid splits at home. In 13 career starts at home, Harrison has had a 3.23 ERA, 3.85 xFIP, 1.15 WHIP, 6.5 BB%, 25.3 K% and five quality starts in 69.2 innings. The Giants are -105, and the game's total is 8.5 runs, cementing Harrison's status as an appealing SP2 at DK and a viable GPP choice at FD.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
The Red Sox had a mediocre showing last night at home. However, they have an eruption spot tonight, even with Jarren Duran serving the second game of his two-game suspension. In Jose Urena's last four appearances (two starts) totaling 15.1 innings, he's had a 6.46 ERA, 5.48 xFIP, 5.74 SIERA, 1.83 WHIP, 11.4 BB%, 11.4 K%, 22.2 CSW%, 77 Stuff+, 94 Location+ and 92 Pitching+.
Boston's above-average offense can punish Urena. The Red Sox are seventh in wRC+ (110) versus righties and 17th in wRC+ (100) at home this year. They are also tied for third in wRC+ (131) since the All-Star break.
- Home (Chase Field)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 9.0 Runs/ARI -250
Sadly, Ketel Marte left last night's game after one plate appearance after aggravating his ankle injury. So, he's not in the projected starting lineup tonight. Nevertheless, the Diamondbacks are tied for fourth in wRC+ (119) versus lefties and tied for fifth in wRC+ (117) at home this year. Moreover, the Diamondbacks are first in wRC+ (147) since the All-Star break.
Arizona has a mouthwatering matchup tonight. In Austin Gomber's last four starts, he's had a 6.52 ERA, 4.13 xFIP, 4.00 SIERA, 1.40 WHIP, 2.79 HR/9 and 25.4 CSW%. In addition, Gomber has had a 4.51 ERA and 4.75 xFIP on the road since last season. Finally, Colorado's bullpen is MLB's worst.
Core Studs
- In 458 plate appearances this year, Rafael Devers has popped 25 homers with a .378 OBP, .289 ISO and 155 wRC+.
- Matt Wallner has hit 21 homers with a .405 OBP, .292 ISO and 172 wRC+ in 358 career plate appearances against righties.
- In Masataka Yoshida's last 91 plate appearances, he's had a .374 OBP, .167 ISO and 129 wRC+.
Value Plays/Punts
- Josh Bell is on fire. In his last 99 plate appearances, he's hit nine homers with a .384 OBP, .375 ISO and 190 wRC+.
- In 450 plate appearances against southpaws since 2022, Randal Grichuk has hit 20 homers with a .360 OBP, .235 ISO and 139 wRC+.
- Kevin Newman is a no-brainer punt if he hits leadoff tonight. Yet, he's a rock-solid option if he hits lower in the order. In 316 plate appearances against lefties since 2022, Newman has had a .358 OBP, .135 ISO and 120 wRC+.

Rafael Devers: 9.0 Fantasy Points - Higher (Underdog)
Rafael Devers: 8.0 Fantasy Points - More (PrizePicks)

Shohei Ohtani: 9.5 Fantasy Points - Higher (Underdog)
Shohei Ohtani: 10.0 Fantasy Points - More (PrizePicks)
Shohei Ohtani is having a massive season at the plate. In 530 plate appearances in 2024, he's hit 36 homers and stolen 33 bases with a .386 OBP, .322 ISO and 175 wRC+. Conversely, Colin Rea has allowed a .316 wOBA to 265 left-handed batters this season. It's not a cupcake matchup for Ohtani. Still, Rea isn't an imposing matchup, either.
