Fantasy Baseball Pitcher Rankings: Week 20 (2024)

Welcome to the FantasyPros Week 20 starting pitcher rankings for 2024. On Fridays, we view the upcoming week and rank starting pitchers based on their talent and the team they play against. These rankings are for Monday, August 12 through Sunday, August 18.

These rankings use expert consensus rankings (ECR) as a starting point. Matchup information can be found in the helpful Pitcher Planner’s resource for probable pitchers.

As usual, remember that some starts are projected over a week in advance. Dates can change due to rain, injuries or anything else. Two-start weeks often end up as one-start weeks.

Be sure to check the FantasyPros Pitcher Planner for the most up-to-date information.

Top 50 Starting Pitcher Rankings: Week 20

Best Matchups

  • Tarik Skubal may be the first Tiger to win the Cy Young Award since Max Scherzer in 2013. He’s an ace. Start him every week without question. Fantasy managers should be excited because Skubal is set to start twice this week at home against the Mariners and Yankees.
  • Tyler Glasnow struggled around the All-Star break with injuries and performance. He looked fatigued. Glasnow appears rejuvenated amid back-to-back quality starts with over eight strikeouts. The Dodger returns to the top of these rankings for his game in St. Louis.
  • Carlos Rodon regained the trust of fantasy managers in a three-game stretch of solid starts. The Yankee’s recovery followed a five-consecutive loss streak. Between mid-June and mid-July, Rodon was one of the worst (if not the worst) pitchers in the majors. As long as Rodon keeps it up, he will be a great option against the ice-cold White Sox who recently lost 21 games in a row.

Unfavorable Matchups

  • Garrett Crochet is sliding. He has been mentioned in these rankings time and time again because of fatigue from his unprecedented innings count. Crochet has not thrown past the fourth inning since June — five starts ago. The White Sox front office contemplated trading away Crochet at the trade deadline but could not find a match. As a result, Crochet is being strictly limited. Please proceed with caution as he faces Houston. It is time to consider dropping Crochet.
  • Taj Bradley is a great pitcher with a tough schedule. The youngster faces the Astros and the Diamondbacks this week. Both teams have respectable records and oppose Bradley while he is on a brief cold streak, allowing nine runs over his last 9.2 innings. It would be wise to bench the Rays pitcher against Houston and only start him against Arizona if he does well early in the week.
  • Clayton Kershaw looks rusty. The Dodgers let Kershaw down when he faced Philadelphia, giving him the loss after allowing only one run over 4.2 innings. Start Kershaw in Milwaukee and St. Louis, just remember that it will take time for him to meet lofty expectations.
