PGA DFS Advice & Picks: Scottish Open (2024)

It was nearly a gargantuan week for this column, but Sunday was a massive letdown. We were underweight on runaway champion Davis Thompson. Michael Thorbjornsen and Luke Clanton still did their best to carry this wagon to victory, but Aaron Rai ran us into the mud. It was another profitable week, but what could have been is truly haunting.

The Scottish Open is a nice prelude to the Open Championship, with a unique twist added for this season. The new agreement between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour has made this tournament a signature attraction. Seventy-five top golfers from each tour comprise the field at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. The names who have played stateside in recent years are more familiar to the casual golf fan and DFS player, and thus a bit more chalky. Those who have made their living across the pond are every bit as good, but their lack of street cred creates a nice leverage point when building mass multi-entry (MME) tournament lineups. You can bet your britches I’ve been studying up on these DP World Tour guys all season in preparation for these next two events.

PGA DFS & Picks: Genesis Scottish Open (2024)

The Renaissance Club is a very easy golf course by Tour standards. The par-70 is below average at only 7,200 yards, leaving it defenseless against modern-era bombers…except it’s in Scotland. Perhaps no profession carries more shaky job security than a Scottish meteorologist. North Berwick sits along the Fith of Forth and the North Sea. The weather report can change in a matter of minutes. The winning score at the Scottish Open can range wildly, in turn. I’m looking to build around the best players from tee to green, with an emphasis on short games. The next wave of players in the DFS pool will be those who rate out better in more difficult scoring conditions. As in, if the weather gets crazy I have a special forces unit (I’m picturing them in kilts playing bagpipes). With a plate of haggis and a nice dram of whisky, let’s dig in.
