The No. 1 riser in the RB ADP is Chiefs second-year RB, Deneric Prince. He has been consistently running ahead of Clyde Edwards-Helaire as the Chiefs RB2. Prince was a 2023 UDFA but spent the entire year on the Chiefs’ practice squad last season. Prince is a nearly 6-foot RB at 216 pounds with 4.41 wheels. Bellcow build. He has great upside should he inherit the RB job in case of an Isiah Pacheco injury.
Joe Mixon continues to miss training camp repetitions due to a hamstring injury. Not great. As a result of his missed time, Dameon Pierce and rookie Jahwar Jordan have gotten more repetitions with the first team. Pierce was a bad scheme fit in this offense, but it seems the coaching staff is giving him an extended look to see if he’s a better fit in Year 2. Meanwhile, Jordan (a sixth-round pick out of Louisville) was drafted by Houston specifically because he was an ideal running back fit in Bobby Slowik’s offense. Houston also signed Cam Akers. Both Jordan and Akers played in the Hall of Fame game, along with J.J. Taylor and Dare Ogunbowale. Jordan was the last to get any touches starting in the second half. Not super surprising for Jordan to see playing time as a Day 3 rookie, and he likely would have gotten more reps had the game not been canceled due to weather.
Rookie RB Audric Estime returned to glowing reviews at Broncos’ training camp after missing most of the offseason due to a knee scope procedure. Yet another RB that Denver head coach Sean Payton continues to sing praise for.
Kenneth Gainwell and Will Shipley have both gotten 1st-team reps in Saqoun Barkley’s absence (non-injury related).
Jamaal Williams‘ stock has increased based on the injury to Kendre Miller. Miller hurt his hamstring early in the Saints’ first training camp practice. And Saints head coach, Dennis Allen, is not pleased about his second-year RB’s lack of availability.
J.K. Dobbins is seemingly the Chargers’ “healthiest RB,” given that the team is easing Gus Edwards back after he underwent an offseason surgery. Edwards just started participating in team drills. Dobbins told reporters he believes he has a special season incoming. He is viewed as one of the starters/leaders in the RB room.
“If I get the volume, I do think I’ll be one of the best in the league.”
Rookie Kimani Vidal also remains buried on the depth chart, running behind the likes of Jaret Patterson.
Dylan Laube has been praised by the Raiders coaching staff, with head coach Antonio Pierce calling the rookie RB ‘special.’ The former UNH standout enters the NFL with a decorated pass-catching background and seems like he has a pathway to overtaking Ameer Abdullah as the clear-cut back on third downs, playing in conjunction with Zamir White. If Laube continues to push for playing time, we could see this backfield morph more into an RBBC instead of White dominating all the touches as he did toward the tail end of the 2023 season.
Chase Brown has been taking snaps with the 1st-team over free agency signing Zack Moss. I’ve been bullish on Brown’s upside as a pass-catcher and RB1 in this Bengals backfield. Just a matter of how Brown shakes out in his Year 2 pass protection that might seal his fate.
Tyler Allegier will likely be on a meteoric rise after Zac Robinson told reporters he would have a “big role” in the offense. I broke it down further in this tweet. TLDR version, I still believe Bijan Robinson is the RB1 in the backfield, but Allegier will have his chances when his role as a “bruising closer” back is needed.
I went back and listened to the full presser with Zac Robinson on Allegier
the gist of it✍????
He [Tyler] is going to have a "great" role in this offense. He wants to get on the field in any way.
Has a connection with Falcons RB coach, Michael Pitre, who has been with the team… https://t.co/wmoYXzbCBO
— Andrew Erickson™ (@AndrewErickson_) July 30, 2024
Ezekiel Elliott is expected to be the lead back in Dallas, but it’s clear that the team is open to other more ‘explosive’ RBs to push the long-time Cowboys rusher for touches. Stephen Jones talked up Royce Freeman, but he also mentioned him in a special teams context. Rico Dowdle reportedly looked the best when the Cowboys first put the pads on in a recent practice. Needless to say, this backfield still has a lot of sorting out needed through August. But if Zeke has the grip on the high-value touches, the other RBs being “better” won’t move the needle for fantasy football purposes.
A.J. Dillon is in the “best shape of his life.” So naturally, his ADP is going up. In more Packers backfield news, Josh Jacobs is dealing with a groin injury.
The Leap’s (covers the Packers) Jason Hirschhorn said on a recent Rotoworld Football Show that, “Jacobs was brought in to be the clear lead back.” He also said that health permitting, Dillon will probably spend the whole year as the No. 2 running back. He did cite Dillon’s low rookie-year usage in comparison to MarShawn Lloyd, which contradicts past comments Matt LaFleur made regarding that Lloyd would be more involved as a rookie than Dillon was. Either way, it seems to me that Lloyd hardly has a vice grip on the No. 2 job and might need an injury to become a major difference-maker for fantasy purposes.
Colts running back Trey Sermon has a vice grip on the RB2 job behind Jonathan Taylor.

Ty Johnson got hurt, and he looks to be losing the RB2 job to Ray Davis. Johnson was reported to have just a ‘slight edge‘ given his veteran status, but missed time suggests Davis can pick up the slack. Davis’ best bet for fantasy value would be to emerge as a goal-line back alongside Josh Allen in Buffalo. However, recent quotes from Bills OC Joe Brady suggest the team is also comfortable with James Cook taking the rock from inside the 1-yard line. Cook is the unquestioned No. 1 RB in this backfield.
Panthers rookie RB Jonathon Brooks is on the PUP (technically NFI because it’s a college injury) with no timetable set for his return. Hence the fall in his ADP.
The major faller is D’Onta Foreman, although it comes on the heel of news of the Cleveland Browns’ camp that Nick Chubb won’t be ready to start the season, and Foreman is likely to fill in the goal-line role (akin to Kareem Hunt in 2023) per ESPN’s Dan Graziano. If you need RB production early on (especially in half-PPR), Foreman looks like a logical candidate for spiked week potential on his fourth team in as many seasons.
However, Foreman did suffer an injury on Thursday, August 1, that forced him to be transported to a local hospital via helicopter. Pierre Strong Jr. is next up on the depth chart with Nyheim Hines also on the NFI list.
#Browns RB D'Onta Foreman is dealing with what is being described as a “upper back/lower neck” injury and he was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons, per multiple sources. The good news: I’m told he’s talking and laughing and has movement in all extremities. ???????? pic.twitter.com/AHWJ6jhK2t

Jalen Tolbert has been the de-facto No. 2 WR at Cowboys training camp while CeeDee Lamb holds out. Per the Athletic, he remains the favorite to be the No. 3 WR in Big D this season.
Jordan Whittington. The Rams rookie WR is pushing for the No. 3 role in the offense. He is already getting first-team reps. Cooper Kupp said “he’s been so impressive,” calling him a “pretty special dude.” Jordan Rodrigue of the Athletic mentioned the rookie WR as a sleeper. He can play multiple roles in the offense.
Nobody’s hype train has been as LOUD as Andrei Iosivas out of Bengals camp. He is pushing his way as the No. 3 WR on the offense, fending off 2024-rookie 3rd-rounder, Jermaine Burton. The second-year WR from Purdue is getting more reps and playing well, while Ja’Marr Chase “holds in” due to a contract dispute. Burton also left practice Thursday with an ankle injury. Nothing major, but doesn’t help his cause for WR3.
Rashee Rice‘s ADP continues to climb. A suspension seems less likely every passing day. Get in while the value is still good.
Despite a small injury scare earlier this week, Rashod Bateman continues to impress. A great late-round WR target on a good offense.

Via the Coachspeakindex (great follow on X), the Jalen McMillan drum beat has been pounding all off-season. During my pre-draft analysis, I cited that either McMillan or Ja’Lynn Polk would be vastly underrated given their college counting stats didn’t fully illustrate their talent levels given the elite WR competition at Washington. Todd Bowles has also said that Chris Godwin continues to “ball out” at training camp. Ergo, water is wet.
#Bucs HC Todd Bowles is one of the most blunt coaches in the NFL
it’s a very big deal that he keeps talking up Jalen McMillan pic.twitter.com/UY8p6BSzGX

Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks is the human hype piece, as he is rotating in with the other top 3 WRs on the Packers depth chart. If any WR room fits the mantra “better in the best ball format,” it’s Green Bay. If Jordan Love lives up to his new contract (highest paid in NFL history) we could see ALL these Packers return on their investment. The prices are based on the ambiguity of the depth chart and target pecking order, not on the offense as a whole. Typically, those are great bets to make, especially with high-upside guys like Wicks.

The Adonai Mitchell fall may continue to happen. The latest news out of Colts training camp is that he hasn’t been the same guy he was during the spring, and he has yet to usurp Alece Pierce as the WR3. Mitchell’s college career was filled with high highs and low lows, so his current rocky status early in August does not come as super surprising.
I would expect a bounceback for Josh Reynolds, given his fit in Sean Payton’s offense as a bigger possession WR. My co-host on the FantasyPros best ball show, Tom Strachan, has his bags full with Reynolds as a sharp late-round selection.
Jordan Addison will continue to fall in lieu of a potential suspension due to a DUI incident. The most likely outcome is he serves a three-game suspension early on during the season, given what we have seen in recent DUI suspensions regarding NFL players.
Saints HC Dennis Allen (7-1 odds to be first HC fired in 2024) spoke openly about how A.T. Perry has yet to impress him. Woof.
Rondale Moore is operating as the WR4 on the Falcons’ offense behind Ray-Ray McCloud.
Quentin Johnston continues to be plagued by drops at Chargers camp and sits as the current WR4 on the Chargers WR depth chart.
Patriots rookie WR, Javon Baker is down. But I don’t agree. The rookie WRs on the Pats (both Polk and Baker) have been as advertised. Polk has been reliable, and Baker has offered big-play ability. That might make the latter more volatile, but the Patriots can’t hold back from unleashing a player who can help them move the ball downfield quickly.
DeAndre Hopkins is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a knee injury. Hopkins just turned 32 years old and really isn’t much of a practice player. I presume he will be ready for the start of the season, but suffering a knee injury this early in the year doesn’t bode well for his long-term availability through a 17-game season. Hopkins doesn’t need to practice to play, but given the context of a brand new offense, this is hardly something fantasy managers should just brush off. Calvin Ridley will undoubtedly rise as a result of this news, with his path to WR1 status clear as day sans Hopkins over the next month-plus. Tyler Boyd could be a key target in the offense early on, given his familiarity with Brian Callahan’s offense from their time spent in Cincy together. Anticipate his ADP to rise.
Still the Hopkins injury will make Will Levis‘ ADP fall. Levis has a brutal schedule to start the year and losing Hopkins will make life that much tougher on the young QB looking to prove himself in Year 2.

Rookie tight end Jared Wiley is a favorite by Footballguys and Denver Broncos beat reporter Cecil Lammey. The market has taken notice of a talented young TE who could see a bigger role in the Chiefs’ offense in case of a Travis Kelce injury.
Josh Whyle has drawn some buzz out of the Titans’ camp. I’m not sure this makes him draftable, but it puts Chig Okonkwo‘s role and ADP in serious jeopardy in a new offense. Whyle has consistently drawn praise from Jim Wyatt and could offer more of a traditional TE skillset akin to what Brian Callahan used in Cincinnati.
While Levis impressed, some other things from Titans camp that caught my eye:
—-Both running backs will play a lot and maybe even together. They are both “air” backs so it would work.
—-Second-year TE Josh Whyle is a player to watch. He will be a factor in the offense.— Pete Prisco (@PriscoCBS) July 26, 2024
You can’t read any report by the Athletic’s Rams reporter, Jordan Rodrigue, without getting breadcrumbs about the tight ends being more used than last season. She has noted that TEs will have a “bigger role” in the offense. Red-zone usage etc. More 12 personnel in the offense overall. A consistent drum beat for the TEs in LA.
The Rams spent big money on Colby Parkinson in free agency, who they saw twice a year in matchups versus the Seahawks. Davis Allen flashed as a rookie. Both guys are great late-round TE dart throws with Tyler Higbee on the PUP list.
A month after foot surgery, Saints Juwan Johnson has already been seen back on the practice field. He’s off to the side, but his quick return aligns with the initial diagnosis that he would return for the start of the season. A great late-round TE who likely won’t see his ADP recover from the June injury. He’s already running, so the wheels are up for a Week 1 comeback.

I would expect Robert Tonyan to continue to fall after he left practice with back spasms. If healthy, he would be my best as the opening-day TE1 (from a pass-catching perspective).
Conversely, Tucker Kraft will be returning to the practice field very soon. The Packers are preaching caution (as they tend to do with injuries), but Kraft continues to push to get back on the field at every waking moment. Dog mentality. Watch out, Luke Musgrave (who has had some drops at Packers camp).
LaFleur says Tucker Kraft is close to returning from a torn pec suffered this offseason. Says Kraft asks to practice every day.

Russell Wilson suffered a calf injury before the start of the Steelers’ training camp, which has thrust Justin Fields into the starting QB1 role. The coaching staff in Pittsburgh has remained ‘firm’ that Wilson is in ‘the pole position’ to be QB1, but the time he misses doesn’t bode well for him. Especially as Fields continues to build rapport with his teammates and the 1st-team offense. I’m firmly in the camp that Fields is out the best late-round best-ball QB selections you can make since 84 different QBs took snaps last season. Wilson is a 35-year-old QB who hasn’t finished a season since 2020. Given Fields’ weekly upside (top-5 based on rushing) he possesses a ceiling completely unmatched by all players drafted in his similar range.
We are also getting a constant drum beat that the Vikings will not rush J.J. McCarthy until the situation is perfect for him. Kevin O’Connell said he won’t put McCarthy in until the situation is just right. Ie. probably until tight end T.J. Hockenson returns to the offense at the earliest and Addison is back from suspension. Expect a heavy dose of Sam Darnold as QB1 in this Vikings offense for half if not more of the 2024 season.
Aidan O’Connell: He has a shot to start the season. Neither he nor Gardnert Minshew have blown the doors off in the QB competition, but AOC’s unknown upside, youth and incumbent status suggest he would be the default winner in a draw between the two passers.

There were rumors early this offseason that Sam Howell was a threat to Geno Smith‘s job as QB1.
Smith has looked “great” at Seahawks camp, and the local buzz suggests there’s no real QB controversy going on in Seattle. Keep calm and draft more Geno. Well, at least that was the move before Smith popped up with a hip/knee injury that requires him to undergo imaging. Not great. Keep Howell on those Superflex dynasty rosters.
C.J. Stroud continues to fall as the market recalibrates its position on a non-mobile QB. It makes Stroud more draftable given the suppressed price into the 6th-7th round.
