Today’s MLB DFS & Player Props Picks
Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Bailey Ober (MIN) at CWS
Bailey Ober is cruising into a cushy matchup tonight. According to FanGraphs, in his previous five starts spanning 32.0 innings, Ober has had a 2.53 ERA, 2.74 xFIP, 2.77 SIERA, 1.03 WHIP, 5.6 BB%, 32.3 K%, 33.2 CSW%, 94 Stuff+, 104 Location+ and 103 Pitching+. Ober has twirled four consecutive quality starts, fanning at least eight batters in each.
He should stay hot in a dreamy matchup. The White Sox are 30th in wRC+ (77) with a 23.6 K% versus righties and 30th in wRC+ (76) with a 22.4 K% at home. Chicago was also 22nd in wRC+ (93) with a 24.2 K% in the previous 14 days. Thus, the Twins are -170, and the game's total is 8.5 runs.
Nick Lodolo (CIN) vs. COL
Nick Lodolo is making his return from a short stint on the Injured List (IL). In 12 starts spanning 70.0 innings this year, the lefty has a sparkling 2.96 ERA, 3.30 xERA, 3.55 SIERA, 1.07 WHIP, 6.5 BB%, 25.1 K%, 30.0 CSW%, 105 Stuff+, 99 Location+ and 98 Pitching+.
Lodolo has a soft landing spot in his return from the IL. The Rockies are tied for 26th in wRC+ (83) with a 25.2 K% versus lefties and 29th in wRC+ (76) with a 26.4 K% on the road this year. Colorado was also 30th in wRC+ (54) with a 26.4 K% in the previous 14 days. Finally, Cincinnati is -178, and the game's total is 8.5 runs.
Michael Wacha (KC) at STL
Sadly, the Royals are EVEN, but the game's total is 8.0 runs, which isn't too imposing for Michael Wacha. The veteran righty is in excellent form entering tonight's turn. In his last three starts, totaling 16.1 innings, he's had a 1.65 ERA, 3.11 xFIP, 3.47 SIERA, 1.10 WHIP, 8.8 BB%, 27.9 K% and 28.5 CSW%. Furthermore, the 33-year-old righty has allowed precisely one earned run in three straight starts and coughed up two earned runs or fewer in eight straight.
The Cardinals are a mixed matchup. St. Louis is 10th in wRC+ (106) with a 23.4 K% versus righties this year. However, they're 16th in wRC+ (103) with a 21.5 K% at home. Finally, the Red Birds were 19th in wRC+ (102) with a 20.3 K% in the previous 14 days. Unfortunately, the weather forecasts are dicey for all of the suggested pitchers. If their games get sacked, Chris Sale would be the next pitcher up and missed inclusion here because of a more challenging matchup and a less cap-friendly salary. Blake Snell would also be a viable GPP pick in his return from the IL.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
- Road (Angel Stadium)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.5 Runs/TEX -170
The Rangers haven't performed well against righties or on the road this year. Yet, they're in a groove, ranking sixth in wRC+ (117) in the previous 14 days. They also erupted last night and have a chance to do so again tonight. In 23 appearances (two starts) this season, Roansy Contreras has had a 4.04 ERA, 5.17 xERA and 4.51 SIERA.
- Home (Oracle Park)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 7.5 Runs/SF -125
The Giants are average or better offensively by tonight's applicable splits. This year, San Francisco is eighth in wRC+ (116) versus lefties and tied for 13th in wRC+ (107) at home. The Giants were also tied for 15th in wRC+ (106) in the previous 14 days.
Moreover, they're catching Yusei Kikuchi at an ideal time. While he's admittedly been unlucky, Kikuchi's 6.23 ERA and 2.49 HR/9 allowed in his past five starts were eye-catching numbers. The Giants can extend his woes another start.
Core Studs
- In 335 plate appearances this season, Corey Seager has launched 17 homers with a .352 OBP, .212 ISO and 130 wRC+.
- First-time all-star Heliot Ramos has hit 12 homers and stolen two bases with a .370 OBP, .218 ISO and 151 wRC+ in 238 plate appearances this year.
- In 332 plate appearances against lefties since 2022, Matt Chapman has hit 12 homers with a .364 OBP, .213 ISO and 145 wRC+.
Value Plays/Punts
- In 299 plate appearances against southpaws since 2022, Jorge Soler has hit 23 homers with a .362 OBP, .325 ISO and 155 wRC+.
- Since Wyatt Langford has returned from the IL, he's hit four homers and stolen six bases with a .377 OBP, .203 ISO and 147 wRC+ in 146 plate appearances.
- Since 2022, Nathaniel Lowe has had a .362 OBP, .171 ISO and 127 wRC+ against righties.
Tuesday's Top 3 Underdog and PrizePicks Player Props
Check out our best picks on the MLB Underdog Cheat Sheet
Charlie Blackmon: 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs - Lower (Underdog)/Less (PrizePicks
Lodolo is tough on lefties, holding the 59 of them he's faced this season to a .250 batting average, .288 slugging and .291 wOBA. Conversely, Charlie Blackmon is mediocre with the platoon disadvantage on the road. In 157 plate appearances against lefties on the road since 2022, Blackmon has had a .285 batting average with a .109 ISO. His lack of power and Colorado's struggles on the road decrease Blackmon's run-production potential. Thus, we project Blackmon to have 0.8 hits plus runs and RBI.
Rafael Devers: 9.5 Fantasy Points- Higher/More
Rafael Devers is a killer at home against righties. In 548 plate appearances against righties at home since 2022, Devers has hit 27 homers with a .387 OBP, .257 ISO, .398 wOBA and 148 wRC+. Conversely, Joey Estes has allowed a .366 wOBA to 101 lefties this year, and that mark explodes to a .495 wOBA when facing 57 lefties on the road.
Chris Sale: 7.0 Strikeouts - Higher/More
Sale doesn't have an ideal matchup to record strikeouts. The Diamondbacks have the eighth-lowest strikeout rate (20.3 K%) against lefties and the third-lowest strikeout rate (18.7 K%) at home this year. Arizona was also tied for the sixth-lowest strikeout rate (18.3 K%) in the previous 14 days.
Nevertheless, Sale can carve them up. The 35-year-old lefty has struck out at least seven batters in five straight starts and 13 of 16 starts this year, eclipsing that mark in three straight and nine times.
