Monday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Brandon Pfaadt (ARI) vs. COL
Brandon Pfaadt is in rock-solid form and is entering a cushy matchup tonight. According to FanGraphs, in his previous four starts spanning 24.1 innings, Pfaadt has had a 3.70 ERA, 3.52 xFIP, 3.69 SIERA, 0.90 WHIP, 3.3 BB%, 21.7 K%, 28.2 CSW%, 106 Stuff+, 107 Location+ and 108 Pitching+. The young righty should cruise tonight.
The Rockies are 29th in wRC+ (81) with a 25.6 K% versus righties and 28th in wRC+ (79) with a 27.9 K% on the road this year. Colorado is also tied for 26th in wRC+ (83) with a 28.6 K% since the All-Star break. The Diamondbacks are -215, and the game's total is 8.5 runs.
Luis Gil (NYY) at CWS
Luis Gil has the best possible matchup tonight. The White Sox are 30th in wRC+ (72) with a 24.2 K% versus righties and 30th in wRC+ (74) with a 22.6 K% at home. Furthermore, Chicago is 30th in wRC+ (59) with a 26.7 K% since the All-Star break.
Meanwhile, Gil has pitched well lately in a breakout campaign. In Gil's past four starts totaling 21.1 innings, he's had a 2.11 ERA, 3.82 xFIP, 3.75 SIERA, 1.22 WHIP, 11.1 BB%, 30.0 K%, 27.3 CSW%, 106 Stuff+, 94 Location+ and 102 Pitching+. Predictably, the Bronx Bombers are massive favorites. The Yankees are -305, and the game's total is 9.0 runs.
Blake Snell (SF) vs. ATL
Blake Snell has steamrolled the competition recently. In his last five starts lasting 34.0 innings, Snell has had a 1.32 ERA, 2.47 xFIP, 2.34 SIERA, 0.56 WHIP, 6.8 BB%, 39.0 K%, 37.6 CSW%, 124 Stuff+, 102 Location+ and 110 Pitching+.
The veteran lefty doesn't have a cupcake matchup. Still, the Braves are tied for 12th in wRC+ (106) with a 24.2 K% versus southpaws and tied for 18th in wRC+ (93) with a 23.9 K% on the road this year, so they're not world-beaters. Atlanta is also 12th in wRC+ (107) with a 28.2 K% since the All-Star break. Finally, the game's total is 7.0 runs in a probable pitching duel, albeit with the Giants only -105.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
Tyler Mahle has made only one start in the majors after six rehab starts in the minors this year. The veteran righty yielded only one run in 5.0 innings in his first start of the season for the Rangers but had just two strikeouts, a 7.9 SwStr%, 28.9 CSW%, 92 Stuff+, 106 Location+ and 102 Pitching+. Mahle's unimpressive swinging-strike rate and Stuff+ could bite him in the butt at hitter-friendly Fenway Park against a potent offense, hence Boston's juicy implied total.
- Home (Target Field)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.0 Runs/MIN -155
Brady Singer has struggled on the road. While he's had a mediocre 3.86 ERA and 4.13 xFIP on the road this year, his numbers are worse over a larger sample. In 22 starts on the road spanning 114.0 innings since last year, he's had a 5.68 ERA and 4.16 xFIP. The righty is also a disaster against left-handed batters. Singer has coughed up a .372 wOBA to 302 left-handed batters this year, making Minnesota's lefties and switch-hitters the most intriguing choices. Still, eight of Minnesota's projected starters have had at least a 104 wRC+ against righties since 2022 or debuting in the majors, making the entire lineup stackable.
Core Studs
- Since 2022, Rafael Devers has had a .376 OBP, .270 ISO and 151 wRC+ against right-handed pitching.
- In 112 plate appearances this season, Matt Wallner has hit seven homers with a .393 OBP, .348 ISO and 181 wRC+.
- Since debuting in 2023, Wilyer Abreu has had a .366 OBP, .242 ISO and 144 wRC+ against righties.
Value Plays/Punts
- In Josh Bell's previous 100 plate appearances, he's hit 10 homers with a .390 OBP, .398 ISO and 197 wRC+.
- Since 2022, Trevor Larnach has had a .320 OBP, .197 ISO and 111 wRC+ against righties.
- Nick Sogard is an adequate punt. The rookie had 12 homers, 10 stolen bases, a .382 OBP, .160 ISO and 116 wRC+ in 406 plate appearances in Triple-A this season.
