Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitchers: Rankings & Waiver Pickups (Week 20)

Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitchers: Rankings & Waiver Pickups (Week 20)

You should be grinding the two-start pitchers to give you an advantage over your competition every week.

Each week, I will give you a breakdown of the two-start options for your fantasy leagues broken up into the following tiers:

  • Must Start: Pitchers you have to start because of their talent/matchups.
  • Should Start: Pitchers rostered in most formats and who should probably be in your lineup.
  • Here We Go: Pitchers you are probably starting in most formats but who come with some level of risk.
  • Feeling Lucky: Pitchers available in less than 25% of leagues that are risky but viable in deeper formats.
  • Desperate Measures: Pitchers you shouldn’t use unless you have no choice.

These projected two-start pitchers are subject to change and will throughout the season.

Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitchers: Week 20

Must Start

Should Start

Pablo Lopez (SP – MIN) vs. KC, at TEX

I know Pablo Lopez has been up and down this season, but the underlying numbers say he has pitched pretty well and been unlucky. These are two tougher matchups, but I don’t think there are a lot of scenarios in which you are benching him.

Paul Blackburn (SP – NYM) vs. OAK, vs. MIA

Since being traded to the Mets, Paul Blackburn has pitched very well, throwing back-to-back six-inning starts while allowing just one earned run and striking out six in each game. He has a fantastic set of matchups versus two of the worst teams in baseball in a good park.

Colin Rea (SP – MIL) vs. LAD, vs. CLE

I don’t know how Colin Rea continues to do it, but he continues to make it work. He has a 3.38 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP with 99 strikeouts in 122.1 innings. The Dodgers are a tough matchup, but the Guardians have struggled offensively as of late. There is just no way you can sit him with how he has pitched so far this season.

2024 Fantasy Baseball Probable Pitchers Two Start Pitchers

Here We Go

Ben Lively (SP, RP – CLE) vs. CHC, at MIL

Ben Lively has outpitched a lot of his underlying skills this season, but he has struggled more as of late. There is more risk here, especially with a good contact-hitting team like the Brewers on the docket. He does start the week versus the disappointing Cubs, so there is some upside to going along with the risk.

Charlie Morton (SP – ATL) at SF, at LAA

Charlie Morton has had a more bumpy time as of late, but while the aging vet is not the pitcher he was, he has become a smarter pitcher and made up for the diminishing stuff with good sequencing and mixing. He has risk, but these are really good matchups against poor offenses.

Brayan Bello (SP – BOS) vs. TEX, at BAL

Brayan Bello has pitched much better as of late and looked more like the guy the Red Sox thought they would get this year when they inked him to a long-term deal. That being said, these are two tough matchups, so there is a fair amount of risk.

Feeling Lucky

Trevor Rogers (SP – BAL) vs. WAS, vs. BOS

I am a big Trevor Rogers fan and I love the situation he is in with the Orioles, but he is very inconsistent. He has a matchup versus a good Red Sox lineup and a bad Nationals one, so this is a risky two-step for a guy who can be hard to trust.

Kutter Crawford (SP, RP – BOS) vs. TEX, at BAL

Kutter Crawford has struggled as of late, but I think the core skills are still intact. That being said, he has two tough matchups here, so there is a risk to using him.

Taijuan Walker (SP – PHI) vs. MIA, vs. WAS

Taijuan Walker is coming off the injured list (IL) and typically I avoid pitchers that are freshly activated, but these are two really good matchups and he has the Phillies offense behind him.

Joe Musgrove (SP – SD) vs. PIT, at COL

Just like Walker, Joe Musgrove is returning from a long IL stint. These types of debuts can be risky because we just don’t know how deep into a game he might go or if the stuff is ready for Major League hitting, but Musgrove is a top-25 pitcher when healthy, so that makes him worth the risk here.
