Top 6 Fantasy Baseball FAAB Waiver Wire Pickups: High-Stakes Leagues (Week 23)

The best players in the world play on NFBC and the most popular high-stakes contest is the NFBC Main Event, which has a $1,750 buy-in with a $7,000 league prize and a $200,000 overall prize. Thankfully, for everyone, NFBC allows us to see what each team is doing with their FAAB pickups on Sunday night.

Each week, I look at the most popular fantasy baseball waiver wire and FAAB pickups in the NFBC Main Event to see who the best players in the world are picking up and whether we should add them.

Fantasy Baseball FAAB Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 23

Jack Leiter  (SP – TEX)

Jack Leiter is expected to be called up on Wednesday for a pretty nice matchup versus the White Sox in Chicago, which is why he was picked up in 48 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $49 and a minimum bid of $1. Leiter struggled in his first go around in the Majors. He has thrown 51.2 innings with a 3.83 ERA and 73 strikeouts since being sent back to AAA. There is a risk to his control as he still can struggle with walks, but if he can attack the zone, he could be a nice pickup.

Jasson Dominguez (OF – NYY)

Jasson Dominguez was picked up in 44 leagues with a max bid of $66 and a minimum bid of $1. Dominguez is expected to get called up as rosters expand for September. But how much will he play? He could replace Alex Verdugo, but he will need to hit to keep a regular role.

Porter Hodge (SP, RP – CHC) & Jorge Lopez (RP – CHC)

The Cubs waived Hector Neris last week as he approached a benchmark for an option in his contract. This left the Cubs without a closer. Both Porter Hodge and Jorge Lopez are in line to get opportunities to close. Hodge was picked up in 39 leagues with a max bid of $40 and Lopez was picked up in 37 leagues with a max bid of $69. Each has recorded a save over the last week, so this may be a committee.

Connor Norby (2B, 3B, OF – MIA)

Connor Norby was picked up in 36 leagues with a max bid of $51 and a minimum bid of $1. Norby has been on fire since being recalled by the Marlins, hitting .345/.400/.792 with two home runs and a stolen base in 25 plate appearances. He has even moved up in the lineup to lead off. There isn’t much firepower around him, but if he is leading off, there is some value here.

Miguel Amaya (C – CHC)

With both Willson Contreras and Joey Bart getting hurt over the weekend, Miguel Amaya was a popular pickup, getting added in 33 leagues with a max bid of $33 and a minimum bid of $1. Amaya has been hot in the second half, hitting .311/.346/.527 with four home runs in 80 plate appearances. He has finally become the top catcher in Chicago. While he won’t stay this hot, he is a former top prospect coming into his own.
