Fantasy Football Draft Rankings, Tiers & Notes

Before we get to the fantasy football draft rankings and player notes below, here is how I’m breaking down my tiers.

Fantasy Football Draft Rankings: Tiers

Tier 1: Let’s keep this simple. These are my top 10 players that should be locked into the first round of every fantasy football draft. One thing to note here is that Christian McCaffrey is not my 1.01 or my RB1 overall. I prefer Bijan Robinson this year as my top running back, but I have no issue with anyone going with McCaffrey if they draw the first pick in a draft. I have concerns regarding the 417 touches (including the playoffs) that he shouldered last year as he enters his age-28 season.

Tier 2: This tier rounds out my top 10 running backs for the season while also including wide receivers that possess WR1 upside if everything clicks in 2024. The end of this tier is especially interesting, with Joe Mixon, Derrick Henry, and De’Von Achane sneaking in. Any of these backs could finish as top-five backs this year, and I wouldn’t be shocked.

Tier 3: The elite, aka top-five tight end tier with plenty of volume-based WR2s that could flirt with WR1 production if all the dominoes fall correctly into place.

Tier 4: This tier is dominated by the elite quarterbacks (aka the top six) and the last two “elite tier” tight ends (Kyle Pitts and George Kittle). I also snuck in some running backs that toe the line between RB1 and RB2 status, and three wide receivers who have flashed previously WR1 upside or, in the case of Zay Flowers, could actualize it in 2024.

Tier 5: This grouping of players consists of WR2/3s with previous top-15 fantasy wide receiver seasons on their resumes. Some of them could revisit this type of production in 2024. Also included in this tier are volume-based RB2s and the beginning of my tier 2 quarterbacks. I could have honestly put the rest of my tier 2 quarterbacks in this tier and not batted an eye, but I don’t want to push them that high at the moment vs. consensus ADP or ECR.

Tier 6: This collection of talented names includes strong veteran producers who could easily outperform their ADPs, but because of the ambiguity of their passing depth chart or backfield, they find themselves pushed down into this tier. Also included here are a sprinkling of rookie and second-year receivers with massive upside. Jayden Daniels and Kyler Murray’s rushing prowess also concludes my tier 2 quarterbacks here.

Tier 7: Committee backs. This tier features a group of rushers that all face competition for touches on their depth chart, but any of these backs could easily lead their respective offenses in running back opportunities. The top two backs for Tennessee, Denver, and Pittsburgh find themselves here. Each of these situations is up in the air with talented 1A/1B combos.

Tier 8: This tier concludes my top 12 quarterbacks for this fantasy season while also featuring WR3/4 types who could easily crush this year as weekly WR2s if they can wrestle their way near the top of their offensive target ladders. Also in this group is Evan Engram. Yes, I could have made a case for him to be in Tier 4 with Pitts and Kittle, but once we look at his splits with Christian Kirk on and off the field last year, it’s very apparent that he is a step down from that elite tier.

Tier 9: Handcuffs, RB3s with some stand-alone upside, and backs like Jerome Ford and Rico Dowdle, who could lead their backfields in touches this year. This tier is all upside all the time tier for backs.

Tier 10: Quarterbacks and tight ends who could all easily finish inside the top 12 at their respective positions this season. If you miss out on quarterback or tight end in the earlier rounds, I would recommend shopping in this bargain bin.

Tier 11: WR4/5s dominate this tier. Plenty of different player archetypes to sift through here with spike week potential that could win the week for you from the WR3 or flex spot of your lineup.

Tier 12: This bucket of players includes plenty of handcuffs, veteran backs with goal-line upside, stationary pocket passers who could flirt with QB1 production, and the last TE1 in my ranks. Some could be surprised that David Njoku is buried this deep in my rankings, but once you discover how bad his production was with Deshaun Watson in my writeup, it will make sense why I have him behind ADP/ECR.

Tier 13: This final tier rounds out the 150 with a buffet of wide receivers with WR3/4 upside, the back-end handcuff tier, and TE2s who could finish as TE1s if they spike enough touchdowns.
