Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Half-PPR, Mid-Round Pick (2024)

The Hall of Fame game last week was a friendly reminder that football season is just around the corner! With the regular season starting in just about 30 days, it’s time to start thinking about how to build this year’s fantasy teams.

Below, I will walk you through my latest fantasy football mock draft using half-PPR scoring with the standard Yahoo roster format (1QB/2RB/2WR/1Flex/1K/1DST) and picking from the 6th spot. And don’t forget to prepare for your fantasy football draft with our FREE mock draft simulator.

Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Half-PPR, 6th Pick

1.06: Bijan Robinson (RB – ATL)

In most half-PPR and full-PPR leagues, I look to take one of the top running backs available when drafting from spots one through six. If I can accomplish that, I will most likely use the Hero RB strategy for the rest of my draft.

At the 6th pick, I had my choice of Bijan, Justin Jefferson, AJ Brown, or Breece Hall. If Kirk Cousins were still with the Vikings, Jefferson would be the clear-cut choice, but with the uncertainty of the quarterback play in Minnesota, we see Jefferson fall, which is why we ultimately choose Bijan.

2.07: Drake London (WR – ATL)

At 2.07, I chose London over Chris Olave because, with the new coaching regime and Cousins at quarterback, I think we will finally see how explosive this offense can be. This should unveil Drake London’s true potential.

3.06: Nico Collins (WR – HOU)

Fresh off a new contract extension, Nico Collins looks to build off a career year in 2023. The former Wolverine finished second in the NFL in yards per route run (3.3), trailing only Tyreek Hill. C.J. Stroud and this offense should only get better in year two. The only downside of this pick is the addition of Stefon Diggs in Houston, which could cause target competition, but with half-PPR, I’m not worried enough to pass on Collins, who can also do significant damage after the catch.

4.07: DJ Moore (WR – CHI)

When following a Hero RB build, I want to attack the pass catcher early and often. DJ Moore is another guy coming off a career year and entering into a better offensive situation with Caleb Williams as his QB. If he’s not available, DeVonta Smith could also be a good pick here at 4.07.

5.07: Trey McBride (TE – AZ)

I may have reached a bit here for Trey McBride, but I am very high on the Cardinals’ offense this year. With Kyler Murray as his quarterback, McBride was on a 17-game pace for 113 receptions and 1,143 yards, both of which would have led among all tight ends.

Dalton Kincaid, Zay Flowers, and Malik Nabers were all still on the board and were suitable options. However, going with a Hero RB build, I wanted to make sure I grabbed an elite TE. With Josh Allen already off the board, I went with McBride for a chance to stack.

6.07: Kyler Murray (QB – AZ)

Again, I probably took Kyler Murray a few spots ahead of his ADP, but as I mentioned, I wanted to make sure I was able to land Kyler so that I could create a mini-stack with Trey McBride and capitalize on his rushing ability.

7.06: Christian Kirk (WR – JAC)

I wanted to add one more pass catcher before adding to my RB room. Christian Kirk is the #1 in Jacksonville, he has earned Trevor Lawrence‘s trust, and he will be flanked by two newcomers. It will take a few weeks for T-Law to build chemistry with Gabe Davis and rookie Brian Thomas Jr. I also considered Gus Edwards at this pick, but Kirk’s ceiling was much higher than any of the running backs on the board.

8.07: Jerome Ford (RB – CLE)

Ford will be my RB2 at the start of the season, which is not terrible as he will be the Browns’ RB1 while Chubb recovers from his second ACL injury. We also saw D’Onta Foreman go down with a head/neck injury earlier this week. So it’s not too often we can get a bona fide RB1 this late in the draft with pass-catching ability. He is a great value at 8.07, in my opinion.

9.06: Chase Brown (RB – CIN)

We start to add some RB depth late in the draft. It’s most likely that Zack Moss will open the season as the Bengals RB1, but Chase Brown is not far behind. These two running backs are being drafted near the same ADP, and in half-point PPR leagues, I’d rather have the more explosive RB with the better pass-catching ability.

10.07: George Kittle (TE – SF)

If Blake Corum or Zach Charbonnet had fallen to me at this pick, I probably would have taken it with one of them, but since they didn’t, I wanted to take advantage of Kittle sliding this far down. His ADP has been around the 70-80 mark, so drafting him at 115 made sense despite already having McBride.

11.06: Jerry Jeudy (WR – CLE)

There was no value in any of the RBs still left on the board, so we went with Jerry Jeudy, who is looking for a fresh start after being traded to Cleveland. Jeudy should be the Browns’ #2 WR and he will likely benefit from having a veteran like Amari Cooper on the other side.

12.07: Tyler Allgeier (RB – ATL)

Of the RBs left on the board, I had my choice of AJ Dillon, Ty Chandler, MarShawn Lloyd, and Tyler Allgeier. All are set to be backups on their team’s depth chart, so my thought process was to lock up Bijan’s handcuff, so if he misses a long period of time, I am not totally screwed by losing my 1st round pick.

13.06: Jahan Dotson (WR – WAS)

At this point in the draft, you are trying to find a player with a higher upside who will offer some value to stash on your bench. Jahan Dotson will be the #2 WR in Washington and will no longer have to face competition with Curtis Samuel leaving for Buffalo.

14.07: Steelers D/ST

I typically save the last two rounds for a Kicker and D/ST in all my redraft leagues. Most of the time, I stream a D/ST from week to week based on matchups unless I am lucky enough to land one of the top-tier defenses like the Jets, Cowboys, or 49ers.

If I am not able to land those three, I look for a defense with a top-notch DL and matchups against below-average quarterbacks. The Steelers have a tough defense, a sack upside with Watt and Highsmith, and an excellent secondary led by Minkah Fitzpatrick.

15.06: Jake Elliot (K – PHI)

When taking a kicker, I look for someone on a high-powered offense who will have plenty of opportunities to score or get in the red zone. Grabbing a kicker where they play home games in a dome is also a plus.
