Monday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Chris Sale (ATL) at ARI
Chris Sale is the best pitcher on tonight's pitching-poor slate by a wide margin. According to FanGraphs, in his previous five starts spanning 32.0 innings, Sale has had a 1.97 ERA, 2.25 xFIP, 2.41 SIERA, 0.84 WHIP, 7.6 BB%, 37.8 K%, 32.9 CSW%, 99 Stuff+, 103 Location+ and 101 Pitching+. The veteran lefty has spun four quality starts in his past five games, striking out at least seven batters in all five games and allowing precisely one run in each of his last three starts.
Sale doesn't have an ideal matchup. The Diamondbacks are tied for sixth in wRC+ (117) with a 20.4 K% versus lefties and tied for 11th in wRC+ (108) with a 19.0 K% at home. Nevertheless, his betting info is stellar. The Braves are -210, and the game's total is 8.5 runs.
Chris Paddack (MIN) at CWS
Picking an SP2 on DK is a chore tonight. Everyone other than Sale has significant blemishes. Chris Paddack is making his first start after a stint on the Injured List (IL). In addition, he has a 5.29 ERA, 4.71 xERA and 4.06 SIERA in 15 starts this year, totaling 78.1 innings. Still, his SIERA was adequate, and Paddack's 5.2 BB% and 20.3 K% are decent.
Paddack also has a dreamy matchup. The White Sox are 30th in wRC+ (77) with a 23.6 K% versus righties and 30th in wRC+ (76) with a 22.4 K% at home this year. Chicago also isn't working out of their funk, ranking 26th in wRC+ (86) with a 24.2 K% in the previous 14 days. As a result, Paddack's the most palatable matchup and salary-driven SP2 at DK.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
The Guardians have an above-average offense by every applicable split for tonight's game. Cleveland is tied for 11th in wRC+ (104) versus righties and 10th in wRC+ (103) on the road. They were also tied for seventh in wRC+ (116) in the previous 14 days.
The Guardians have a Charmin-soft matchup tonight. Keider Montero has had a 6.60 ERA, 5.55 xERA and 3.91 SIERA in three big-league appearances (two starts) in his rookie season. He also had a 4.93 ERA in Double-A and Triple-A in 2023 and a 5.03 ERA in 13 starts in Triple-A this season. Finally, the Tigers also have a below-average bullpen, enhancing Cleveland's upside.
